Don was born on June 7, 1928 in Bear River City, a son of Ernest N. and Ivy Mathias Anderson. He married Marion Lucille Neff on December 16, 1951, in Evanston, WY, and was married for 53 great years. He was born and raised in Bear River City on the Family Farm. He attended elementary school in Bear River City and graduated from Box Elder High School. He wan an army veteran, serving in Japan, during WWII. Dad played the banjo, piano, organ, and trumpet. He loved playing baseball, bowling, enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, yard work, and spending time at Duke and Lyle's shop. He worked at DDO and HAFB in Missile Systems taking medical retirement after 32 years of military and civilian service. He had a private pilot's license and enjoyed providing R&R flights for patients of Bushnell Military Hospital. He was a member of the LDS Church. He was a lifetime member of F.O.E. and he was a member of the American Legion. Dad is survived by his devoted wife Marion, and his children, Dennis (Barbara) Kendall, Eagle River, AK; Geraldine (Reed) Halling, Salt Lake City; Dean (Lori) Anderson, Plain City; Donnell (Mike) Nelson, Brigham; JoEllen (Val) Gunther, Brigham; Ernest (Connie) Anderson, Brigham; Clayton (Sheri) Anderson, Plain City; 39 grandchildren (four serving LDS missions), 51 great-grandchildren, and two on the way. Two brothers, E. Ardell Jiggs (Jean) Anderson, Centerville, Robert N. (Reva) Anderson, Perry; two sisters, DeNece Barker, Willard; Jean (Max) Facer, Rupert ID; one sister-in-law, Pat Anderson, Perry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Byron C. Anderson, and brother-in-law Don Barker. Astroth-Gieben, Wilhelmine Henriette (Mimi) Wilhelmine (Mimi) Henriette Astroth-Gieben OGDEN - Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted friend, Mimi, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mimi was born March 18, 1912, in Ludwigshafen, Germany to Elizabeth Van De Sandvoort and Christian Astroth. Mimi and her family lived in Frankfurt, Germany for ten years. When she was ten years old her family moved to Amsterdam, Holland, where she attended a German school. On June 20, 1932, Mimi married Johannes H. Gieben, in Amsterdam, Holland. They had two children, Johannes Gieben and Jeanette Gieben. The family prospered in Amsterdam, Holland, where they owned a successful handbag and fine leather manufacturing business that also included an automobile upholstery and paint restoration company, having a reputation throughout Amsterdam for their fine quality and craftsmanship. The family remained in Amsterdam until the German occupation of World War II. The family left their city, home and business to wait out the war in a home in the country where they helped in the resistance of the German occupation. They remained there until the end of World War II. After the war the family moved back to Amsterdam where they met LDS Mormon Missionaries and later moved to Ogden, Utah, in 1950, where the family became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mimi and her family started their new life in Utah running a successful upholstery business for many years in Ogden. Mimi and her husband, John, retired together in Mountain Green, Utah, where they lived happily with their family and friends for many years. In 1990, after traveling the country in their motor home they moved back to their old neighborhood in Ogden. Mimi will always be remembered for her cheerful, outgoing personality that extended openly to many people. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son-in-law, Robert S. Bergen; three grandchildren, John R. Bergen, Rudy C. Bergen, Valerie J. (Brian R. Ivers) Bergen-Ivers; and a very precious great-granddaughter, Mia Jeanette Ivers; and many remaining relatives in Holland and Germany. Mimi was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Gieben, her son, Johannes (Johnny) Gieben, and her daughter, Jeanette H. Gieben-Bergen. Buck, Thelma J. Together Again RIVERDALE/ROY - Thelma Jorgensen Buck, 86, passed away Friday, March 4, 2005 at Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton from causes incident to age. She was born January 26, 1919, in Eureka, Utah, the only child of Alvin and Mary Frances Kearns Jorgensen. She attended Park City schools and graduated from Park City High School in 1936. Thelma married Robert G. Buck on January 18, 1940 in Park City. He died April 12, 1997. Thelma was a superb homemaker, and worked as a bank teller for many years. Her interests included music and dancing. Thelma was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her