She was born Sept. 25, 1947 in Yokohama, Japan and spent the first eight years of her life in Our Lady of Lourdes baby home. She was adopted by Joseph and Donna Benstog and arrived in San Bernardino, Calif. on Dec. 24, 1955. She attended St. Anne Grammar and St. Bernardine High School. She married Jim Bainter in 1969 and moved to California, where they had two sons, Michael and Brian. They later moved to Mesa, Arizona, where she lived until her death. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Michelle), Brian (Rebecca) and granddaughter, Emmerson; her parents, Donna and Joe Benstog; brothers, David (Barbara), Patrick, Tom (Diane), Paul (Lola), Dominic and sisters, Becky (John) and Laurie (Dean) and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, etc. Rosary will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7 at Lakeshore Mortuary, Mesa and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Mesa. Cruz, Helen Helen Cruz OGDEN - Helen Cruz passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Mount Ogden Care Center. She was born to Chrestino and Benedita Casias in Chama, New Mexico on April 23, 1925. She spent her early years in Ignacio, Colorado, where she married Flavio Salazar. They were later divorced. Since 1952 she has resided in Ogden where she met and married Casie Cruz, who preceded her in death along with a son Sammy Cruz, baby Alicia, and brother Lloyd Casias. Helen had many friends who will miss her dearly. The following sons and daughters survive her: Diane Fraga, Salt Lake City; Ted and Tam Cruz, Taylorsville, UT; Richard and Inez Cruz, Enumclaw, WA; Kathy and Earl Bassard, Seymour, IN; Elaine and Michael Lujan, Roy. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Ray and Emma Casias, Phoenix, AZ; Ophelia Mestas, Iganacio, CO; and Chrestino and Lillian Casias, Clearfield. Also surviving are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren whom she loved d early along with her nieces and nephews. Helen loved music and dancing, which always made her feel happy. Helen has now found her "Rinconsito en el Cielo"(a corner of heaven). We will miss you very much. Published in the Standard-Examiner from 3/5/2005 - 3/6/2005. Forsberg, Cleo Udy RIVERSIDE, Utah - Cleo (Pete) Udy Forsberg, 92, was reunited with her sweetheart on March 2, 2005. She was born August 23, 1912, the third of eleven children born to Edmund Udy and Mary Buxton Udy. She attended Riverside Elementary and Bear River High School. She married Joseph E. Forsberg on August 27, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. At the time of Joe's death in 1992, the couple had been married for over 62 years. Mom was a hard worker and was known as a woman of strong character. She worked at Bowcutt Floral and Gus's Grocery and also helped with the family farm. She enjoyed cooking and baking and no one left her home without a bite to eat. Grandma Pete will leave lasting memories of cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. She loved handiwork, particularly quilting, and generously shared her talents with family and friends. The greatest disappointment of her life was losing her eyesight. She was an active member of the Belmont Second Ward and served faithfully in various c allings. Mom enjoyed sporting events. She loved watching Jack and Melinda train horses in the arena behind her home and also attended the competitions. She particularly enjoyed watching her brothers, grandsons and nephews race cutter teams. She and Dad enjoyed fishing together. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters, her daughter (Erlyn Pitkin), a stillborn son and great-grandson (Brayden Scoffield). Grandma Pete leaves behind many who loved her dearly: brothers, Ray V. (Louise) Udy of Riverside and Oleen Udy of Ogden; daughters, Connie (Dean) Andersen of Garland and Marlene (Gayle) Christensen of Tremonton; son, Jack E. (Melinda) Forsberg of Riverside and son-in-law Darrell Pitkin of Riverside. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and eight great, great grandchildren. We will celebrate her life Monday, March 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Belmont 1st/2nd Ward Chapel located at 16925 North 5200 West, Riverside. Family and friend s may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home located at 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. Gibson, Thomas Grant ROY - Thomas Grant Gibson, 79, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 17, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, the son of James Forbes and Elizabeth Lightfoot Gibson. Thomas married Sylvia Mae on May 25, 1944. Sylvia passed away April 25, 1975. He then married Bertha Vaughn September 1975. Bertha passed away in 1990. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Roy Jaycees. For 20 years, Dad was a volunteer at Union Station. Surviving are his children: Cheyrl Budge, Alan Gibson, and Debra Kerr, also stepdaughters, Betty, Barbara and Bernice, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and brother Carl Gibson. Graveside services will be held Monday, March 7, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West. Jones, Eunice Together AgainOGDEN - Eunice Newbold Jones, 86, died February 28, 2005 at Mt. Ogden Nursing Center. She was born November 21, 1918 in Downey, Idaho to Andrew James Newbold and Karen Christine (Carrie) Rasmussen Newbold. Eunice grew up and attended school in the town of her birth and later moved to Logan, Utah. She married Jesse Lewis Jones July 2, 1938 in Logan. On Dec. 28, 1989 they were sealed to one another in the Ogden Temple. They were parents of Karla (David) Holt of West Yellowstone, Montana; Lennis (Wells) Stephensen of Palmer, Alaska; Maureen (Glen) Davies of Farr West, Utah; and Randy (Donna) Jones of Harrisville, Utah. They were blessed with 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and her family was the joy of her life. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Ogden 29th Ward most of her adult life. She enjo yed teaching primary and was the secretary in the ward Relief Society for many years. She also spent many hours being a dedicated visiting teacher. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and preserving the fruits of the harvest. Throughout her life, she completed many craft projects, such as embroidery work, crocheting, quilting, and ceramics. She also had a great love for music. She played the violin, harmonica, trombone, and table organ and sang in the ward choirs and played in the ward rhythm band. Her brother, Otis (Lynn) Newbold, is her only surviving sibling. She was preceded in death by her husband, a baby daughter, parents, and two brothers, Murland and Floyd Newbold and one sister, Phyllis McBride. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Viewings will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Par k. McEwen, Eva Maxine Eva Maxine McEwen (Max) Maxine passed on in her sleep at the Washington Terrace Nursing Center, Ogden, Utah, on March 2, 2005 at the age of 83. She was born on a farm June 20, 1921 in Dola, WV, the daughter of Robert Swiger and Donna (Stiers) Swiger. Maxine left home at the age of 14 to become variously, a ladies' maid, a kitchen worker and a Woolworth's clerk in the coal mining towns of West Virginia. In 1942 Maxine saw an ad for Ordnance Workers in Hawthorne, Nevada, and rode the train to Hawthorne to work in the production areas of NAD Hawthorne. While there, she met and married a young Marine, Corporal James V. McEwen, and followed him through his Marine postings during the war. After the war they settled in North Hollywood, CA. and had two children, James II and Brenda. Jim and Maxine moved back to Hawthorne in 1957, where they opened a sheet metal shop on E Street. To help the family out, Maxine worked several years in the kitchen at the old Mt. Grant General Hospital. While her children were growing up in Hawthorne, Maxine supported both of them in Scouting, Civil Air Patrol and school activities. Jim and Maxine were both very active in the VFW holding various post on the local and district level. They spent many hours working to benefit the Veterans and their families. Maxine was a life member of John Franklin Shain Auxiliary Post 2313, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. You could always see her downtown on Armed Forces Day, selling Buddy Poppies. She moved with her husband to Winnemucca, NV, where they lived for several years. Maxine and Jim divorced in 1978, after 35 years of marriage, but continued to love him until her death. She moved back to Hawthorne in 1978, and worked at the Monarch Cafe, then for United Maintenance Service at HWAAP. After the Base went contract she was hired as an Ordnance Worker by DZB and worked at the Demil facility for 10 years. She stayed active with her work in VFW and later worked part time at the El Capitan Casino, at both the Golf Course and in the Buffet, finally retiring at the age of 72. In failing health, Maxine moved from Hawthorne in 2002 to her daughter's home in Ogden, UT. Her wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes scattered where she lived. Memorial Services will be held later at a later date. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, five Brothers and a Sister. She is survived by her son, James McEwen II, her daughter, Brenda McEwen Watkins, and by three grandchildren; Curtis Watkins II (Michelle), Paul Watkins (Lisa) and Angela McEwen Kenyon (Robert). She greatly enjoyed spending time with her seven great grandchildren; Blake, Alicia, Tyson, Curt III, and Ian Watkins and Joshua and Alex Kenyon. The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Doctor Susan Hustad, the Vista Care Hospice Team of Jennifer, Linda, Bridgette and Bruce; and the Nurses and Staff at Washington Terrace, in Ogden, UT. Moss, Murray Milton Murray Milton Moss Will be Missed Beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, age 91, passed away peacefully March 3, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born April 22, 1913 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, son of Charles Wesley and Hannah Leticia West Moss. Married Afton Udy May 20, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada; solemnized October 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple. He