He passed away June 21, 2005 at the loving home of his son Michael in Layton, Utah. He was 95. Philip was born January 21, 1910 in Kaysville, Utah, son of Harriet and Ernest Blood. He attended Davis High School and in 1930 he served an LDS mission to the Southern States. After his mission he did much geneology and temple work. It was at the Salt Lake temple that he met his eternal sweetheart, Mary Umpleby. They were married in 1936 and have been married for over 69 years. Philip was employed at Hill Air Force Base as a tool and gauge specialist and retired from there in 1973. He loved growing beautiful vegetable gardens which he lovingly shared with all. He enjoyed singing in choirs and quartets. He drew his family together by playing many hours of various games. He was most widely known however as a faithful and active m ember of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions of responsibility including Bishopric counselor, President of the 70's, ward clerk, temple officiator and ever faithful home teacher. His children are Luanna (Jay) Atwood, Patricia (deceased), Kathleen (Hassan, deceased) Manafi, Robert (Dina) Blood, Barbara (Robert) Cook, Derena (Robert) Bell, Laurel (Kent) Cudaback, 31 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Our love for him cannot be expressed in mortal tongue. He has always been a towering yet quiet strength to his children and all those who knew him. He will always be remembered for the love, faithfulness, and royal treatment of his beloved companion. They were known as the sweetheart couple and there love for each other is an example to us all. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 3rd Ward, 350 N. Vine. Bott, Avon Cleone Barrett OGDEN - We sadly announce the passing of AVON CLEONE BARRETT BOTT, a wonderful loving wife for 62 superlative years of joy and happiness, an elect lady, mother of four, grandmother of 17, and great-grandmother of eight. She died at her home in Ogden, Thursday, June 23, 2005. She was born in Ogden, December 16, 1919, to wonderful parents, Alonzo Thomas and Hazel Irene Scott Barrett, who loved her and taught her. Avon was a beautiful person with high ideals. She was highly self-disciplined, loving, kind, patient, considerate and resilient. She appreciated and enjoyed all the beautiful things of life. She manifested great faith in God our eternal Father, and love for our Savior, Jesus Christ. She was blessed with a keen analytical mind. At age 13, she was capable of assisting her father, Doc Barrett, in his chemistry lab. She graduated from Ogden High with Honors and from Weber College with High honors in chemistry and Mathematics. Avon was always humble and willin g to be taught. In her sophomore year at college, she met and dated Paul Bott. Upon his return from his LDS mission, they became engaged. WWII had just started and Paul was taken into the Army immediately. He was selected and graduated from Officers School as a 2nd Lt., then they were married April 21, 1943, in the Salt Lake Temple. Avon traveled with him prior to his overseas duty to the South Pacific. They were separated for 30 months during the war. After the war they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where Paul became manager of a B.F. Goodrich store. They lived there for six plus years, and fell in love with Idaho. They moved back to Ogden and started their own retail business, Bott's Music & Home Furnishings, and continued the business for nearly 30 years. Avon loved flowers of every variety, and they adorned her home inside and out. For several years she provided many flowering Orchids which adorned the interior of the beautiful Ogden Temple. She was faithful in many callings in the L DS Church including Stake R.S. Board, R.S. Spiritual Teacher, Young Women's Presidency, Primary, Teacher of several young women's groups, R.S. visiting teacher, etc. She had deep compassion for the poor, and throughout her lifetime she had charity for the less fortunate. She served as Temple Ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for five years. She served and completed two LDS missions with her husband. She has been a joy to be with; always amiable and tremendously supportive of her husband. She loved the pines and spent many happy hours at their cabin; "Bott's Haven from Slaven." She loved all of her family, and they all loved her. She is survived by her husband