children and their spouses who survive are: R. Blaine (MaryLou) Buck, Riverdale, UT; Dale (Darlene) Buck, Wilmington, NC; Janet O'Brien, Des Moines, WA; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Castillo LAYTON - Our loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend returned to our Heavenly Father on Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2005. Waiting to greet her was her best friend and brother, Harry. Marty was born January 3, 1965 in Ogden, the daughter of Jose and Soila Sepulveda Castillo. Marty graduated from Layton High School in 1983 and attended WSU and the U of U. Marty enjoyed working on her computer, spending time with her little dog Cuddles, Pepsi, and loving and caring for all her nieces and nephews. She was an inspiration and loved by all who knew her. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, hunting, camping and gardening. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. During his life Robert received many honors, He served his Country during WWII in the Pacific as a Platoon Sergeant in the Marines. He was decorated with m ultiple Military Honors including the Purple Heart. But his most precious honor was the 53 years of love and marriage to his sweetheart and devoted wife Dorothy Dee (Bowden) Church. Ellsworth, Clyde Elmer Clyde Elmer Ellsworth "Tuff/Hoppy" WASHINGTON TERRACE - Clyde Ellsworth, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, March 7, 2005. He was born December 17, 1930 in Leota, Utah, a son of John and Betty Ellsworth. The family moved to Vernal, Utah where he grew up and went to school. The family then moved to Ogden where he met the love of his life, Shirley Alberts. They were married in Ogden on August 7, 1947.They were married 57 years and out of that union they had six children - three boys and three girls. Clyde worked at Swift and Company meat plant for 22 years until they closed. He then went to N.D. S. Freeport Center in Clearfield until he retired in 1993. Clyde was a self-made mechanic and handyman and kept his children's cars running for many years. Clyde and Shirley were outdoors lovers of camping, fishing and exploring the sideroads on their ATV's. They instilled in their children the love of the outdoors and to appreciate nature. Clyde is survived by his wife and five children, Michael (Judy) Ellsworth, South Ogden; Peggy (Scott) Taylor, Durango, CO; Deon (Matt) Pelz, Ogden; Debra Ellsworth, Ogden; Jeff (Barbara) Ellsworth, Riverdale; Beverlee Ellsworth, Ogden. He left a legacy of 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. His brother, Jerry Ellsworth of Sunset, Utah; and Harold "Bud" Ellsworth of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son, Monty J. Hansen, Niels Niels Henrik Aaris Hansen passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 6, 2005. He was born to Ane Karoline Sorensen and August Hansen on January 27, 1925 in Viborg, Denmark. He left home at age 14 to go to sea, as a mess man. He worked his way up from there to third mate, second mate, first mate and then captain. He enjoyed a distinguished career at sea working on the Great Lakes and for Military Sea Transportation. He traveled all over the world during his career. He became a citizen of the United States in 1956. He married Aslaug Traeland in 1958 in Brooklyn, New York. Together they had three children. They were later divorced. He married Tomi Tabata on August 6, 1968, in Tokyo, Japan where he lived and worked for 22 years. They were married for 34 years. They retired in 1987 to Citrus Heights, California. He loved the climate there and became a master gardner becoming known for his fruits and vegetables. He is preceded in death by his sweetheart, Tomi. He is survived by his three children: Sonja Clawson (Gary), Kim Green (Jim) and Cliff Moquin, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Goodbye for now, PaPa, save us a place. Mother was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, September 11, 1923 to William and Sophie Hunt. Upon graduation from high school, Iris relocated to Ogden, UT where she worked at the Ogden Arsenal. After World War II, she continued working at Hill Air Force Base for 42 years. Mom was united in marriage to our father, John E. Howell on January 4, 1947. She was preceded in death by our father; sister, Fae Biggs; brother, Wesley Hunt and her parents. She leaves behind three children, Luckie J. (Carolyn) Howell, Ogden, UT; Kevin E. (Diana) Howell, West Haven, UT; Tami S. (Bob) Parrinello, West Haven, UT; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one