John W. BoyceOGDEN - John William Boyce, 75, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at his home following an extended illness with cancer. John was born June 22, 1929 in Ogden, Utah, the son of John Harold and Julia Johnson Boyce. He was a lifelong resident of Ogden. As a young man he worked for Consolidated Freightways. He also worked for Swift Meat Packing Company until the plant closed. He then worked at Hill Air Force Base, Lindquist Mortuaries, and for the State of Utah as a meat inspector. John married the love of his life, Rhea June Kranendonk, on November 1, 1947. Together they were blessed with three children. John had many talents: he could fix or repair most anything and do it in a most professional manner. He was an excellent hunter and fisherman, always getting his limit. He loved to bowl and had several 300 games to his credit. He enjoyed yardwork and kept a beautiful yard, it was like a well manicured park. Deer were seen frequently in his yard and a few other wild animals as wel l. John loved his neighbors and they loved him. He was always available when someone needed assistance. His expertise in home repair was constantly needed. Surviving are his children, John H. (Susan) Boyce, Roy, UT; Kim (Pamela) Boyce, Mountain View, CA; a former daughter-in-law, Susan B. Boyce (Vernieuw), 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Evelyn M. Bergeron, Dubuque, IA; Maxine (Jack) Young, Ogden; Blanche L. Lundberg, Spokane, WA; Althea (Jerry) Ranson, Layton. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rhea, daughter Vicki Boyce Pulsipher, his parents and three sisters, Lillian (George) Bleichert, Gladys (Guy) Thomas, Vivian (Jean) Morrison, and two step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Forest Green Ward Chapel, 1401 Country Hills Drive, with Bishop Jeffrey Booth officiating. Clukey, Robert Paul Robert (Bob) Clukey Robert Paul Clukey, loving husband, father and grandfather, 73, died Saturday, May 21st. He was born Feb. 22, 1933 in Bangor, Maine, the son of George Francis and Francis Ethel LeClair Clukey. He married Katherine Petersen on Dec. 30th, 1988 in Ogden, UT. Bob lived in Boston, Mass. and Ogden, UT. He was a member of the Catholic church. He served 28 years as a marine in the military, and retired from Ogden Defense Depot. He worked part time at Weber County Human Services. Bob enjoyed cookouts with his family and raising his two pugs, Pepe and Emmett. He loved his family unconditionally and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Katherine, three sons and seven daughters, Mike (Tammy) Stark, Larry (Louella) Stark, Terry (Dale) Petersen, Diane (Brent) Hadley, Jeanie (Mike) Straight, Sandy Gillespie, Kathy (Bill) Storey, Karen Stevenson and Sharon Bracken, Susie (Richard) Cottrell. Gibson, Stephanie Van Dame Stephanie Kathryn Van Dame Gibson WEST HAVEN - Stephanie Kathryn Van Dame Gibson, 56, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, very peacefully at her home after a courageous six-year battle with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. She was born March 16, 1949, in Ogden, Utah a daughter of Howard James and Bernice Taggart Van Dame. She married Dee Garth Gibson on April 15, 1970, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a life long resident of the Roy area, graduating from Roy High School. She worked for the Weber County Schools as a teacher's aid and a Title One Aid for 19 years at Country View and Valley View Elementary Schools. Stephanie was an active member of the LDS Rocky Mountain Ward. She held various positions in the church over her lifetime. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a very active member of the P.T.A. for many years as her children were growing up. She enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking and card making. She loved to spend time with her family, gr andchildren and loved ones. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, Garth; her daughter, Melissa Gibson, West Haven; three sons, Van and Kendra Gibson, Roy; Joshua and Mackenzie Gibson, Plain City; and Matthew and Linda Gibson, Roy; five grandchildren, Taylor, Madelyn, Aspen, Dakota and Claire; her father-in-law, Clyde Gibson; her sister, Monette Van Dame, Mesa, Arizona; four nieces and three nephews also survive her. Her mother and father preceded her in death. The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of the LDS Hospital Respiratory ICU also to the aides and nurses of IHC Hospice for their help and kindness. Harrop died at his home, May 21, 2005. He was born April 4, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Walter and Veda Stevenson Harrop. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1942. Ray served his country as a Sgt. With the 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, participating in five major campaign battles in Europe, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, and his company was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He married Fern Wheelwright in the Salt Lake Temple on May 7, 1947. She passed away November 21, 1993. Ray graduated from Weber College and Utah State University. He taught school for ten years in the Weber County School District. He then started his own accounting business, retiring in 1986. He served as President of the Executives Association of Ogden. Ray loved to golf and bowl. He won the Ogden Men's Bowling Singles Championship 1966-67. He and Fern served a mission for the LDS Church in the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Mission. He married Patricia Be nnett in the Ogden Temple February 18, 1995. They served a mission in the Honolulu Hawaii