Patricia was born June 27, 1942 in Ogden, Utah to Ellen Caroline Miller and Walter France Andrew, who was later killed in World War II. She was raised by her mother and stepfather Fred Whitney Andrew. On May 31, 1958 she married the love of her life, Daniel Dennis Alsup. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 7, 1959. Patricia enjoyed doing genealogy, cooking, and dancing, as well as many other talents and hobbies. She is survived by her loving husband, four children, Dorothy (Richard) Kress, Sherril (Derek) Nelson, Laurel Stubbs and Dr. Daniel (Heidi) Alsup, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is one sister, Kathy (Kingston) West. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepfather, one brother, one granddaugh ter and one great-grandson. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. We love her deeply and she will be greatly missed. Costley, 79, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at his home. He was born August 10, 1925 in Eden, a son of Elmer D. and Mary Ann Clark Costley. Lew married Lois Jean Watkins on June 12, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was reared and educated in Ogden graduating from Ogden High School and Utah State University with an accounting degree. Lew was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings including High Councilman and Bishop. As a veteran of World War II, he served his country with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Lew had his own C.P.A. partnership for many years and worked as the chief financial officer for the W.C. Swanson Family Foundation. Lew enjoyed playing golf. He loved people and always looked for ways to help others. Surviving are his wife, Lois of South Ogden; two sons, Dee Costley, Salt Lake City; Jerry (Carol) Costley, Centerville; three grandsons and one granddaughter. Also surviving are three cousins he grew up with and were his "brothers" and "sister", Clark Nielsen, Chad Nielsen and Karma Henry. Ellis, Lola Lola Ellis OGDEN - Mrs. Lola Bea Shaw Ellis, 91, passed away March 24, 2005. She was born February 16, 1919. She and her husband were founders of Embry Chapel AME Church. She was fondly known as Aunt Lola. She was happy, friendly and had many friends. She is survived by two granddaughters; Deborah Bryant of Ogden and Diane Bryant of Sacramento, CA. Greenwood of Ogden, Utah passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. He was born May 21, 1920, in Barber County, Kansas, to Lloyd Manly and Eva Emiline Depp Greenwood. He graduated from Hugoton High School in Kansas. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 7th Army in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. He was honorably discharged. On April 6, 1947, he married Carrol Louise Rhoton in Keyes, Oklahoma. Bronston earned a Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma City University in 1949, a Master of Theology from Illiff School of Theology (Denver, Colorado) in 1952, and a Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1982. He served 40 years as a United Methodist minister, with churches in Mustang, Oklahoma; Oak Creek, Colorado; Castle Rock, Colorado; Aspen-Basalt, Colorado; Center-Mosca, Colorado; Denver, Colorado; Ogden, Utah; and Kearns, Utah. He continued to serve as mi nisterial supply after his retirement in 1985. At various times he participated and acted as leader in: the Lions Club, VFW, Kiwanis Club, Farm Burea, American Cancer Society, Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, State and Local Council of Churches, Ministerial Associations, and the United Way. He was a Master Mason and member of the Golden Spike Lodge #6. His hobbies included photography, gardening, camping, backpacking, hunting and fishing. Bronston loved his family and was a wonderful husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He loved any outdoor activity, especially with his sons and grandchildren, teaching them to hunt and fish. Bronston and Carrol wintered in Overton, Nevada during retirement. Bronston is survived by his wife Carrol, and their three sons and daughters-in-law: Bronston II and Ann of Ogden; Larry and Melinda of Richfield; and Charles and Fonda of Vernal. They have nine grandchildren: Matthew, David (and wife Tricia), Chad, Shane, Paige, Aubrei, Jake, Jesse and Grace. One brother, Wade Greenwood, of Hugoton, Kansas, also survives him. His love, advice, support and wisdom will be greatly missed by all family and friends. His family finds peace and comfort in knowing he now lives with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Hess, Vern Vern Hess 1922 - 2005 Vern quietly passed away on March 22, 2005, at his home in