Arave, 82, passed away Monday May 9, 2005, at the Heritage Park Nursing Home in Roy, Utah, of complications following a stroke. Don was born January 22, 1923 in Hooper, Utah, the son of Roy E. Arave and Velma Wilcox Arave. He lived most of his life in Hooper except during the time he was serving in the Navy Seabees during World War II. He served in Virginia, Florida, California and the Philippines. On February 23, 1944 Don married Donna Bennett in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He attended Weber High School and Weber State College. Don worked for many years for Ogden Ford Sales and RC Willey's in Syracuse. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, hunting, fishing (particularly in Alaska), and golfing. He served in two different Bishoprics and had many callings in various Hooper Wards. He was interested in community affairs and was instrumental in founding the first Hooper Lions' Club. Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna; sons, Stephen R. (Lynda) Arave, West Valley City; Duane D. (Suzie) Arave, Hooper; Roger B. (Kim) Arave, Eden; daughters, Ranee Johnson, Hooper; Janet (Ed) King, Gunpowder, MD: 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sherma Kennedy, Logan; and Louise (Bill) Huish, Orem; sister-in-law, Janice Arave, Charlottesville, VA; and step-mother, Marian Cox Arave, Hooper; the gang from Hooper and many other close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Calvin and Carl, a son, Dale G. Arave and a great-granddaughter, Sara Young. Beus, Glenn Glenn Sterling Beus PLAIN CITY - Glenn Sterling Beus, 39, passed away at his home Saturday evening, May 7, 2005 surrounded by his family to return home to his Heavenly Father. He fought a fierce battle against colon cancer. He was big, bold and brought so much happiness to those around him with his grin. We will sorely miss him and his goodness. He was born October 19, 1965 in Ogden, Utah, the son of John and Fay Hadley Beus. He married Leslie Jean Petersen June 7, 1989 in the Logan LDS Temple. Glenn was a member of the Poplar LDS Ward. He served an LDS Mission to Denmark Copenhagen. He also served as a Scoutmaster, Cub master, Stake Young Men's Presidency and Sunday School Teacher. He loved to serve, especially the youth. Glenn was employed by L-3 Communications in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his wife Leslie, children: James Glenn Beus, Seth Petersen Beus and Eli John Beus, his parents John and Fay Beus and numerous nieces and nephews. Buckmiller, Kenneth Grant Kenneth Grant Buckmiller 1956 - 2005 Following a sudden accident on Saturday, April 30, 2005, Kenneth Grant Buckmiller completed his valiant mission here on earth. Ken was born September 30, 1956 in SLC, Utah to Richard Grant Buckmiller and Christel Doris Noss. He graduated from South High School and served an LDS Mission in Louisville, KY. Upon returning he fell in love with Jill Elaine Adamson. They were married August 23, 1978 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1985 in Physical Therapy and after working for IHC he started his own clinic, Northern Physical Therapy Services. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings including his service as Bishop and on High Council. He was an avid Utah fan and loved cycling, but his greatest joy was his family. He left a divine legacy and will be deeply missed by his adored wife of 26 years, Jill Adamson Buckmiller; his children, Jacob (Regi na) Buckmiller, Kristen (Ryan) Healey, and Erik Buckmiller; his brother, Ron (Lisa) Buckmiller; his sister, Sarah (Peter) Torres; his father, Robert Sandberg, his grandchildren, Samuel Buckmiller, Brigham Healey, and Grant Buckmiller, and numerous family members and friends. He was born April 27, 1932 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Wilford and Cleva Haydenfelt Bullock. He married Myrna Joyce Child November 22, 1952. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking with his family. He loved creating things with his hands. Burt, Ethel Child Ethel Child Burt CEDAR CITY - Ethel Child Burt, age 90, passed away on May 9, 2005 at the home of her son in Cedar City, UT. She was born May 17, 1914 in Riverdale, UT to Joseph W. Child and Cora Waldron Child., the eldest of one sister and three brothers. She married John E. Burt, Jr. on December 2l, 1932 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were the parents of two boys. Ethel spent her childhood in Morgan and Weber Counties. She was educated in the Weber County schools where she was very popular among her many friends and schoolmates. She lived in many places during her married life, following John whenever possible while he served in the U S Navy. After the war she lived in Logan, Salt Lake City, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and retired in Springville, UT in 1972. John passed away on July 16, 1991, and she moved to St. George in 1992. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family, an active member of the LDS Church and served a stake mission in Washington. She is survived by sons Jack W. Burt, St. George, and Michael Burt (Sherry), Cedar City; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother Eldon Child, St. George. So I want you to think of it this way - we are having another family camp out. Dad, Lois and I have gone ahead to find a nice camping spot. The road is straight but there are some rough spots. Do not turn off the main road. At the end of the road you'll find a bend, take it slow - for Dad, Lois and I will be waiting for you on the other side. Just remember, we are not dead, we've just gone camping. Leona Jacobson Hill Durant, 84, eldest daughter of James Hubert and Mamie June Jarvis Jacobson died on Mothers Day, May 8. She was born October 17, 1920 in the family home in Bloomington, ID. She graduated from Fielding High School in Paris, ID and Excelsis Beauty School. She Married William S. Hill April 6, 1940. He died in 1945 in the South Pacific during WWII. From this marriage, she had two children, Stanley H.