She was born October 6, 1914 to Walker Scott Cheesman and Celia Eccles Cheesman. She graduated from Ogden High and the University of Utah. She married Louis Reese on September 4, 1936 in Littleton, Colorado. Mom was a people person. She loved, as family or friend, everyone she met and never lost a friend in 91 years. She considered herself an active peacemaker. She was well educated and enjoyed a career as a school teacher. She taught in several coal mining towns in Utah and Colorado, retiring from Franklin Elementary in Salt Lake City. After retiring she went on to serve as a board member for the Mental Health Association. She enjoyed having gatherings at her home, working the daily crossword puzzle, and beating anyone and everyone at Scrabble. She will be missed. Survived by sons Walker (Barbara Johnson) Reese of Kaysville, Jack (Judy) Reese, Sun Lakes, AZ, daughter Jill (Arcy) Martinez, Ogden, sister Billie Campbell and brother Scott (Zina) Cheesman of Salt Lake City. 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Louise Reese and sister, Ann Bowman. Winchester, Murray, UT, 84107 (801-262- 9474) Vernal H. Moyes Tuesday, October 11, 2005 PLAIN CITY - Vernal H. Moyes, 81, died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family, of causes incident to age. He was born February 6, 1924 in Plain City, a son of Elbert J. and Edna May Hipwell Moyes. On December 23, 1942, Vernal married Elaine Palmer in Plain City. They were lifelong residents of Plain City and snowbirds to Washington, Utah since 1985. Vernal was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints Plain City 5th Ward where he was an Elder. He served with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II serving in the Philippines and Japan. Vernal and Elaine spent their entire lives operating their own family farm and successfully raising their children. Vernal could be seen farming as recently as this past summer. He served on the Plain City Town Council; President of the Plain City Irrigation Co.; Plain City Watermaster; Bonna Vista Water Board; member of the Asparagus Growers Association; the Plain City Lions Club and a life member of the Elks Club. Vernal enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, hunting, and coaching youth baseball teams. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid supporter of all their activities. S urviving are his wife of Plain City; four sons and one daughter, Craig P. Moyes, South Jordan; Lynn Vernal (Kay) Moyes, Drew Von (Barbara) Moyes, and Gene V. (Nancie) Moyes, all of Plain City; Holly Moyes (Gordon) Young, Mona, UT; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Lewis George Moyes, Henderson, NV. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Carl, and grandson Michael James Moyes. Dean J. Korth Tuesday, October 11, 2005 CLEARFIELD - Dean J. Korth, 86, died Sunday, October 9, 2005, of a stroke and has gone to Heaven for peace and rest. He was born October 3, 1919 in Garland, Utah, a son of Gustave R. and Carrie C. Johnson Korth. He was loved and nurtured by his parents. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1937. Soon after his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army for four years and served in World War II. He married Marilyn Gwen Horsley in the Salt Lake LDS temple on May 9, 1951. She passed away on November 15, 1981. He married Shirley Warne on February 4, 1984. He worked at Hill Air Force Base as a missile mechanic and retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of the LDS church and served in various capacities in the church over his lifetime. He loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved his garden each year and spent many hours tending to it, especially his raspberry bushes. He had a love of model airplanes and spent many hours restoring airplanes at the Hill Air Force Base Aerospace Museum. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, one son, Ronald D. Korth, one daughter, Linda A. Korth and three step-daughters, Beverly (Bob Wheelecor) Seeger, Claire (Heath) Roberts, and Lynette McEntire. He is also survived by one brother, Don R. Korth. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marilyn, one son, Gary L. Korth, and two sisters, Margaret McGinty and Vaudis Sanford. Dean was blessed with six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five stepgreat grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Lindquists Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. We will always love you and miss you greatly. Joseph N. Neary Tuesday, October 11, 2005 OGDEN - Joseph N. Neary passed away October 8, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. Joe was born November 11, 1927 in Denver, Colorado to Thomas William Neary and Adeline Persicetti. He was raised in Denver where he graduated from Lakewood High School in 1946. Joe then attended Denver University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in March of 1952. He married Betty Ann Lehl April 21, 1952. Joe worked for Mountain Bell in Denver and was transferred to Ogden as the District Manager on October 1, 1967. He worked there after it became AT&T until his retirement on December 30, 1982. Upon retiring from the phone company Joe worked as a realtor for Wardley Corporation until 2000. Joe was a member of the Ogden Rotary Club and Director of the Greater Ogden Chamber of Commerce from 1969-1971. He also served as President of The Weber