She had been fighting cancer for some time, and never lost hope that she would some day beat it and we never lost hope that she would too. Donna, 75, passed away Monday, February 28, 2005. She was born June 16, 1929, in Ogden, Utah to Lewis W. and Beatrice Batchelor Street. She was a lifelong resident of Ogden. Donna enjoyed being able to travel with her daughter Melanie and with her sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Tom Bueche. Whether in Alaska, Hawaii or England adventure was their motto. The most important thing to her was her family. She played the Hawaiian guitar and was a member of the USO Band during WII. Her many hobbies included going to Wendover with her sister, reading, and oil painting. Donna is survived by her children, Michael (Patty Timbimboo) Madsen of Plymouth, UT; Rich Murdoch, Reno, NV; Scott Murdoch, So. Ogde n, Kerry Jacobson, Riverdale, Melanie (Tom French) Lauger, Seattle, WA; three grandchildren Ben Murdoch, Santa Cruz, CA; Garrett (Holly) Timbimboo, Brigham City, UT; Jenn Madsen, Carson City, NV; two great-grandchildren, Genavieve Hoaglund, Carson City, NV; Brooklyn Timbimboo, Brigham City ,and many nieces and one nephew. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marlene Bueche. Faulkner, Jean OGDEN - Jean Day Faulkner of Ogden died peacefully in her sleep Feb 28, 2005. She was born Dec. 13, 1924 in Castle Gate, Utah, the third of five children to Ferrel Day and Mary Johnson Day. She spent her childhood on a farm in Emery County tending cows, riding her favorite horse Ol' Slim and reading books. She attended North Emery High School and was honored as the valedictorian of her graduating class in 1943. On Nov. 28, 1946 she married Jack S. Faulkner. He passed away in 1965. She has four children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her interests are her family, her two cats and the Utah Jazz. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She was awarded ribbons for her excellence in sewing at the Utah State Fair. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and American Business Women's Association for several years and served in many leadership capacities in these organizatio ns. Jean is known for having a huge heart, big enough for loving all kinds of people, animals and creatures. She worked at Hill AFB for 30 years until she retired in 1993. Surviving are one son and three daughters, Carol and Matt Felici, Dennis and Pamela Faulkner, Cydney and Danny Shafer, Tracy and Marilyn Johnson-Faulkner; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Marjorie Day and Ruby DeGroot. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Kenna Mecham, and brother Keith Day. Gibson, Thomas Grant ROY - Thomas Grant Gibson, 79, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 17, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, the son of James Forbes and Elizabeth Lightfoot Gibson. Thomas married Sylvia Mae on May 25, 1944. Sylvia passed away April 25, 1975. He then married Bertha Vaughn September 1975. Bertha passed away in 1990. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Roy Jaycees. For 20 years, Dad was a volunteer at Union Station. Surviving are his children: Cheyrl Budge, Alan Gibson, and Debra Kerr, also stepdaughters, Betty, Barbara and Bernice, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and brother Carl Gibson. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West. Giles, Jack Neilson Jack Neilson Gillies LAYTON - Our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away February 26, 2005 at the age of 92. Dad was born May 5, 1912 in Beaver, Utah to John Burton Gillies and Nellie Inez Neilson. Jack married Alla Larue Johnson September 24, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA. Jack was employed at Sperry-Rand Corp. and Hill Air Force Base as a sheet metal planner. He enjoyed reading, writing, history, politics, camping, travel and his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His wife of 63 years, and one sister, Bette G. Harris, preceded Jack in death. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends to include his daughter, Jill (Ken) Flint of Layton, grandchildren; Steven (Linda) Flint, Layton; Laurie (Rulon) Gardner, Fruit Heights; Kirk Flint, West Point; Christopher Flint, Kirkland, WA. "Hat" Hatfield OGDEN, Utah - Boulder City, NV Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend died February 19, 2005 at the age of 77 in Yuma, Arizona from complications of heart disease. Hat was born in Ord, Nebraska on January 24, 1928, the son of Ralph and Hazel (Donner) Hatfield. Hat was a veteran of both the Navy and the Air Force. He married Novice Gay Knotts on December 31, 1954 in Weatherford, TX. Hat was transferred to Ogden, Utah in 1956 with IBM, retiring after 30 years as a service manager. Hat and Gay have wintered in Yuma, Arizona for the last 10 years. Hat enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and making friends. Hat was preceded in death by his brothers Archie and Gerald and both parents. He is survived by his wife, Gay, two sons, Bruce (Becky) Hatfield