St. George, Utah. He was born in Farmington, Utah on July 9, 1922, to David Willard and Elvira Nielsen Hess. Vern grew up in Farmington, and attended schools in Davis County, graduating from Davis High in 1940. On June 19, 1942, Vern married his high school sweetheart, Alice Mitchell, in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent 62 wonderful years together. During WWII, Vern served in the Army in the Pacific Theater. He spent his early years working for local farmers, Smoot Dairy and Cudahy's, and later with his father as a barber in Farmington. Vern retired with over 30 years of service as a federal meat inspector. He was a high priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in numerous callings throughout his life; his favorite was serving as a temple worker with his wife, Alice, for eight years. After a decline in health, he and Alice moved to St. George, Utah, where he resided until hi s death. Above all, Vern treasured his relationship with his family. He is survived by four children: Verdeen (Stan) Adams, West Point; Shauna (Jim) Williams, Bountiful; Lou Ann (Bill) Sinclair, Layton; Willard (Sandra) Hess, Woods Cross; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, whom he cherished. He is also survived by his brothers Dale (Lois), Farmington; Neal (Mae), Layton; and sisters Nina Page, Bountiful; Helen (Leland) Eatchel, West Warren; and Anna Lou (Fred) Scholes, Manteca, CA. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jesse Hess (Maureen). Vern was a member of the St. George 2nd Ward, and we appreciate their love and concern for us. Higley, Dee Gerald HOOPER - Dee Gerald Higley, 44, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, March 25, 2005 at his home after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He married Alice Hellewell July 26, 1985 in Ogden, Utah; their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple in November of 2004. Dee loved pinstriping and working on peoples' cars, gardening and working in his yard. He especially loved his family and spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Kadee (17), Candace (13), Karli (1) and a son, Quinn (9); his mother, Jerie Higley, Hooper, UT and father, Monte (Janna) Higley, Willard, UT; two brothers, Doug (JoAnne) and Dan Higley and two sisters, Vickie (Nate) Gallegos all of Hooper, UT and Valerie (Alan) Staley, Green River, WY. Judkins, Bary "BJ" Bary "BJ" Judkins passed away at home on March 24, 2005 surrounded by family and loved ones after a valiant battle with lung cancer. Bary was born on April 11, 1937 to Reed and Roselle Stewart Judkins. He was a beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He is a member of the LDS church. He attended East high school where he excelled in sprots and helped his team to three football championships and two track championships. He was state champion in the 100-yard dash and the 220-yard run and set records in those events that stood for years. He then attended the University of Utah where he played football. Bary learned early his work ethic and began working in the family drapery and window covering business at the age of 13. He continued there for 40 years. His two son, Jerry and Jay have followed in his footsteps and now have their own window covering business. He was a consummate salesman and it has been said that he could sell a drowning man water . He married Gwen Peterson with whom he had nine children, they were later divorced. His children have been a source of great pride and enjoyment throughout his life. He nurtured a warm friendship with his children and enjoyed many good years spending time with them. He later married Tammy Nielsen, a loving and doting second mom to his large family. Tammy has truly been his soul mate and has shared his passion for hunting and the outdoors. They have been known to argue about who is the better shot with a deer rifle. The jury is still out on that one. Christmas parties at Bary and Tammy's house were perhaps the highlight of the year and a wonderful time to gather family. Parties were always happy, noisy and full of laughter. He loved sports and coached his sons in their long and successful sports careers. He was a passionate coach and was known for his not so subtle hand signals in little league baseball, his vocal support in basketball, and for teaching his sons to play with legendary sk ill and intensity. Two of his sons, Jeff and Jon currently coach basketball at the college level. He loved hunting, boating, and spending time at "the ranch" with his family and friends. He could fix and build anything and enjoyed projects of all kinds. He also enjoyed regular Tuesday morning breakfasts with his sons and coffee just about every day with his "coffee buds". He had a magical way with a story and could always fill a room with laughter. Though he tried, he never could make a long story short. Bary is preceded in death by his father Reed Judkins and his infant daughter Jennifer. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Tammy Nielsen Judkins, his mother Roselle Judkins, siblings Joan Varanes (Lou), Kent Judkins (Pat), Jean "Teeny" Bentley (Frank), Jill Judkins and Ren Judkins (Lani); his children Jeff Judkins (Mary Kay), Jerry Judkins (Karen), Jay Judkins (Diane), Jodi Aird (David), Jon Judkins (Lanette), Janine Wilson (Travis), Janette Warnock (Steven), Jane Gottschall (Jo hn). He has 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bary will be dearly missed. Knudsen, Ursel Ursel Knudsen 89, Passed away at Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City on March 25, 2005. Ursel was born June 11, 1915 in Dewyville to Joseph Knudsen and Myrtle Mae Eckley. Ursel lived all his life in Deweyville, he attended school at Deweyville Elementary for 8 years. Ursel married Loa Bernice Loveland on May 18, 1938. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Baseball was a love of Ursel's life. He played on many teams in Northern Utah and excelled in the sport. Ursel was a farmer in his younger years, and later worked for Box Elder County on the road department. Ursel is survived by his children: Ursel Neil Knudsen (Jean), Clinton, Utah, Joseph D. Knudsen (Karen), Deweyville, Utah, Terry E. Knudsen (Shirley), Tremonton, Utah, Colyn L. Knudsen (Pam) Deweyville, Utah. He had 12 grandchildren, 17 Great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 grandchild. Layton, John Russell LAYTON - John Russell Layton, 57, passed away March 25, 2005, after a courageous fight with cancer. John was born on July 2, 1947, in Ogden Utah to Rex L. and Ruth Call Layton. He graduated with the class of 1965 from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. He attended Utah State University where he met his wife Sherida Moss. They were married September 5, 1969, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they raised four wonderful children. John achieved many things in his life. Some of his prized achievements included an LDS mission to the Atlantic Eastern States Mission. He served in many callings with the church, including being a Bishop and member of the Stake Presidency in Aurora, Colorado. His greatest joys in life were his family and visiting the Flaming Gorge and Glen Canyon areas. He entertained any audience with his humorous stories. He had his own personal library, which grew from a love to read and learn. John was also an accomplished bluegrass banjo player. H e had a zest for life that influenced all those that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife; children, Christopher (Danyelle), Marni (Guy) Costley, Sean (Meleesa), and Russell (Melissa); sister, Lynette Kinard and seven grandchildren. She worked for Young Electric Sign Company and retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 26 years of service. Verla played the piano and organ which was enjoyment for her. Born in McGill, Nevada, December 11, 1923 to Mark L. and Ida Belle Fronk Jenne. Attended McGill public school, graduated from White Pine High School in 1941. Attended Brigham Young University and Utah State University, graduated in 1967. She married the love of her life Earl Don Peterson August 13, 1944 in McGill. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They were happily married for over 60 years. Her Church service included Relief Society teacher, secretary, counselor and president, visiting teacher, Primary teacher and secretary. She was a substitute teacher and media coordinator at Bear River High School, and member of Tremonton Literary Guild and former member of Tremonton Civic Club. She was a life-long learner, had a quest for knowledge and traveled the world with her husband. Ortell was especially interested i n astronomy, literature and world cultures, but the real love of her life was her family and she was there for every occasion of their lives. Survivors include her husband Earl Don, two daughters and one son, Kathy Doutre, North Ogden, Janet (Glade) Hess, Provo, Kerry (Tammy) Peterson, West Valley. Five grandchildren, Ken (Lori) Doutre, Farr West, Kerry (Heather) Doutre, Harrisville, Natalie, Tiffany and David Hess, Provo. Together Again OGDEN - Ellen Burton Price, passed away peacefullyWednesday, March 23, 2005 due to a stroke at the age of 98. She was born October 28, 1906 in Afton, Wyoming, a daughter of Thomas Fielding and Alice Maud Call Burton. She was the fifth of 13 children. She had many ancestors who came across the plains and was proud of her pioneer heritage. Ellen married Charles William Price, of Ogden, on September 17, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death in October of 1983. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and still attended church regularly. She served as ward chorister for many years. She worked at Defense Depot Ogden where she was a supervisor of telecommunications at the time of her retirement. Ellen had been active in politics and Daughters of Utah Pioneers when her children were young. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. She loved to play the piano and organ. Ellen was proud of her g ood health throughout her life. Surviving are two daughters, Ellen Charlene Price (David) Tschaggeny and Carol Jean Price (John) Gerber and her much loved 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters and one brother, Lilla Barrus, Rachel Bramwell, Carol Humphries, Mona Brown and McKay Burton. Roberts, Ailene Bright "Ann" OGDEN - Ailene (Ann) Bright Roberts, 79, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 at her home in Ogden, of causes incident to age. She was born April 27, 1925 in Bradfordsville, Kentucky, a daughter of Stanley and Nora Rakes Bright. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was raised and educated in Kentucky, later marrying and moving to Utah. She later divorced and devoted her life to rearing her children. Mom worked very hard all her life retiring from Pacific Chromolox. Mom enjoyed having her family home for dinner, watching the Jazz play and listening to her scanner. Her philosophy of life was working hard, paying her bills on time, and staying out of debt. She always had a pot of soup on the stove and room for one more. Her children and grandchildren will miss her greatly. She is survived by her ten children: Juanita "Pee Wee" Orton, Ogden; Sue (Lonnie) Garner, Layton; Barbara (Brent) Frost, Farr West; Kathy (Ron) Thompson, Ogden; Charles (Tamara) Ro berts, Syracuse; Wayne (Vickie) Roberts, Plain City; Jim Roberts, Kentucky; Ron (Jill) Roberts, Roy; Glen (Wendy) Roberts, Ogden; Toby (Teresa) Roberts, North Ogden; 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Thomas, Inez PRESTON, IDAHO - Inez Mary Reeve Thomas, 91, former Honeyville, Utah resident, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Frankin County Nursing Home in Preston. She was born the third of five children to Albert George Reeve Jr. and Abigail Beatrice Cullen at Bear River City, Utah, on August 22, 1913. She grew up in the Bear River City area and graduated from Brigham City High School in 1931. She married John Harold Thomas on November 25, 1932. They lived in Tremonton, Brigham City, California, and Honeyville. They were the parents of four children. Inez had several different occupations including ten years with the Defense Depot in Ogden, and as a seamstress for American Sportswear in Brigham City for ten years. She loved to cook, do ceramics, and crocheting. Her favorite past time was to quilt: she had many, many quilts and donated them to several individuals and organizations. She gave each of her grandchildren a homemade quilt. She served for seventeen years as t he quilting chairman for the Honeyville Ward Relief Society. She and Huck spent many hours fishing on reservoirs throughout Idaho and Utah. Huck passed away in 1990, and in 1996, Inez sold her home and moved to Preston to be closer to her daughter. While in Preston, she served on the board of the Franklin County Senior Citizens and she enjoyed many hours quilting with the Pink Ladies. She was an active member of the Daughter of Utah Pioneers and a member of the Sacagawea Camp. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, John Gardell Thomas, Roy, Utah; Joelynne Hunsaker, Pocatello, Idaho; Stanford Albert (Carolyn) Thomas, McKinleyville, California; Saundra Hubbard, Preston; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and by her brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Mary Lou Thompson, Tremonton, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers and sisters, and by two sons-in-law, and a daughter-in-law. Gravesid e dedication services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 12 noon in the Tremonton, Utah Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. She was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Jane and a nephew Charles Glen Bayless. Funeral Services will be held on W ednesday, March 30, 2005 at the Fullman Hollow 1st Ward, 976 33rd Street in Ogden at 10 a.m. Family and friends may call from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services at the ward.