Club. He was active in many other groups including, the Ogden Golf and Country Club, the Ogden Logistics Association, the National Association of Realtors (1985), the Downtown Ogden Development Committee and was Director of Committee of 100 for the Ogden Chamber. He also was active in the United Fund. Joe enjoyed spending time with his wife of 54 years, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and coffee with his buddies. He is survived by his wife Betty Ann, his children, Michael (Wendy) Neary of Willard, Michele (John) Lukes of Ventura, CA., Marty (Shannon) Neary of Denver, CO., Mary Jo (Buck) Finley of Breckenridge, CO., six grandchildren: Jodi, Tristen, Matthew, Tony, Payton, and Carson, and one brother, Donald O. Neary of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the mortuary. She was born on November 23, 1927 in Logan, Utah to Howard Leslie & Martha England Call. She married Gerald Blaine Spencer on June 25, 1948 in the Logan Temple who preceded her in death and a son Rex Floyd Taylor. She then married Lawrence Charles Taylor on May 26, 1972 in the Ogden Temple. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery. Devaun (Tater) Tait Tuesday, October 11, 2005 SUNSET - Devaun (Tater) Tait, 82, passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at ManorCare Health Services in Ogden. He was born April 4, 1923 in Mt. Carmel, Utah, the son of Thomas Carson and Sarah Allen Hodges Tait. He married Zaila Lee Harbison, the love of his life for 58 years, October 18, 1947 in Kaysville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple March 1, 1979. Devaun had worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army, a member of the Sunset LDS lst Ward, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local #3 for 60 years. He enjoyed working around his home-especially working in his yard. He liked to travel and enjoyed returning to his hometown of Mt. Carmel for visits. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Surviving are his wife, Zaila, of Sunset; a son, Thomas Wray (Jeanne) Tait of Layton; and daughter-in-law, Kim Tait of Ohio; a sister, Kathleen Salter, Mt. Carmel, UT and a brother, Max Tait of Fredonia, AZ; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by three children, Robert Devaun, Evaun Lee (Doll) and Kay Don Tait; one granddaughter, Kristina; three brothers and a sister. Leona Simper Clark Tuesday, October 11, 2005 Together Again Leona Pearl Simper Clark passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at the age of 93. She was born November 18, 1911 in Lynn, Utah to Ernest Daniel and Rosella Bird Simper. She married Lynn O. Clark on October 1, 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four daughters, Nelda (Garr) Bolton of Roosevelt, Narlene Freeze of Snowville, Nyrma McKenna of Snowflake, AZ and Lornel (James) Tureson of Layton. Their posterity includes 16 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren. Leona served a mission with her husband in Independence, MO. They also served as temple workers in the Ogden Temple. Leona served in many callings throughout various auxiliaries of the church. She was an accomplished homemaker and made her home a place of beauty with handicrafts. She excelled in her crochet, quilts, and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT. Alabe Garza, Sr. Tuesday, October 11, 2005 Alabe Garza, Sr., 65, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 9, 2005 after a valiant battle of illness. He was born June 17, 1940 in Kennedy, Texas to Santiago and Celestina Garza. He was the twelth of twelve children. He met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Olivia Cerda and they married on June 7, 1958. Alabe worked in farming, oil refinery, truck driving and at La-ZBoy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gambling and being with family. He was a member of the Santa Ana Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Olivia, children: Santiago "Jim" (Jackie) Garza, Alabe Jr. (Sandra) Garza, Mary Noemi Garza, Priscilla (Chad) Roberts. He has 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Four sisters: Elva Gonzalez, Lovington, NM, Nellie Luna, West Palm Beach, FL, Chita Banda, O'- Donnell, TX, Carmen Rodriguez, Danville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: DoMingo Castaneda, Juan Medina, Benito Garza, Jose Castaneda; three sisters: Maria Gomez, Ofelia Salas, Lile Gamez. Esther Florence Peterson Tuesday, October 11, 2005 OGDEN - Esther Florence Mc- Farland Peterson, 96, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005 in Ogden. She was born March 24, 1909 in West Weber, to Daniel and Esther Greenwell McFarland. She lived in West Weber until the age of nine when the family moved to Farr West. She was a member of the first graduating class of Weber High School in 1927. On May 6, 1933, Esther married Rupert Peterson. He died April 11, 1997. She loved and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many Ward and Stake callings. Surviving are her son, J. Keith (Vernona) Olsen, Harrisville; three grandsons, Ross (Susan) Olsen, Murray (Janalee) Olsen, Bruce (Bonnie) Olsen, 12 greatgrandchildren and five greatgreat- grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Donna (Clair) Russell. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and one brother. She dearly loved her family and friends and leaves her love and thanks to all of them for their love and caring.