of Kimberly, Idaho; Scott (Mary) Hatfield of Washington Terrace, Utah; one daughter Jill (Dave) Penrod of Ogden, Utah; and many grandchildren. OGDEN - Frank LeRoy Hodson, 91, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, just one month prior to his 92nd birthday, at the Manor Care facility in South Ogden. He was born April 3, 1913 in Marriott, Utah, a son of Delbert Franklin and Elizabeth Butler Hodson. He married Ann Wintle, November 14, 1935 in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple May 15, 1959. Ann preceded him in death in June 1969. He lived in Marriott until their marriage when they moved to Wilson until December 1970 when he married Alberta Wintle Britton, a sister of Ann, and moved to Ogden. Roy enjoyed farming and raising beautiful horses and dairy cattle for much of his life. Later he worked as a carpenter for the Ogden City Schools. He enjoyed shoeing horses for many years, and made many friendships doing this. Dad has been a member of the Marriott, Wilson, and Weber Heights Wards. Serving at various times in the Sunday School Presidency, Elders Quorum Presidency, home teacher an d other positions throughout his life. He was a High Priest at the time of his death. Dad enjoyed gardening, traveling, hunting and spending time with his extended family and friends. He also liked helping anyone who might need help in anyway, many times going out of his way to help others. Surviving are his wife Alberta; two sons and one daughter, Dean (Renae) Hodson, Bill (Judy) Hodson of West Haven and Shirley (Brent) Frost of South Ogden. He had 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Rick, Curtis, Clay, Brad, Justin, Sherlene, Matt, Julie and Nate. He has 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three stepchildren, Jim Britton of Sacramento, CA; Bertie Adams of Clearfield; and Jane Hunsaker of Kaysville; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Carl (Louise) Hodson, Marriott; a sister Dorothy Holmes and a brother-in-law Clyde Coy of West Haven. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, one brother Grant Hodson, three sisters Mildre d Slater, Fay Coy, and Phyllis DeVries, and his stepmother, Ivie Tucker Hodson. Hudgens, Winton Ray Winton Ray Hudgens (Mr. Winton) Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away the morning of March 1, 2005 in Afton, Wyoming where he resided with his loving wife of 58 years. Dad was born on August 4, 1930, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Joseph B. Hudgens and Grace Kap Hudgens. He was the third of seven children. He was raised in Ogden, Utah and attended Ogden City Schools. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and honorably served his country. He returned to Ogden and resided in North Ogden for many years before relocating to Afton, Wyoming. Dad married our mom, Janis Blodgett (daughter of Carl and Lila Blodgett of North Ogden) on February 19, 1947, in San Diego, California, and had just passed their 58-year anniversary. Together they raised five children. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his children. He spent his years loving and teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad worked for the OUR&D Railroad for 23 years and post injury, retired. He was always a railro ad man, bib overalls, and loved the time he spent working at the old fox trot shanty, the Jr. Old Timers and the Old Timers Association gatherings. He also enjoyed the time he worked for the Defense Depot Ogden. Dad is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lenly, Waylon, and sister Beverly. He is survived by his wife, Janis and children: Barry Hudgens, Afton; Christine Midget (Larry), Smithfield; Steven Hudgens, Logan; Lynn Hudgens (Melica), Heber City; Janna Sadler (Rodway), Tooele; and his 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, LaVere (Jan) Hudgens, Longmont, CO; Neil (Shirley) Hudgens, Ogden, UT; and one sister, Janeil Hudgens, Ogden, UT. Dad will always be remembered for the stories that he would tell over and over and the jokes that he would laugh to. He spent many hours at the local cafes: Wangsgards, Mt. View and Harmons with the guys. He loved his home in Afton and spent many hours putting around on the wheeler. He's best loved fo r whatever belongs to you, will eventually belong to me. Dad we will miss you always, and keep in our hearts the stories, jokes and love. May you be reuniting with old friends and family, and telling them the same jokes. We'll see you again. Jones, Eunice Eunice Newbold Jones Together Again OGDEN - Eunice Newbold Jones, 86, died February 28, 2005 at Mt. Ogden Nursing Center. She was born November 21, 1918 in Downey, Idaho to Andrew James Newbold and Karen Christine (Carrie) Rasmussen Newbold. Eunice grew up and attended school in the town of her birth and later moved to Logan, Utah. She married Jesse Lewis Jones July 2, 1938 in Logan. On Dec. 28, 1989 they were sealed to one another in the Ogden Temple. They were parents of Karla (David) Holt of West Yellowstone, Montana; Lennis (Wells) Stephensen of Palmer, Alaska; Maureen (Glen) Davies of Farr West, Utah; and Randy (Donna) Jones of Harrisville, Utah. They were blessed with 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and her family was the joy of her life. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Ogden 29th Ward most of her adult life. She enjo yed teaching primary and was the secretary in the ward Relief Society for many years. She also spent many hours being a dedicated visiting teacher. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and preserving the fruits of the harvest. Throughout her life, she completed many craft projects, such as embroidery work, crocheting, quilting, and ceramics. She also had a great love for music. She played the violin, harmonica, trombone, and table organ and sang in the ward choirs and played in the ward rhythm band. Her brother, Otis (Lynn) Newbold, is her only surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her husband, a baby daughter, parents, and two brothers, Murland and Floyd Newbold and one sister, Phyllis McBride. Rhees PLEASANT VIEW - Thelma Ward Rhees, 97, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 in Orem, Utah. She was born October 17, 1907, in Liberty, Ogden Valley, to Albert G. and Charlotte Woodfield Ward. She loved the beautiful valley and had a happy childhood on the family farm. She attended grade school in Liberty and North Ogden, graduated from Ogden High School and from Weber College with a teaching certificate. Thelma married Reuben G. Rhees on June 17, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1974. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pleasant View 1st Ward for 70 years, serving in the Primary and Young Women for many years as a teacher, counselor, and president. She also served in the stake auxiliaries, and was a Relief Society visiting teacher for 50 years. She and her eternal companion were ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. Thelma was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and was active in PTA in the North Ogden and Wahlquist schools. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially her tours to the temples and church history sites. She also attended the temples in England, Germany and Switzerland. She taught first and second grades in Pleasant View and Liberty. She also worked at the Internal Revenue Service for several years. Thelma loved her large family and they returned their love to her. She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Connie Ward, Spanish Fork; Frances (Dale) Burt, Bear River City; Ranae Linford, North Ogden; Geniel (Kent) Van Kampen, Birmingham, AL; Reuben Ward "Butch" (Karin Borklund) Rhees, Orem; and Raymond (Vickie Stocks) Rhees, Littleton, CO. Her family includes 29 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin sisters LaVene Ward and Rosene Shaw, brothers Ralph Ward and Glen Ward, two sons-in-law LeGrand Ward and Seth James Linford, and two grandchildren Jill and Kelly. Spinden, Clifford Ernest Clifford Ernest Spinden Together Again OGDEN - Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this earth Wednesday, March 2, 2005 to join his wife who had left him here 12 years ago. Clifford Ernest Spinden, 85, passed away from heart illness. He was born Aug 26, 1919, the son of Ernest and Eva Lucille Ellis Spinden in Preston, ID. He married Shirley Elaine Nye on August 26, 1940, in Ogden, where they spent their 53 years together. He was a devoted husband and cared lovingly for his wife who was ill for many years. He was a member of the LDS Lomond View Ward. He spent many years volunteering at the Church Welfare Cannery. He was in the Infantry as a rifleman, part of the 10th Mountain Division in World War II. He became a disabled Vet in Italy when he was shot in the arm. During the war, he received a good conduct medal, a bronze star for going beyond the call of duty and two purple hearts. He survived growing up during the depression, war, heart disease and the chal lenges of life. He left with his mind as quick as a whip, but his body was tired and ready to go home. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service. He loved playing card games, playing pool and going fishing with his good friend, Virginia Bent and her family. He was a quiet, wonderful man filled with honesty and integrity who would do anything for anyone and gave everything he had to those in need. Much of his time and money was spent with those friends who have had some hard knocks and found themselves homeless. He was even known to bring them into his home to help them out. He loved his boys and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his four sons and their wives, Gerry W. and Kay Spinden, Roy; David J and JoAnn Spinden, Clifford (Dee) and Judy Spinden, all of Ogden; Mark and Sandy Spinden, North Ogden; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one sister Erma Clark, Ogden; and one brother Ralph Spinden, Ogden. He was pre ceded in death by his parents, beautiful wife, one sister, Eva Brown, and one brother, Kenneth G. Spinden; one granddaughter, JoAnn Spinden. Grandpa is LOVE!