(Sandra) Hill and Ba rbara Stromberg Beveridge Hill. She then married Ray Elmer Durant August 10, 1946 in Grand Rapids, MN. He died May 3, 1999. Of this marriage one child was born, Lois June (Danny) Roth. She was preceded in death by her husbands Bill and Ray, her daughter Lois June, her parents, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by two children, 12 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Hall, Edna Ione Edna Ione Hall OGDEN - Edna Ione Hall died peacefully at her home in Ogden, Utah on Sunday, May 1, 2005. Ione, as she was known to her friends, was born May 25, 1921 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, daughter of Lawrence E. and Edna M. Elliott. She spent her childhood years in Santa Fe and Roswell, New Mexico, graduating from Roswell High School in 1940. She attended the University of Oklahoma until her studies were interrupted by World War II and marriage to the love of her life, Ora R. (Dick) Hall, Jr. They were married January 1, 1942 and celebrated 54 years together as partners, parents and friends until his death in 1996. Following the war, she and her husband founded and managed the Federal Abstract Company of Santa Fe, New Mexico. They continued as partners in a variety of business ventures in Roswell, New Mexico from 1958 to 1970, when they "retired" to Ogden, Utah. In Ogden, they pursued additional business endeavors through the establishment of Elliott-Hall Company with their childre n as partners. Over the years, Ione and Dick maintained homes near Vallecitos, New Mexico; Litchfield Park, Arizona; Jackson, Wyoming; and Island Park, Idaho where they enjoyed their passions for golf, bridge, fishing, cooking, gardening, horse racing, savoring the wonders of nature and sharing good times with family and friends. A gifted cook, Ione could put a delicious meal on the table on short notice for all who happened to gather. Ione raised her children in the Episcopal faith and volunteered much support to St. Andrew's Church in Roswell, New Mexico, Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden, Utah and St. Peter's Church in Litchfield Park, Arizona. She instilled in her children values of tolerance, patience, acceptance and generosity of spirit, and she encouraged them to choose to march to the sound of their own drummer. Aside from her own children, throughout her life she thoughtfully mentored teenagers and adults too numerous to count, earning their trust and easing their burdens wit h wry humor, a quieting voice and timeless wisdom. She shared with her children and grandchildren a deep love of animals of all kinds, but especially horses, dogs and cats. Ione lived a life of community and civic service. From Cub Scouts to Girl Scouts, library boards to public arts organizations, she was always willing to volunteer her time and talents. As secretary of the Pecos Valley Horseman's Association she was the heart and soul of horse shows and rodeos for many years. She often served as a volunteer election judge and was proud to have voted in every election since 1942. She is survived by three children: Mary Ann Miller (Ken) of West Haven, Utah; Patricia Ione Weckel (Billy) of Deming, New Mexico; and George Elliott Hall (Mary) of Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Elizabeth June Fry of Pleasant View, Utah, and a son, Lawrence Jackson Hall of Austin, Texas. He also owned a brokerage firm in the trucking industry. Art married Vicky Goins in 1981. Together they raised two children, Keri Goins Robbins and Matt (Laura) Goins. Later they were divorced and remained good friends. Calvin was raised in Roy and had lived in the area all of his life. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Calvin had been married and divorced twice. He had been employed as a truck driver for Geneva Rock. He loved golfing, fishing, skiing and motorcycle riding. He is survived by his father, Calvin B. She was a Sterling Scholar in Foreign Language. Meghan was a junior at USU majoring in Math education. Meghan was one of Heavenly Father's choice daughters who touched the lives of all she met. Her closeness to and love for the Savior was felt by all who knew her. Those who prove faithful shall inherit the kingdom of God and their joy shall be full forever. Meghan has earned that reward. Saale, Audrey N. Audrey N. Saale Audrey Nielsen Saale, 78, passed away peacefully from complications of diabetes in Vancouver, Washington, surrounded by family members on Friday, April 29, 2005. Audrey was born February 8, 1927 in College Ward, Utah, to James Wilford Nielsen and Olive Vern (Jensen) Nielsen. Her mother died in 1932, when Audrey was four years old. Her father later married Lavanda Peterson. Audrey was married to Louis Joseph Saale on March 31, 1945. She spent most of her life in Utah. After her husband's death in August 2002, Audrey moved to Vancouver, Washington to live her remaining years near her daughters and grandchildren. She loved her new home, and enjoyed many happy hours with her daughters, her favorite nephew, Paul, and her cat, Casinova. She made friends in Washington, and was loved by all who knew her. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepmother, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Elsie Foster (Omaha, NE) and Zelda Nielsen ( Benicia, CA); three daughters, Madeline Rice (Portland, OR); Margaret Anderson (Vancouver, WA); and Marlene Hawkins (Estacada, OR); eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Thorsted, Edward LTC Army (Ret) Edward Laurence Thorsted LTC Army (Ret) Edward Laurence Thorsted passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, at his home in Ogden, Utah of an illness incident to age. He was born on September 14, 1918 to Otto L. Thorsted and Edith Gullikson Thorsted. The oldest of five sons, Edward was raised at 472 2nd Street, Ogden, Utah (Five Points). He attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1936. He worked at Wangsgards Grocery Store until August 1941 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1942. He served in North Africa, and the European theater during World War II and returned home in 1945 marrying his sweetheart, Lois Toombs of Brigham City, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple that same year. He was recalled to active duty in 1955 and retired as a Lt. Colonel after returning from Vietnam in 1965, having served 24 1/2 years on active duty. He was appointed the Director of the Junior ROTC program for Ogden City Schools in 1967 where he served for nineteen wonderful years working with the youth at Ben Lomond and Ogden High Schools. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at Weber State College along with his teaching certificate. He learned his Masters in Education as well as finishing all academic requirements for his Doctorate in Education from Brigham Young University. His military awards include the combat infantry badge (with star), Bronze star, the Army Commendation medal (2 oak leaves) and many other service medals. He was a registered Scouter for thirty-four years filling top staff positions in the Bonneville and Trapper Trail Councils. He received the award of merit and the National Silver Beaver. His parents, his wife Lois, and one son, Harold Scott, preceded him in death. His two sons Edward Craig Thorsted, and Stephen Laurence (Lynnette Parr) Thorsted both live in the Ogden area. (North) Trease, 81, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2005 at the Brigham City Nursing Center. She was born June 24, 1924 to Joseph and Hazel Pulsipher North in Brigham City. She married James H. Trease September 8, 1942 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on February 24, 1990. Marjorie graduated from Box Elder High School in 1941. She was a waitress for 40 years at the Ringside and Pheasant Cafes in Brigham City and the Cross X in Tremonton. She loved to square dance and belonged to the V.F.W. She is survived by one daughter, Margie Lynn Povlov, and one grandson, Konstantine Povlov both of Colorado; one brother Rex North, Ogden; four sisters, Ruby Clawson, Syracuse, Helen Behnke, Great Falls, Montana, Wonda Bodily, Layton, JoAnn Bagshaw, Salt Lake City; two brothers-in-law, John Trease, Hooper and Floyd Trease, Buhl, Idaho, four sisters-in-law, Larene North, Brigham City, Norma North, Willard, Renea North, Grantsville and Grace Price, Payson. She is preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Robert, Donald, and Clifford North and one sister Nadine Conger. Marjorie was a loving and caring person and loved and tended many nieces, nephews and neighborhood children throughout her years. She opened her home to special nephews (Kent and Harry Trease) that spent a number of years living with Marge and Jim. She was called "Grandma" by all. She will be missed and was loved by all she came in contact with. Wagner, Thomas Frank Thomas Frank Wagner LAYTON - Thomas Frank Wagner slipped peacefully into heaven at his home on Saturday, May 7, 2005, after a courageous two-month battle with cancer. Tom was born August 29, 1917, in Frackville, Pennsylvania to Theodore and Mary Brosius Wagner. He graduated from Frackville High School in 1939. Tom joined the Army Air Corps August 8, 1942 in Allentown, PA. During WWII he was stationed in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was honorably discharged, February 28, 1946. After completing his military service, he became a volunteer fireman for the Good Will Hose House in Frackville, PA. He was a life-long member of that organization. Tom married Ann Patrick in Frackville, PA at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church on July 16, 1950. Tom worked at Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown, Pennsylvania until he was transferred to Hill Air Force Base in 1965. He completed a 42-year career as an aircraft mechanic. He never used even one day of sick leave in all of that time. As a young man, Tom loved to play sports. He especially loved baseball, football and basketball. He passed this love on to his three grandsons; Nathan, Justin, and Drew as well as his left-handedness. He loved to travel, enjoyed all types of woodworking, especially creating beautiful wooden clocks. His nickname was Chick because of his striking blonde hair he had as a young man. Tom was impeccably honest and had such a tender heart. No matter where he went, he knew how to make people laugh and always cared about every person he met. Tom knew how to love and was loved by everyone. He was the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ever hope for and always put the needs and cares of his family above his own. Tom is survived by his wife and loving companion of 55 years, Ann; his daughter Ann (Rusty) Bayles, Green River, WY; three grandchildren, Nathan, Justin and Drew Bayles. Also surviving is one sister, Esther Slojsorsky of Florida. Tom was preceded in death b y his infant son, Thomas, parents Theodore and Mary Brosius Wagner and his brothers and sisters; Theodore (Ted), George, Lill, Wilbur Wagner, Mag Mulligan and Bill Wagner. The family would like to thank LifePath Hospice & Family care - especially Anabeth, Carlene, Kathryn and Jolene for their loving care and support of Tom during his illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
