Clark began his earthly life on June 24, 1921 and transitioned into the next on Monday, August 29, 2005. His son, Mike, and daughter-in-law, Anne, were at his side as he danced his way into heaven to Glenn Miller tunes. Born to Andrew T. and Alberta M. Clark, dad was raised in Farmington, Utah, where he enjoyed the days of childhood when youth were expected to work hard and play hard. He attended Davis High School where he lettered in swimming. He became a member of America's Greatest Generation when two events ensued: the Great Depression of 1929 when he was 8 years old; and World War II when he was 20. During the depression he helped his family keep food on the table and a smile on their faces. As a young man his great ambition was to become a pilot. He joined the U.S. Navy when war threatened and accepted as assignment to Pensacola-Florida Naval Air Station. He eagerly took an assignment to fly fighters. During the war he served in North Africa and the South Pacific and was credited with three confirmed aircraft shot down and flew many other sorties. For his service he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Distinguished Service Medals. Late in the war he became a flight instructor and trained new naval aviators. Shortly after the war, he worked and helped manage Signal Mountain Lodge and Battle Mountain Guest Ranch near Jackson, Wyoming. In the 70's he managed Bull Frog Marina on Lake Powell. Working in such beauty imparted a sense of spirituality to both areas for him and his family. Dad's main occupation was a restauranteur. He owned and managed the Clark's Cafeterias in Salt Lake and Ye Lion's Den in Ogden. Dad helped raise five children along with his wife, Mildred Harris, of Evanston, WY; Susan Sharrock, Bristow, OK; Mike Clark, Ogden; Jayne Clark, Salt Lake City; Dave Clark, Lander, WY; and Matt Clark, Salt Lake City. Later in life he married Edna Pett Chamberlain and greatly enjoyed the love and friendship of her three sons and their families: Dick Chamberlain, Fruit Heights; Bob Chamberlain, Centerville; and Scott Chamberlain, Missouri. He is also survived by his sister, Sally Birk, Duluth, MN; his five children, three stepsons, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Most of dad's friends, his sister Barbara Hoiles, his parents and Edna preceded him into the next life. We trust he is rejoined with them and is once again enjoying their love and friendship. Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. In lieu of any gifts, his family would appreciate donations being made to the Weber-Davis Habitat for Humanity chapter.