sister, Kathleen Bywater, Coos Bay, OR and many nieces and nephews. Mom was always very loving and giving. She always had a positive attitude and looked for the best in everyone. She was always pleasant and polite . She hardly ever complained and always did what she could to help those in need, even if it meant going without, herself. She will be dearly missed. Beers Marx CLEARFIELD - Mom left this world peacefully, completing her 91 year journey, and into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 6, 2005. Mom was born October 21, 1913, in Castledale, Utah, to Bertie Behunin and Franklin Clare Beers. She was the seventh of 11 children. She lived her early years in Castledale, Vernal, and Salt Lake City where she taught Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society. On her 20th birthday she married the love of her life, Rex Marx. Dad was a salesman, so they moved frequently, living in all of the Western States. They were married 54 years when Dad passed away in 1988. From that union they had one son, Rev. Michael J. (Betty) Marx, Sr., Owensboro, Kentucky, and two daughters, Patricia (Darrell/Pete) Call of Farr West, and the late Sharon Kay Vier. Her early interests were crocheting, cooking, being a homemaker, and a mother and wife. She and Dad loved to camp, travel, rock hunt and fish. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease with her family members. She leaves her son, and daughter, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She outlived all of hers and Dads siblings, as well as their spouses, Dad, her daughter, one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren. She was a Christian and loved the Lord Jesus and looked forward to meeting him and all of her loved ones again. Mother, You filled our days with rainbow lights, fairy tales and sweet dream nights, a kiss to wipe away our tears, gingerbread to ease our fears. She was born January 19, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth E. and Ina Mae Evert Knapp. On June 2, 1961 Michele married Wayne Morris in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She spent her childhood in Chicago and Milwaukee and returned to Ogden at the age of nine. Michele graduated from Ogden High school in 1960 and obtained her Associates of Science Degree from Weber State College in 1962, where she graduated with the first class of Radiology Technology. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings. Michele was very fond of the fellowship from the members of the Marriott/ Slaterville Ward and credits her life's success to their friendship. Michele enjoyed her family, camping with her grandchildren, reading stories to her grandchildren and loved the theater. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her children, Darin W. (Jolynn) Morris, St. George, UT; Bradley J. (Denise) Morris, Syracuse, UT; Ted J. (Amber) Morris, Pleasant Grove, UT; Michele M. (Robert) Lower, Ogden, UT; 12 grandchildren, plus twins on the way; her mother, Ina Mae Evert Knapp; and two sisters, Gay Prewitt and Shauna Schmidt. Michele was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth E. Knapp, and an infant grandson, Kaden C. Morris. He was born April 12, 1927 in Deer River, Minnesota the son of Fred and Helen Barton Omer. He married Viola Eckert on July 3, 1952 in Marcell, Minnesota. They were later divorced. Raymond served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. Raymond liked to square dance with the Single Swingers and hunting, fishing in the outdoors. Surviving are two sons, James Omer, Clearfield; DeWayne (Jene) Omer, Fountain Green; two daughters, Verna Thunder Eagle, Layton; Kathy Taylor, Ogden; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Norine S OGDEN - Sarah Norine Law Palmer 78, died Sunday, March 6, 2005 at her home in Ogden from complications of pneumonia. She was born April 3, 1926 in Ogden, a daughter of John A. and Isabel Boyle Law. On September 29, 1944, Norine married Russell Palmer in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was reared and educated in Ogden graduating from Ogden High School. Norine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sullivan Hollow 1st Ward. She held various callings throughout her church membership. Norine loved to spend time with her family and always enjoyed camping and cooking. Surviving are her husband of Ogden; one son and four daughters, Glen R. Palmer, Mantua, UT; Diane (Eldon) Hatch, DeAnn (Scott) Feller, Linda (Greg) Thorstensen, and Lisa Romero, all of Ogden; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Jerry