Paul, 62 years of superlative marriage, her four wonderful children, Dr. Michael and Liz Bott, Sandy and Sid Cragun, T. Craig and Pam Bott, and Kim and Diane Bott. She is also survived by a brother, Eugene (LaRae) Barrett, and two sisters, Francis (Oliver) Baird and Charlene (Larry) Carver. The family express deep gratitude a nd appreciation to her family doctors, Dr. Jeffrey Call and Dr. Dwight Rigby; the wonderful Hospice for Utah workers: Heather, Joy, Belinda, Lisa and others. Brown, Jessie Behunin "Beloved Wife and Mother" Jessie Jensen Behunin Brown, 80, our beloved wife and mother passed away June 19, 2005 at her home in Woods Cross, Utah. She was born February 14, 1925 in Pleasant View, Utah to Henry L. and Florence Hickenlooper Jensen. On May 22, 1942, Jessie married Merlin B. Behunin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Merlin preceded her in death. Jessie married Tad L. Brown in Brigham City, Utah on June 13, 2004. In the center of her life was her family, friends, her church and her passion for her art. She expressed her life in her creative talent and love for God's gift of nature. Her paintings are in many states. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she held many positions of service. She especially loved children. Jessie is survived by her husband, Tad L. John, Flora Katherine NORTH OGDEN - Flora Kathrine Hall John, 85, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital of Leukemia. She was born April 18, 1920 in Portage, Utah, the daughter of Carroll Adrian and Clara Adelia Knudsen Hall. On November 10, 1950 she married LaVerd John in the Salt Lake Temple. Flora completed her foreordained mission on June 23, 2005. Her life was an example for all to emulate, especially those who suffer physical pain. Her cheerful and loving attitude warmed the hearts of all. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She willingly served as a leader of children, young women and adults. She spent 12 years training the officiators in the Ogden Temple. She loved and lifted everyone. Flora and her husband shared their musical talents at rest homes, senior citizen programs, funerals, anniversaries, church meetings and civic and social meetings. She is survived by her husband, LaVerd and three children, Mikhai l (Janice) John, Ogden; Janene Jensen, Layton; Rose Marie (Robert) Empey, Pleasant View; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother and a grandson. Larsen, Laura Martha Thomas MOUNTAIN GREEN - Laura Martha Thomas Larsen passed away June 23, 2005 at the age of 86. She was born October 12, 1918 in Salt Lake City, a daughter of James Bickmore Thomas and Alta LaVene Monson Thomas. She married Julius Iver Larsen in the Salt Lake Temple on September 30, 1937. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including Relief Society President. She and her husband served an LDS Mission to the Cambodians in Oakland, Ca. She loved the gospel and was a marvelous teacher and speaker; her spirit uplifted all who were taught. She was a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers and a member of the Utah Poet's Society. She enjoyed quilting with her friends in the Mountain Green Quilting Club and was the Morgan County Senior Citizens Event Coordinator for many years. She and her husband Julius were active in the Morgan County Democratic Party and gave many years of service to the community. She loved her family and was a wonderful example of the "glory of motherhood". She is survived by her four children, Steve (Deanna) Larsen of Ogden, Tom (Verna) Larsen of Yuma Arizona, Sue (Clair) Hiatt of Clearfield, and Blair (Karen) of Mountain Green. She was blessed with 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Lillian (Richard) Oliphant of St. George, Gordon (Bonnie) Thomas, a sister-in-law Virginia Thomas of Salt Lake City, and brother-in-law Gary Butler of Aurora Co. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Richard Thomas, two sisters Carol Butler and LaVene Call and brother-in-law, Albert Call. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27 at the Mountain Green Ward Chapel at 1:00 p.m. A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Walker Mortuary in Morgan Utah and also from 11:30 to 12:30 at the church prior to the funeral services. Ted was born in Fresno CA 2/27/28, son of Ted B. and Ruth Corey Lewis. He attended Fresno High and Fresno State College. In 1948, Ted joined the United States Navy and served as an AV Photographer's Mate until 1950. At the outbreak of the Korean War, he was then drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1953-1954 as a Private First Class. In both branches, he received an Honorable Discharge. In 1965, he had a blind date on April Fool's Day. This blind date would prove to be the love of his life. He married Dauna Hobson, the blind date, July 10, 1965. Ted worked 25 years for House of Fabrics. In 1979, he began a career with JM McDonalds House of Fabrics out of Hastings Nebraska until the division was sold. He worked as a Manufacturer's Representative for Dritz-Scovil-Risdon. In 1990 he launched a small business, The Ribbon and Lace Outlet, located on San Fernando Road in Newh all CA. He loved working with fabrics and notions as well as the kind of people who loved to sew and craft. In 1999, he worked for Wal-Mart. Fellow employees soon found him to be a consummate salesperson a wealth of knowledge on retail merchandising. Even though he was busy with his career, he always took time for family, he was an Assistant Scoutmaster, baseball and football coach. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, was a member of the church choir and was active on the board. He survived by Dauna Fay Hobson Lewis, his wife of 40 years, Children Kim L. (Rich) Johnson of Ariel WA, Scott C. (Renata) Lewis of Fresno CA, Cari (Edward) Hager of Fresno CA, Brian T. (Deena) Lewis of Layton UT, Brent T. (Michelle) Lewis of Washougal WA, siblings Robert Lewis, Dee (Sally) Lewis, Doris (David) Bosch; all of Fresno CA. He was born January 30, 1967 in Ogden, Utah, to Thomas Wayne Olesen and Margaret B. Graves. Brett loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing for family and friends. Stocks, Artie J. LAYTON - Artie J. Stocks, 82, passed away at his home on Friday, June 24, 2005. He was born September 13, 1923 in Bridgeland, Utah, the son of Sanford W. Stocks and Mary Birch Stocks. Artie married Doris Hartle on December 22, 1945 in Duchesne, Utah. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on September 13, 1940. He served in World War II, where he was taken prisoner in the Battle of Wake Island. He was held as a prisoner of war for 44 months. Artie also served in the Korean Conflict as well as the Vietnam War. Because of his POW experience and the Battle of Wake Island he was the subject of several articles and he is mentioned in several books. Following his retirement from the Marine Corps, Artie got his high school diploma thru Davis High School and a degree in Accounting thru Stevens-Henager College. He was then employed as a Warehouse (Supply) Supervisor for 16 years at Hill Air Force Base. He was a life-time member of the VFW, Post 8307 and the American Legion, Post 87. Artie was an avid gardener and bowler (Tuesday nights at HAFB) and he loved camping and the great outdoors. One of his favorite sayings was that he had never met a stranger. He was liked by all who met him. He kept his humor thru the end and we will all miss that humor as well as his line of B.S. He was a true family man who was surrounded by people who loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, Sanford W. Stocks, mother, Mary Birch Stocks, and his brother, Sanford F. Stocks. He is survived by his wife, Doris, two sons, Lynn (Bertha) Stocks, Tim (Cheryl) Stocks, daughter, Cheryl (Bill) Meehan, sister, Rachel (Don) Ames, sister-in-law, Ursula Stocks, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Taylor, Rachel Alione SOUTH OGDEN - On June 24, 2005, Rachel Alione Taylor passed away of natural causes in the arms of her loved ones. She was born June 13, 1928 in Laurel, Mississippi to Hiram Daniel and Annie Bell Sherman. She was a wonderful homemaker, loved her garden and had wonderful garden skills, she was also an avid outdoors sportswoman. She is survived by her husband and love of her life of 50 years, Lawrence E. Taylor. Daughters, Annie Lee (Stephen) Allendorf, Florida; Brenda (Calvin) Kraus, Ogden; Vera Taylor, Idaho; Sue (Arland) Pearce, Virginia; and son Michael E. (Terri) Taylor, Nevada. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She has numerous nieces and nephews in Mississippi and Louisiana. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005 at 3:00 pm at Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
