Powell Cruz, 67, of Clinton passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. She was born June 11, 1937, the daughter of George and Hazel Lavon Hiner Powell. On April 10, 1980 she married Richard R. Cruz in Ogden. She was raised and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ben Lomond High School. She worked and retired after 37 years of service at Hill Air Force Base. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, and the Dallas Cowboys. Mrs. Cruz is survived by her husband Richard R. Cruz of Clinton; Also surviving are one sister, Lavon McNally, Logan, Utah; and three brothers Richard Powell, Wyoming; James and Edward Powell, both of Ogden. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and four sisters; Lois Kouatch, Wyoming; Deanie Smith, Ohio, Nita McCalmant, Ogden and Hazel Udink, Roy. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. Day, Erik Kenneth Erik Kenneth Day PLEASANT VIEW - Erik Kenneth Day, 20, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 Erik was born February 20, 1985 and adopted by David and Cynthia (Johnson) Day. He attended Weber High School and graduated from the Weber Basin Job Corps. He enjoyed music, poetry and basketball. He was a computer whiz and had a knack for making his sisters laugh. Erik is survived by his parents; a brother, Andy Day; three sisters, Mariah, Olivia and Carolyn Day all of Pleasant View.; and his grandparents, Ken (Ruth) Johnson of Castle Valley, UT and Norma Day of Moab, UT. Also surviving is a special friend, Elizabeth Teters of Ogden and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Max Day. Our loving son, brother, father and friend was born August 17, 1959 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Neil C. and Joanne F. Swift Dodge. Ronnie graduated from Bonneville High School in 1978 and attended Weber State College, earning an Associates Degree in auto mechanics. He joined the Army in June 1978 to serve his Country. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1982. Ronnie was a friend to everyone he met. He was an avid mechanic. He loved to fix old cars, hunt, fish, trap shoot and camping. He loved spending time with his son. Ronnie had a true faith in God and always kept him in his heart. He leaves behind his parents Neil and Joanne Dodge, West Haven; one son Daniel Dodge, Ogden; one brother Keith Dodge, Ogden; two sisters Dawnette Rust (Shane) Hooper; Shelley Cowperthwaite (Rob) West Haven; nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents a nd two aunts. We would like to tell you how much we love you and we hope you know that we do. We wish that the words we speak, so gently to you could be heard by your heart with the same meanings and same soft feelings deep within us. We love you brother and we are going to miss you. Garcia LAYTON - Our beautiful mother, sister, and grandmother passed away May 19, 2005 at her home after battling cancer. She was born Maria Lucinda Martinez, February 8, 1942 in Del Norte, Colorado to Ben and Andrea Martinez. The family moved to Utah when she was one year old. She graduated from Davis High School. She lived in Layton for the past 34 years. She married Lester Del Rio in 1960 and they had six beautiful children together. Her husband and three sons, Eugene, Leonard, and Eddie were killed in a car accident, April 25, 1971. She married Pete Garcia. They later divorced. Maria (Tootsie) enjoyed being with her brothers and sisters playing cards, scrabble, and having a good time. She cherished her children and attended every PTA meeting, soccer, football, baseball, basketball game and every dance recital. She loved her grandchildren very much and always made sure the kids were together for Christmas. She worked at Kraft Foods and recently retired from Autoliv w here she had numerous friends. Surviving are her three sons Charles Del Rio, Ogden; Dino Del Rio, Layton; Darren Del Rio, Layton; and daughter Valerie Del Rio (Rolando Rueda), Roy; 11 grand children and 4 great grand children. Also surviving are her brothers Val Martinez, CA; Arthur Martinez, Roy; Alfonso Martinez, Layton; sisters Jenny Montoya, Clearfield; Inez Cota, Dorothy Sosa, Kathern Gallegos, Rosie Martinez, and Josephine Martinez, Ogden. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Lester, sons Eugene, Leonard, and Eddie, brothers Felix, Benny, Richard and sisters Martha, Betty and Susie. Griffiths, Suzanne Tucker Suzanne Tucker Griffiths KAYSVILLE - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Suzanne Tucker Griffiths, age 58, passed away May 19, 2005 in Kaysville, Utah after a brave and determined battle with colon cancer. She was born May 7, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third child of Cleon D. and Betty Jensen Tucker. She lived in many different parts of Utah including Bountiful, Hyrum, and Kaysville. She graduated from Skyview High School in the first graduating class. She married Brent H. Griffiths on May 20, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. Suzanne loved serving others and being with her family. She enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling with her husband and family. Some of her favorite places included Hawaii and the family cabin in Wyoming. She made the best hand dipped chocolates with her mother and she made any family party an event. She was a wonderful, caring wife and mother and a super grandmother. She was always concerned about her family and she loved them all very much. As a faithful, lifelong member of the LDS Church, she served in various callings including Relief Society President, Young Womens President and Primary President. She also served for many years as a docent at the Church Museum of History and Art where she was able to share her love of art and the gospel with others. Suzanne is survived by her husband Brent; four children, Julie (Alan) Clark, Alan (Heidi) Griffiths, Brian (Renee) Griffiths, Carrie Griffiths and her ten grandchildren, Jordan, McKenna, Tyson, Zachary, Alexa, Ryan, Tyler, Justin, Brianne and Allison. She is also survived by her parents, in-laws, four brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by her brother and grandparents. We will miss you Suzie. Can you smell the ginger? Nielsen, Clara May Nash Clara May Nash Jesperson NielsenClara May Nash Jesperson Nielsen, 92, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on May 16, 2005. May was born on a dry farm outside of Aberdeen, Idaho, May 23, 1912 to Albert Theodore Nash and Clara Derbyshire. She was married to William L. Jesperson on May 1933, and to Lester H. Nielsen on April 1975 (both deceased). She was dedicated in all she did for her family and church, including returning to college at the age of 45, getting her English degree from San Diego State University to teach school, and serving two missions, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with her second husband. She did everything the Lord asked of her and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Surviving her are nine children, four stepchildren, 69 grandchildren, 130 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Phillips, Hugo Walter Hugo Walter PhillipsROY - Hugo Walter Phillips passed away at his home, Friday, May 20, 2005. He was born February 11, 1934 in Camden, New Jersey, the son of Andrew and Justine Phillips. Hugo attended Catholic schools in Camden prior to joining the Air Force in 1951. He served in Korea; was honorably discharged in 1955. Hugo married Rheta Paul in Great Falls, Montana on October 15, 1955. They lived in New Jersey and Montana prior to moving to Utah in 1965. Hugo worked as an aircraft mechanic at HAFB, retiring in 1983. He was a substitute teacher at the woodshop at Roy High School. He also worked for Northern Regal Homes Construction. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and all kinds of wood work. Hugo was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was very proud of his family. Surviving are his wife, Rheta; children: Vickie Lee Jorgensen of Roy, Richard (Barbara) Phillips, West Weber, Ed (Lori) Phillips, Clinton, and Toby Phillips of Clarkston, UT; grandchildren: Cather ine J. Jorgensen (currently of Ft. Bliss, TX), Paul Jorgensen, Cliff (Bubba) Phillips, Trevor, Carly, Jonathan Phillips, Jessie Russell, and Marshall Russell, USMC; a brother, Robert (Kathy) Phillips, and two sisters, Marie Erdenski and Linda Gruber, and many nieces and nephews all of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David Perry Phillips and a grandson, Nathan Richard Phillips. Deepest gratitude to Dr. Richard Herold for many years of dedicated care and constant loving support.
