Phil was born in Logan, Utah on May 9, 1936 to Philip Henry and Evelyn Woodbury Barkdull, the youngest of four children. He grew up in Logan and attended Logan Schools. After being honorably discharged from he Army in 1961, he made his home in Ogden, Utah. He loved fishing and hunting, his airboat and his dog Cody. The real love of his life were his two daughters and his grandchildren. He was at peace in his airboat running around the wetlands. He was a devoted member of the Utah Air Boat Association, Inc., where he served in the presidency and was a member for many years. He was always there to assist other members when they needed help. He will be truly missed by those he loved and those that loved him. His daughters Barbara (Brad) Johnson of Smithfield, and Nicole Barkdull of Ogden. Grandchildren Bradley, Terry, Charli-Ann and Cali, and of course his faithful companion Cody and many nephews, nieces and friends. He left this life and his love of the wetlands; but to the wetlands he will return on June 4, 2005, on his last run. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother and father, brothers Dallen and Farrell, and his sister Dalma and her husband DeWayne Fuhriman. Crawford, Phyllis Gailer Phyllis Gailey Crawford ROY - Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma and friend, Phyllis Gailey Crawford, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday, May 21, 2005, at McKay-Dee Hospital from a short, brave battle with cancer. She was born March 4, 1924, in Ogden, Utah, to Liza Dyson and Francis Gailey. She was the oldest of seven children, brothers, James M. Gailey, Frank A. Gailey, and David K. Gailey, sisters, Marilyn Beezer, Lola Gallegos and Elaine Burch. She grew up in Ogden and Hooper, Utah. Her working career began at the railroad and cannery finishing with retirement from Hill Air Force Base packing department. She played softball for many years at HAFB and won a swimsuit competition there also. Mom loved playing bingo on Monday and Friday nights at the Alano and going to Wendover. Her favorite break was the Silverado Cafe in Roy. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 49 1/2 years, Harry; her children Tonya Hammer (Shawn Byrne), and Harry (Karen) Crawford; grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica, Brad, Tara, Sara, Sierra, Jonathan, Heidi, Deloy and Justin; great-grandchildren, Curstee, Amanda, Keirsey and Ty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Mary Greenwell, sister, Lola Gallegos and son-in-law, Curtis Hammer. Gibson, Stephanie Van Dame Stephanie Kathryn Van Dame Gibson WEST HAVEN - Stephanie Kathryn Van Dame Gibson, 56, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, very peacefully at her home after a courageous six-year battle with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. She was born March 16, 1949, in Ogden, Utah a daughter of Howard James and Bernice Taggart Van Dame. She married Dee Garth Gibson on April 15, 1970, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a life long resident of the Roy area, graduating from Roy High School. She worked for the Weber County Schools as a teacher's aid and a Title One Aid for 19 years at Country View and Valley View Elementary Schools. Stephanie was an active member of the LDS Rocky Mountain Ward. She held various positions in the church over her lifetime. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a very active member of the P.T.A. for many years as her children were growing up. She enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking and card making. She loved to spend time with her family, gr andchildren and loved ones. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, Garth; her daughter, Melissa Gibson, West Haven; three sons, Van and Kendra Gibson, Roy; Joshua and Mackenzie Gibson, Plain City; and Matthew and Linda Gibson, Roy; five grandchildren, Taylor, Madelyn, Aspen, Dakota and Claire; her father-in-law, Clyde Gibson; her sister, Monette Van Dame, Mesa, Arizona; four nieces and three nephews also survive her. Her mother and father preceded her in death. The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of the LDS Hospital Respiratory ICU also to the aides and nurses of IHC Hospice for their help and kindness. Harrop died at his home, May 21, 2005. He was born April 4, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Walter and Veda Stevenson Harrop. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1942. Ray served his country as a Sgt. With the 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, participating in five major campaign battles in Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and his company was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He married Fern Wheelwright in the Salt Lake Temple on May 7, 1947. She passed away November 21, 1993. Ray graduated from Weber College and Utah State University. He taught school for ten years in the Weber County School District. He then started his own accounting business, retiring in 1986. He served as President of the Executives Association of Ogden. Ray loved to golf and bowl. He won the Ogden Men's Bowling Singles Championship 1966-67. He and Fern served a mission for the LDS Church in the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Mission. He married Patricia Be nnett in the Ogden Temple February 18, 1995. They served a mission in the Honolulu Hawaii Mission 1995-1997. They were later divorced. Ray was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in several capacities. Ray is survived by two children, Marsha (Spencer) Smith, Ogden, UT and Thomas R. (Diane) Harrop, Golden, CO., eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Fern, his parents, one sister and two brothers. She was born March 30, 1914 in Bothwell, Utah, the daughter of Fredrich and Katharina Kupfer Deininger. She married LeRoy E. Malan on September 30, 1933 in Malad, Idaho. LeRoy passed October 1, 1964. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rose worked at McKay-Dee Hospital for 20 years. She loved to garden, bowl and play bingo. She was a member of the S.P. Old Timers. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor. Surviving are her children: Marilyn M. (Ernest) Wilson and Fred Malan, six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Maynes, Alden Despain Alden Despain Maynes1920 - 2005 KAYSVILLE, Utah - Alden Despain Maynes, 84, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away at the Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona on May 21, 2005. He was born December 21, 1920 in Butlerville, Utah to John Alexander Maynes and Louretta Despain Maynes, the fifth child in a family of ten children. He graduated from Jordan High School, and in 1939 joined the Army Air Corp. He married June Kitchen on September 21, 1942 and they raised a family of four children. She passed away on September 8, 1996. Alden was a decorated World War II veteran. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and was shot down over Berlin and spent a year in Germany as a prisoner of war. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. After the war he became a general contractor for many years and then went to work at Hill Field until he retired. After retirement, he and June spent their winters in Quartzsite, Arizona. He loved camping, fishing, traveling and was an accomplishe d wood carver. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in various callings. Alden married Colleen Davies on July 21, 2001 and they have resided in Kaysville, Utah and Quartzsite, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Colleen: children, Steven (Marsha); Cherie (Forrest) Bitter; Gregory; David (Paula) Dickerson; Linda (John) Boyer; Connie (Scott) Bush; Karen Clark; Steven (Pam) Dickerson; Joyce (Don) Archuleta; Larry (LeAnn) Dickerson; Richard Dickerson; brothers William (Connie, deceased); Gaylen (Shirley); Fredrick (Colleen): sisters Marna (Lloyd) McGee; Mary (Leroy) Jones: 37 grandchildren: 30 great-grandchildren. McFarland, Keith Reid Keith Reid McFarlandKeith Reid McFarland, 55, died May 8, 2005 of a massive cerebral hemorrhage at Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City, CA. Reid was born July 15, 1949 in Ogden, UT to Keith Ray and Eleanor Weddell McFarland. His parents later divorced. When his father re-married, his wife Ida H. McFarland legally adopted his children. They also later divorced. Reid attended Polk Elementary and Mount Ogden Middle School until he left Ogden to reside with his father and a new wife in Reno, NV. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He received an honorable discharge. Reid met and loved Mary Smith. They were wed August 17, 1971. They became the parents of two sons, Brian and Kevin Todd. They were later divorced. Reid had chosen to be an organ donor and three people benefited from his gift of both kidneys and his liver. Cremation was taken care of by Oak Hill Funeral Home, San Jose, CA. At a later date services, military honors and interment will take place in San Jose. He leaves behind his mother, Ida H. McFarland, Ogden; his stepmother, Esther McFarland and her daughter Pam (Roberto) Crawford of Reno, NV; his sons, Brian McFarland, San Jose and Todd (Alissa) McFarland and a grandchild expected in July, of Fresno, CA. His sister, Gloria Harvey, Ogden, Kay (Dennis) Walker, Trenton, UT and Fran Lund (fiance Gordon Burke), Ogden and his brother, Michael (Sally) McFarland, Ogden. A memorial service will be held in the Foothills Ward, 1475 Cahoon for his Utah relatives and friends with Bishop Michael R. McFarland officiating. Letha was born May 30, 1914, at Ogden, Utah a daughter of Elias Call and Lola LaVern Dean Call. She attended schools in the Ogden Area graduating from Ogden High School. She married John C. McGrath Sr., February 29, 1964 in Juarez, Mexico. She spent her married life in Santa Barbara, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked with her husband in various business enterprises. She is survived by her husband John G. McGrath of Rigby; three daughters, Peggy (George) Vatter of Lake Ronkonkoma, New York; Kathy (Robert) Wensch of New York, New York and Mary (Jim) McCaffery of New York, New York; three sons, John G. (Marsha) McGrath Jr. of Rigby; Michael McGrath of Las Vegas, Nevada and Peter (Linda) McGrath of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters, Lola Devereau and Venneta (Jack) Russel, both of Roy, Utah; 23 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Miller, Patricia Ann Isbell Patricia Ann Isbell Miller SUN CITY, Arizona - Patricia Ann Isbell Miller was born November 18, 1940 to Mack and Emma Floyd in Dixie, Arkansas. She passed away May 18, 2005 in Sun City, Arizona after a very long illness. She had moved to Arizona in an attempt to regain her health. She married Richard Dick Isbell in California and had two sons, Robert Bob and David. Dick passed away October 7, 1994 after they had moved to Utah; their youngest son, David, passed away on July 9, 2000; both are interred in Roy City Cemetery. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Sam D. Floyd, of Roy Utah. Patricia later married Richard Miller in Sun City, Arizona on July 5, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Sun City, AZ; a son, Bob, and two grandchildren, Jeanne and Christen all of Glendale, AZ; two sisters, Carol (Mike) Kelly, Vancouver, WA, and Donna (Ralph) Claxton, Ogden; as well as many nieces and nephews. Petersen, Betty Jean Betty Jean Petersen 1923 - 2005 Betty Jean (BJ) Petersen passed away unexpectedly May 22, 2005 after a series of major health problems. Betty was born December 20, 1923 in Fielding, Utah to Noble Rasmus and Donetta Hansen Petersen, the second of seven children. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during World War II. With the help of the GI Bill, she completed a BS in Business at Utah State University. She began her teaching career in Sugar City, Idaho, but after only two years she accepted a mission call to Oslo, Norway. After her mission, she returned to teaching in Parowan and then began teaching within the Church Education System, first at Ricks College and then at BYU. During these years, she earned her Masters Degree and a Doctorate from Columbia University in New York City. After returning to BYU, she taught for 24 years in the School of Management, teaching business and information management. While attending Columbi a, Betty had many wonderful experiences. From those experiences she became an avid patron of the arts. This grew into annual excursions to the Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City with her sisters and nieces, many plays at Pioneer Theater Company, and volunteer work at the BYU Museum of Art. Her service included many church and Temple callings. She worked at the Provo Temple for many years, and also worked in the BYU Family History Center. One of her favorite projects lately was making teddy bears with her neighbors for abused children. Betty is survived by a very large and loving family. J. OGDEN - Jacob Smith Jr. was born November 26, 1913 in Ogden, Utah to Jacob Sr. and Feye Boekweg Smit. Jake passed away on May 20, 2005 of natural causes at the age of 91. He married Zola Sypher on October 9, 1940. They spent 62 years together. Jake spent many years supervising masonry and construction. A master mason by trade, he took great pride and satisfaction in performing quality work. Business leaders recognized him as the best in his trade. Beaver Creek, the old Eden Canal, and Howell Valley were among his favorite hunting and fishing spots. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister. He is survived by three sons: C. Brent (Bev) of Deer Lodge, Montana; Mont J. (Julee) of No. Ogden; and M. Craig of Ogden. He has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Thurmond, 72, died Friday morning May 20, 2005 at his summer cabin in Island Park, Idaho. He was born January 3, 1933 in Salt Lake City, a son of Byron Francis and Stella Fullmer Thurmond. His family moved to Ogden in 1935 where he grew up and graduated from Ogden High School. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1953 becoming successful in Real Estate and business ventures, opening the Rainbow Club in Henderson, Nevada. He shared his love of fishing and hunting with his family and many valued friends. Later in life he married his childhood sweetheart, Jacqueline Marie Linton, and shared many happy times. Richard created The Thurmond Family Endowment at B.Y.U. in honor of his parents, which created perpetual funds for scholarships. Surviving are his wife of Henderson, NV; two sons, Les Elmo (Jeanie) Thurmond, Victor, ID; Gary Lynn (Susan) Thurmond, Henderson, NV; three daughters, Debbie Dixon, Portland, OR; Traci (Richard) Landig, He nderson, NV; Mandy Farmer, Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren, Skylar Henry, Racquel Landig, Drake Landig, Nicole Davey and Brandon Davey. She married Victor Waddoups in 1946. He passed away in December of 1981. Winchester on July 23, 1999 in Farmington, Utah. Lisa was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Youngwomens Organization. She had lived in Taylor, Roy, West Weber and South Weber. Lisa was a soccer coach for many years, Co-ed Softball, Girl Scouts for 12 years, Choir and National Honor Roll at Weber High School. Surviving is her husband, Troy Winchester, children: Chris, Marcee and Chelcee Judkins, father Glen Judkins and brother Russ (Loree) Judkins. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Marie Judkins. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 1 p.m at the Pioneer Ward, 6660 South 1775 East, Uintah with Bishop Lynn Poll officiating. Friends and family may call on Wednesday at Myers M ortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services.
