Owens Sunday, October 9, 2005 PLEASANT VIEW - Merlyn Ellis Owens, 62, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born March 22, 1943 in Ogden, a son of Melvin Ray and Priscilla Welch Owens. Merlyn married Judy Campbell on May 30, 1959 in Ogden. He was a lifelong resident of Ogden and worked at Bourns Auto-Part manufacturing in quality control. Merlyn enjoyed traveling in his motor home, fishing, camping and absolutely adored his grandkids. Surviving are his wife Judy, Pleasant View; two sons and six daughters, Robert (Amanda) Owens, Marriott/Slaterville; Randy Owens, Pleasant View; Sharon (Scott) Atkinson, Roy; DeAnna (Randall) Olney, Farr West; Lori (Kevin) Campell, Plain City; Robin Jessop, Ogden; Becky Kersey-Brian, Clearfield; Angela (Joedy) Rodriquez, Roy; 26 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are his motherin- law, Freda Campbell, Marriott/Slaterville; and one sister Carol (Tom) Reed, Pleasant View. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son Rusty Roy Owens, three grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, and his father- in-law Roy Campbell. David Farr Hodge Sunday, October 9, 2005 ROY - David Farr Hodge, 76, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2005 at his home. He was born March 21, 1929 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Milton and Dorothy Farr Hodge. On June 18, 1952 he married Emma Jean Reynolds in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jean preceded him in death January 13, 2003. Farr taught school in the Ogden City School District and loved and enjoyed it. He was an active member of the LDS church; served an LDS mission in Leesburg, FL; held multiple church positions; held a position on the City Planning Commission and was on the Roy City Council. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family, joy rides in the canyon to look at the fall leaves, and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed taking the grandkids to get ice cream. Surviving are his children, Dorean (Alan) Johnson, Keizer, OR; Jyl (Ken) Olson, Logendale, NV; Michal (Michael) Radle, and Lori (Kurt) Linford, both of No. Ogden; Lynda (Roger) Gibson, Roy; daughter-in-law, Becky Hodge, East Garland; son-in-law, Tony Sanchez, Ogden and a sister, Margaret Hodson, West Point; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Farlene; son, David Layne; and a brother, Robert LaMar Hodge. Wood Sunday, October 9, 2005 OGDEN Nile C. Wood, 83, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born September 6, 1922 in Taylorsville, Utah to William A. and Mary Meyers Wood. On September 21, 1951 he married the love of his life, Janet Florence Larson. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2002. Nile was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army/Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He was employed at DDO and retired in 1979. His greatest joy and pleasure was spending his retirement at the cabin. He loved to golf with Max, liked spending winters in St. George and summers at the cabin. He was the greatest Dad in the world. He is survived by his children, Shari (John) Blueitt of Ogden; Kris (Bob) Geier of Layton; Scott Wood of Pine, CO; his grandchildren, Joey (Andrea) Parker, Erin (Brent) Taylor, Katie Parker, Jenny and Rob Geier and great-grandchildren, Averi, Nathan and Gwenyth. He is also survived by one brother Dell (Millie) Wood of Torrance, CA. Nile is also survived by his little dog and companion Eddie. John (Yohon) Harvey Hunter, Jr. Sunday, October 9, 2005 HARRISVILLE John (Yohon) Harvey Hunter, Jr., age 37, passed away peacefully into his Heavenly Fathers arms Thursday, October 6, 2005. He was born April 21, 1968 in Elmira, NY to John H. and Elizabeth Joyce Miller Hunter. John married his soul mate, Susan Westover on December 2, 1994 in Ogden, Utah. He lived for the outdoors and was an avid bass fisherman, making many fond memories with his family and friends during their outings. John was the consummate entertainer and he loved all the children around him, he was Uncle John to them. He was an accomplished guitar player and had the opportunity to be involved in many bands and travel the country with them. He worked as a mechanic and as a painter. He did glass etchings as a hobby, among many other talents. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints Harrisville 2nd Ward. John is survived by his loving wife and friend Susan of Harrisville, and the complete joy of his heart, his daughter, Amanda Marie of Elmira, NY. He is also survived by his mother Betty of Elmira, NY; his brother LaVere LeRoy Hunter of Horseheads, NY; sisters, Kimberly Joyce (Ed) Henry of Sayre, PA and June Elizabeth (Rick) Rice, Erin, NY and beloved nephews Matt, Steven, Zachery and Gavin and niece, Jessica. John Junior Wilson Sunday, October 9, 2005 EDEN John Junior Wilson, 80, passed away October 7, 2005 at his home. He was born May 4, 1925 in Eden, Utah to William John and Annabelle Fuller Wilson. On September 29, 1948 he married Lou Jean Hokanson in the Salt Lake Temple. During World War II he served with the 2nd Marine Division. John was a member of the L.D.S. Church and served in two bishoprics. He was a temple worker and served a mission with his wife in Pennsylvania. He was a Supervisor for the Soil Conservation District, served as a Deputy Water Commissioner and was involved in the Eden Irrigation Company. John is survived by his wife, Lou Jean; children, Douglas John (Colleen) Wilson of Eden; Peggy Ann (Rodney) Morris of Layton; Shelly (George) Prothero of Ogden, Jolene (Kenny) Kawa of Brigham City and Mark Jay (Destonee) Wilson of Logan. He is also survived by a brother, David Eugene Wilson of Bountiful, 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, a son, Jeffrey Dean Wilson and two grandsons, Brady John Wilson and Ethan Mark Wilson. James "Smitty" William Smith Sunday, October 9, 2005 Smith James "Smitty" William Smith, 81, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at his home in Mesquite, NV, with his family at his side. He was born April 29, 1924, in Jeffersonville, IN to John and Adelaide Smith. He married Dorothy VanCleave in 1946, and they had nine children. Smitty is a retired Major with the United States Air Force. He attended Xavier High School in Louisville, KY. He joined the army in 1943 and transferred to the Army Air Corp and graduated from Cadet's Flight School in Luke, AZ in 1944. Smitty served his country in World War II and in the Korean War. He flew 120 missions during the Korean War. Smitty received numerous commendations and service awards including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the USAF in 1964 after 21 years of service. Smitty enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. Smitty is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy "Dottie" Smith, and his children, James W. Smith, Jr. (Pat), Taylorsville, UT; Sharon L. Mosher (Larry), Ogden, UT; Christopher L. Smith (Sandra), Surprise, AZ; Rebecca A. Taylor, Ogden, UT; Colette S. Kellerstrass, Ogden, UT; Guy Z. Smith, Ogden, UT; Mark A. Smith (Sandy), Las Vegas, NV; and Timothy S. Smith (Holly), Ogden, UT; 21 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Adelaide Smith, his son, Gregory Smith and sister, Rita Miller. Julio Chaparro Sunday, October 9, 2005 CLINTON -- Julio Chaparro, 80, passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Davis Hospital in Layton. He was born February 4, 1925 in Alto de Dolores, Chihuahua, Mex., the son of Florencio and Evilia Lechuga Chaparro. On July 23, 1949 he married Beatriz Amaya in La Nortena, Chihuahua, Mex. Julio was a great solutionist. He found a better way to do anything. He was also a great inventor. He enjoyed writing and could make up a rhyme about anyone. He was the pioneer of the family in bringing them to the United States. When he first came to the U.S. he was a sheepherder and logger; and a farmer back in Mexico. He was supportive for all his children--always there for his family--family was his life. Surviving are his wife, Beatriz; children: Ramon Chaparro, Maria Ramirez, Jose Chaparro, Abel Chaparro, Noemi Parra and Rigo Chaparro; 25 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Pedro and Tacho and two sisters, Maria Luisa and Jesus. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the Living Water Baptist Church, 288 W. Golden Ave., Layton, UT. Devaun (Tater) Tait Sunday, October 9, 2005 SUNSET -- Devaun (Tater) Tait, 82, passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at ManorCare Health Services in Ogden. He was born April 2, 1923 in Mt. Carmel, Utah, the son of Thomas Carson and Sarah Allen Hodges Tait. He married Zaila Lee Harbison, the love of his life for 58 years, October 18, 1947 in Kaysville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple March 1, 1979. Devaun had worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, a member of the Sunset LDS lst Ward, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local #3 for 60 years. He enjoyed working around his home-especially working in his yard. He liked to travel and enjoyed returning to his hometown of Mt. Carmel for visits. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Surviving are his wife, Zaila, of Sunset; a son, Thomas Wray (Jeanne) Tait of Layton; and daughter-in-law, Kim Tait of Ohio; a sister, Kathleen Salter, Mt. Carmel, UT and a brother, Max Tait of Fredonia, AZ; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by three children, Robert Devaun, Evaun Lee (Doll) and Kay Don Tait; one granddaughter, Kristina; three brothers and a sister. Raymond Lamar Bean Sunday, October 9, 2005 LAGUNA HILLS, California - Raymond Lamar Bean, 85, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2005 of natural causes. Ray was born May 17, 1920 in Evanston, Wyoming, the son of Frances Armstrong Bean and Nellie Wilkinson Bean. He was raised in Evanston with two brothers and three sisters. Following high school graduation, Ray joined the Army Air Corps and served as a bomber and glider pilot during World War II. Ray married Edythe Elizabeth Bean July 5, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. Ray and his family were stationed in France during the Korean War. Following active military service Ray and his family settled in Sunset and Roy, Utah where he worked as a civilian at Hill Air Force Reserve for 21 years. With declining health, Ray moved to Laguna Hills, California in 1999, where he continued to be an active member of the Lutheran church. He also continued his enjoyment of traveling with friends at the Leisure World Community. Surviving are Ray's daughter, Barbara Heitz, son-in-law Jim Heitz and granddaughter Nicole Heitz of Laguna Niguel, California. Also surviving is Rays sister, Miriam Albrecht of Evanston, Wyoming. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Edythe, brothers Charles Bean and George Bean and sisters Francis Turner and Beth Bean. The interment will be held at Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. A family memorial will be held following interment. Wanda Mary Sharp Berkley Sunday, October 9, 2005 Together Forever SUNSET - Wanda Mary Sharp Berkley, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Wasatch Care Center. She was born June 9, 1921 in Preston, Idaho the daughter of Lester Irvin and Mary Alice Bright Sharp. Wanda married George Dotson Berkley on November 21, 1921 in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of the LDS church, serving in the YWMIA, Primary, and as a Visiting Teacher in the Sunset 2nd and 3rd Ward, Sunset Stake and a temple worker. Wanda enjoyed working at Elaine's Dress Shop. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading and camping with friends. Her grandchildren were her joy, she always said they were PERFECT. Surviving are her son, George D. (Linda) Berkley Jr., Clinton; daughter, Jenean (Don) Crook, Clinton; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, parents and five brothers. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Clinton City Cemetery, 800 North 750 West. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Wasatch Care Center for all their loving care and kindness. Kirk Montgomery Breitweiser Sunday, October 9, 2005 ROY - Kirk M. Breitweiser, 48, beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend fell prey to the dreaded disease of alcoholism on Tuesday, October 4, 2005. Kirk battled with this addiction for years. It is his family's desire that all reading this will know how fatal this disease can be. He was born May 19, 1957, in Ogden, Utah to Donald "Monte" Chase and Gwen J. Bailey. Kirk was a professional journeyman electrician with the 8th District Electrical Union Locals #354 and # 57. He started his career at Chase Electric, a family owned and operated business. He longed to model his father in business and did so working for him for many years. Kirk played an active role in setting up and facilitating the Ogden Haunted House for several years, providing entertainment for families in our community. His career would eventually lead him to the heights of Foreman with Sturgeons Electric where he was a loyal employee until the end. He loved working on our huge power substations responsible for providing power to all of us locally. His professionalism and work ethic will be truly missed. He married Denise Derosier. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents. Kirk is survived by his parents, Monte Chase and Gwen Bailey; his adopted father, Larry Breitweiser; his finacee, Sheila Barnes; his son, Christopher; and a granddaughter, Angelic; four sisters, Kathy Ongley, Celeste (Michael) Davis, Heidi (Edwardo) Pantoja, and Shelley Mc- Conaugh; three brothers, Clifford, Kevin and Scott Chase; many aunts, uncles, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws, other relatives and many friends.
