Carff, Toby SYRACUSE - After a long and heroic battle with cancer, Toby Joe Carff, returned to our Heavenly Father on Friday, March 18, 2005. He was born to Dennie and Norene Carff, on June 23, 1973, in Hot Springs, South Dakota. He was a courageous boy who loved sports. While in high school, he was a competitive athlete and after graduation he joined the US Navy because of his patriotism and sense of adventure. They lived in Concord and Oceanside, California, where Toby served in the US Navy and attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class, until he began his fight against the illness that rendered all of his warrior's weapons useless. He fought with courage, but while doing so, he sought for the welfare of his family amidst the pain and moved them to Syracuse, Utah. Toby was a hero to many of us, as he did ma ny things that he wasn't supposed to be able to do. He never really told us how much he hurt, as he dealt with the pain and indignities of his illness. Toby was an honest man, whenever you were with him you knew exactly where you stood. Toby was always willing to take on a challenge and would do so with unlimited vigor and enthusiasm. Toby will always be remembered as a beloved husband, devoted son, loving father, loyal brother and child of God. Currin McKinley ROY - We lost our beloved Linda on Sunday March 20, 2005, due to complications from heart problems. She was 59 years old and in a fair world she would have lived to see many more springs come and go. However, in the words of a great nephew, "fairness is a myth". She was born in Ogden on September 29, 1945 to Vincent Sloan and Martha June Clifford Currin. She lived her entire life in the Ogden area except for a few years spent in Dallas, Texas. In July of 1971, Linda married Charles Ira McKinley. They were later divorced. She attended Ogden City schools, graduating from Ogden High school. She graduated from Weber State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. She had a natural talent for that and people were drawn to her listening ear and compassionate soul. She could sit on a bus with a stranger sitting next to her and by the time she reached her stop she would have heard about their lives and troubles. It was like she wore a sign reading " you can tell me, I care". She loved her family, her dear friends in her church and the children in her Sunday School class, flowers (especially Red Emperor tulips in the spring), Drew's grilled hot dogs (and his teasing), iced tea on the patio, key lime pie, little kittens and a good book. Linda is survived by her sister, Lou Ann, a nephew, Drew, nieces, Karen, Robin and Kathleen, 16 great nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Patricia, and her brothers-in-law, John Dunifer and Frank Lorance.