Mission 1995-1997. They were later divorced. Ray was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in several capacities. Ray is survived by two children, Marsha (Spencer) Smith, Ogden, UT and Thomas R. (Diane) Harrop, Golden, CO., eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Fern, his parents, one sister and two brothers. Jones, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away May 22, 2005. Wanda was born September 11, 1918 to William and Janet Watson Oliverson. Wanda Oliverson married Donald C. Jones on January 9, 1937; their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Wanda had many jobs in her life, she drove a taxi during World War II, worked at Hill Field, Defense Depot Ogden, and a doctor's office, but the job she loved most was waitressing, she loved to talk and always had a joke. She taught a waitressing class for many years. She went to Yuma, AZ with Dad for 18 years and she loved to golf and travel. Wanda leaves three children, Dorothy Christiansen, Roger Donald (Diane) Jones, Shanna Dean (George) Fink, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Donald C. Jones; a son-in-law; two brothers, two sisters-in-law; and three grandchildren. (Ret.)OGDEN, Utah - Victor Huyck Kemp, 89, of Ogden, Utah, passed away May 24, 2005 of a lingering illness surrounded by his family. He will always be remembered as a great Dad and loving husband; also for his inquiring mind, many inventions and sense of humor. He was born December 17, 1915, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Harrie T.V. and Catherine Field Kemp. He was raised in Garfield City in Western Salt Lake County. He graduated from South High School as a Lt. Col. in the ROTC. His class voted him most popular student. Victor served in the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands during WW II. He also served a tour of duty in Vietnam and two tours of duty in Germany. He was professor of Military Science at Hofstra College in Long Island, New York. He retired as a Lt. Col. after 29 years of service, after which he was employed by L.H. Strong Volkswagen. While at Strong's he invented a valuable cooling device for the VW Bus for which he won a prestigious award. Other inven tions include the "Teledesk," a sewage device for motor homes, the "Hanging Sam" Closet and other inventions that improved the quality of life. Victor belonged to the Inventor's Society of Utah. He was married to Ruth Parker for 67 exciting, travel-filled years. He was a kind and loving grandfather. To his family he was very generous with his time and talents and was always inquiring about ways he could help his kids and grandkids on their projects for science fairs and other events. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, Julianne Arbuckle (Jim), Victor Michael Kemp (Vicki), Vicki Irene Lowman (Charles), and Thomas H. Kemp (DeAnn). He had over 90 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harrie and Jessie. Malan, 91, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Peachtree Assisted Living. She was born March 30, 1914 in Bothwell, Utah, the daughter of Fredrich and Katharina Kupfer Deininger. She married LeRoy E. Malan on September 30, 1933 in Malad, Idaho. LeRoy passed October 1, 1964. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rose worked at McKay-Dee Hospital for 20 years. She loved to garden, bowl and play bingo. She was a member of the S.P. Old Timers. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor. Surviving are her children: Marilyn M. (Ernest) Wilson and Fred Malan, six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband LeRoy, one grandson, brothers Albert Deininger and Charles Deininger, and sisters Eva Fredrickson, Lola Grover, Christina Anderson and Cecelia Deininger. Miller, Patricia Ann Isbell Patricia Ann Isbell Miller SUN CITY, Arizona - Patricia Ann Isbell Miller was born November 18, 1940 to Mack and Emma Floyd in Dixie, Arkansas. She passed away May 18, 2005 in Sun City, Arizona after a very long illness. She had moved to Arizona in an attempt to regain her health. She married Richard Dick Isbell in California and had two sons, Robert Bob and David. Dick passed away October 7, 1994 after they had moved to Utah; their youngest son, David, passed away on July 9, 2000; both are interred in Roy City Cemetery. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Sam D. Floyd, of Roy Utah. Patricia later married Richard Miller in Sun City, Arizona on July 5, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Sun City, AZ; a son, Bob, and two grandchildren, Jeanne and Christen all of Glendale, AZ; two sisters, Carol (Mike) Kelly, Vancouver, WA, and Donna (Ralph) Claxton, Ogden; as well as many nieces and nephews. Nichol, Larry Edward Larry Edward Nichol Larry Edward Nichol, 57, passed away May 21, 2005 at his home in Mesquite, Nevada. Larry was born to Calvin Bryce and Verna Mae Nichol on October 28, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. Larry was raised in Clearfield, Utah and graduated from Clearfield High School. Larry served his country for four years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Larry worked at Hill Air Force Base as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic for 30 years, retiring in November of 2002. Upon retirement he moved to Mesquite, Nevada where he built his dream home. Throughout out his life Larry was very active in trap shooting, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and off road R.V. riding. He spent much time in the Uinta Mountains, at the family cabin, that his father and he built. Larry always included his friends and their families in his activities. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family. Larry is survived by his parents, Calvin and Verna of Clearfield, UT; by aunts, uncles and cou sins. Shields, Jeffrey R. Jeffrey R. Shields PLAIN CITY - Jeffrey R. Shields, 58, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2005 after a 4-plus year battle with cancer. He was born on September 18, 1946 in Ogden to Rudolph Vernon Shields and Fern Poulsen Shields. Jeff graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a photographer in January 1966 and served in Vietnam. After his enlistment, he worked at the FBI Headquarters Laboratory in Washington, D.C. where he was also assigned to the FBI Director's office as official photographer to J. Edgar Hoover and his successors. While in the position as the FBI director's official photographer, he photographed the President of the United States, the Attorney General and members of Congress. Later, he transferred to the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA and started a Photographic Department in support of the new academy complex when it was finished in 1974. He taught photographic theory and the use of surveillance equipment to new agent training classes. He was the cinematographer on two FBI films and worked on the final editing and production for them at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank, CA. In 1977, Jeff transferred to the Naval Training Center in Orlando, FL and was assigned as a Contracting Officers Technical Representative to several developmental and media production contractors around the United States while being based in Salt Lake City. In 1981, he transferred to the Air Force and managed media production activities at Hill AFB, UT; Robins AFB, GA; the Air Force Intelligence Command at Kelly AFB, TX; and at Randolph AFB, TX. Jeff was a member of technology advisory boards for military and intelligence activities. In August 1973, Jeff married Carolyn Hoffman, who also worked at FBI Headquarters. They divorced after 20 years of marriage and remarried again in 2004. Jeff is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Valmeyer, IL; their daughters, Kathryn Shields of San Marcos, TX and Karen Shields of Austin, TX; a grandson, C.J. Eichenlaub; a brother, Rick (Jenny) Shields of Aloha, OR; and several nieces and nephews. Jeff was a member of the Plain City 2nd LDS Ward where he was a High Priest. Besides the deep love he had for his family, he sincerely loved and appreciated all of his approximately 200 relatives and felt like each one was a special friend. Many of them gave him much help and support during the last days of his life. Thurmond, 72, died Friday morning May 20, 2005 at his summer cabin in Island Park, Idaho. He was born January 3, 1933 in Salt Lake City, a son of Byron Francis and Stella Fullmer Thurmond. His family moved to Ogden in 1935 where he grew up and graduated from Ogden High School. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1953 becoming successful in Real Estate and business ventures, opening the Rainbow Club in Henderson, Nevada. He shared his love of fishing and hunting with his family and many valued friends. Later in life he married his childhood sweetheart, Jacqueline Marie Linton, and shared many happy times. Richard created The Thurmond Family Endowment at B.Y.U. in honor of his parents, which created perpetual funds for scholarships. Surviving are his wife of Henderson, NV; two sons, Les Elmo (Jeanie) Thurmond, Victor, ID; Gary Lynn (Susan) Thurmond, Henderson, NV; three daughters, Debbie Dixon, Portland, OR; Traci (Richard) Landig, He nderson, NV; Mandy Farmer, Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren, Skylar Henry, Racquel Landig, Drake Landig, Nicole Davey and Brandon Davey. Waddoups, Alice C. Alice C. Waddoups RIVERDALE - Alice Guy Waddoups died Sunday, May 22, 2005. She was born to Emery Guy and Minnie Lena Glorfield in Kimberly, Idaho on May 26, 1920. She married Victor Waddoups in 1946. He passed away in December of 1981. She is survived by two sons, Steve (Angie) Waddoups, Guy (Nancy) Waddoups; six grandchildren, Susan, Sheila, Jason, Tyler, Kyle and Seth; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Dorothy VanLeuven, Bonnie Huffman and Don Guy; a very special friend and companion, Bill Hunt, and great neighbors, Dave and Mark. Wallace OGDEN - Maxine Jeanette Lange Wallace, 85, died Saturday, May 21, 2005 in Ogden. She was born October 30, 1919 in Genessee, Idaho, a daughter of Sam and Clara Hanson Lange. Maxine met Austin Wallace in Twin Falls, Idaho where they were both school teachers. They were married June 15, 1942 in Genessee, Idaho. Following their marriage they lived in Burley, Idaho for 18 years. They moved to Ogden where they lived the remainder of their lives. Austin preceded her in death on May 19, 2002. She was a very active member of the Presbyterian Church in Burley, Idaho and Ogden, and served as Deacon. She was the Christian Education Coordinator and an Officer of the Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the P.E.O. She loved her involvement with her Bridge Club and Book Club. Maxine also loved working in her garden and supporting the Arts. She enjoyed hiking, golfing and many other outdoor activities. Surviving are two sons, James (Chris) Wallace, Indio, CA; Kurt (Joha nna) Wallace, Ogden; three grandchildren, Jeanne Wojciechowski, Leigh Ann Wallace, Ann Maxine Wallace, and three great-grandchildren, Ande, Trevor and Sophie. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 27 at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 880 - 28th Street in Ogden. Cremation under the direction of Lindquist's Crematory.