Law. Preceding her in death were her parents, one brot her, one sister, and two grandchildren. Richards, Denton S. OGDEN - Denton Stanford Richards, 85, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital from leukemia. He was born April 19, 1918 in Carey, Idaho, the son of William Denton and Vermile Louise Stanford Richards. He married Ara Andersen on May 22, 1942 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 22, 1953. She preceded him in death. He grew up in Carey, Idaho and attended elementary school there and in Picaboo, Idaho and also in Ocean Park, California. He graduated from high school in Carey and then attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah where he earned a B.S. Degree in Radio Technology. He served with the U.S. Army as a veteran of World War II where he served as a Signal Corps Officer in Iran which was in the Persian Gulf Command. He then was stationed at Fort Douglas, Utah. Denton was employed b the U.S. Air Force at Hill Air Force Base as an electronic engineer for 21 years. Denton was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a High Priest. He served in various Ward and Stake positions mainly as a Clerk or Executive Secretary. Surviving are his brother, Rollo C. Richards, Orem; sister-in-law, Betty Lee Glauser, brother-in-law Dr. Stanley Andersen, San Francisco, CA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who were close to him. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends at the Harrison Regent Retirement Center in Ogden where he lived. He was preceded in death by his wife Ara and little daughter, Abbie Louise. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be next to his wife and daughter at the Bear River City Cemetery. Robison, Paul LAYTON - Paul Robison, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home March 4, 2005. He was born to Hardy Robison and Eva Wilson on May 23, 1925. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Evelyn R. Allred on May 26 1968 The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the United States Navy during WW II with an honorable discharge. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. He also had a strong love for horses. He was one of the founders of the Utah Trail Endurance Riders. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Linda Robison and Vickie Lynn Reed, his brother Robert Robison and his great grandson, Preston Mascarenas. Surviving is his wife Evelyn Robison, son Rodney B. Spiers, (Terry) daughter, Wendy J. Carpenter (Kevin) twin sister Pauline Lawler of S.D., many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and stepchildren, Darrell and Carol yn Spiers, Connie and Dewane Bright, Vivian Luddington and Dave and Rita Spiers. Smith, Frances Browning Frances Browning Smith, age 80 of Manhattan, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 in the Honstead House at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. She was born on April 21, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Frank M. and Eugenia (Hanson) Browning. On September 6, 1946 in Ogden, Utah she was married to Charles A. Smith. They later divorced. Frances graduated from Ogden High School in 1942, Vassar College in 1946 and studied additionally in Cuba in 1945. She had been employed as a bookkeeper, a teacher of children in the Ogden School District and as a writer for the Ogden Standard-Examiner. Frances was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ogden, Utah, Junior League, Order of Eastern Star, a 55 year member of P.E.O. and an active member of the Democratic Party. Frances was a daughter, mother, grandmother, teacher, caregiver, leader, worker, writer, poet, musician, artist, friend, a participant in life and a gracious lady. Survivors include five children, Douglas Smith (Joan Hampton) of Manhattan, Kansas, Cheryl Smith Hazel (Richard Hazel) of Portland, Oregon, Charles B. Smith (Margaret Amy) of Des Moines, Iowa, Virginia Smith Bright (Norman Bright) of Clallam Bay, Washington and Quentin R. Smith (Helen Thorsheim) of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Roderick H. Browning and Phillip H. Browning (Kathlene Price) both of Ogden, Utah; and 12 grandchildren. Cremation is planned with a private family inurnment in Ogden, Utah. The daughter of Hans and Elma Anderson. She married Abraham Visser on June 1, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Florence is survived by her son Paul A. (Donna Lewis) Visser, daughter in-law Nedra Blackinton Visser, five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