met Afton roller skating and enjoyed it throughout his life. He liked welding and worked on the spires for the Washington D.C. Temple and helped with the new Eagle Gate. Murray and Afton loved to go for rides and see places. Survived by wife, Afton; daughters: Janus (Doug) Tanner and Kay (Bill II) Geist; six grandchildren: Becky (Shayne) Angle, Bill III (Becky) Geist, Shane Tanner, David (Alexis) Geist, Mike (Stephanie) Geist and Kimberly Tanner. Pope, Mina OGDEN - Mina Hartwig Pope, 92, died March 4, 2005. She was born in Fresno, California on December 28, 1912. She had two brothers and two sisters, all of whom have preceded her in death. Her ancestors emigrated from Germany to Straube, Russia, and her parents emigrated from Russia to the United States. They settled in Fresno, and Mina was raised on a raisin-producing farm. She met her husband, Eddie Pope, while she was working as a waitress in the restaurant he owned in Glendale, California. After Mina and Eddie married, they moved to Montrose, California, where they raised two children, John and Barbara. In 1948 they sold the restaurant and started a business manufacturing Hot Shot Fishing Lures. Mina was the secretary, bookkeeper and "Girl Friday." They operated the business from their home in Montrose for four years. They moved the business to Altadena, California in 1952, and then to Valencia, California in 1969. They sold the fishing tackle business in 1977, and moved t o Mesa, Arizona, where they lived until Eddie died in 1980. Mina continued to live in Mesa until 1999 when she moved to North Ogden to be close to her daughter, Barbara. Mina loved her family deeply, and although she worked alongside her husband for all those years, she was committed to her most important role as mother. She is greatly loved by her children and their spouses - John Pope and his wife Jackie Singer, and Barbara Pope Price and her husband Tom Price - and by her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service for family and friends will be held today, Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Ben Lomond 11th Ward located at 3610 N. 650 E. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn in Glendale, California. We wish to thank the wonderful people at Crestwood Care Center who took care of Mom for the last nine months with such love and kindness, and Applegate Hospice who helped care for her during this last month. Rothey, Allan Dean Allan Dean Rothey OGDEN - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather rejoined his eternal Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at the age of 83. He was born December 22, 1921 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, to Leonidas Godfrey and Ruth Brown Rothey. Allan married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Pollak, on June 26, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had three daughters, Elizabeth (Ralph) Smith, Monterray, Mexico; Joanie (Ron) Hadley, Ogden; and Erika (Allan) Miller, Anderson, Alaska. He served with the U.S. Armed Forces and in the course of his career defended his country in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the war in Vietnam. He received many medals during his service for honor and bravery. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 after 28 years of service. Allan was an active member of Pleasant Valley 3rd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for many years in the High Priest 's Group and for a time with his wife on the ward sealing team in the Ogden LDS Temple. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family, and especially loved Germany. He and his family lived in Madrid, Spain for two tours of duty. Allan will be greatly missed by family and friends, to whom he was affectionately known as "the candy man" because he always had a smile and a treat for all he met. He will also be fondly remembered for his caring and concern for others, his upright military carriage, and especially for his collection of hats. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Jeff Call for taking such good care of Allan. We also express deep appreciation to friends, neighbors and members of the Pleasant Valley 3rd Ward -Joe Widman and Earl Castner - for all their help and concern. Curry Yates, 81, peacefully went to her final resting place on March 2, 2005 following a short illness. She was born January 9, 1924 in Rock Springs, WY to Harold and Stella Townsend. One of Nelda's favorite daily routines was going to The Carlin Open Door Senior Center to visit her friends and play Bingo. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dawneen McShane and brother, Victor Townsend, and husband of 21 years, Cecil Curry. Nelda is survived by six sons: Jack Kuder, Roger (Rene) Curry and Kenneth Curry of Carlin; John (Marilyn) Curry of Spring Creek; Stephen (Chris) Curry of Elko; Richard (Debi) Curry Sr. of Ogden, UT. Also nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 7, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Carlin, Nevada at 2 p.m. Reverend Tim Shields will officiate. Burial will follow at Carlin Cemetery.
