He was born September 13, 1929 in Clearfield, Utah, the son of Richard Henry and Hazel Thurgood Hamblin. He married Melissa Arlene Craig on March 4, 1948 in Lawton, Oklahoma; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in June of 1962. They are the parents of six children, Michael (Shelly) Hamblin, Jenny (David) Hawks (serving an LDS Mission in England), David (Diana) Hamblin, Steven (Jan) Hamblin, Robert (Stephanie) Hamblin, Tim (Heather) Hamblin; 24 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. LaMar worked at Hill Air Force Base for many years, but will be remembered most for his "green chili" that so many people looked forward to and traveled many miles to purchase. He loved to hunt and fish with his family. In his last years he had a favorite fishing buddy, Ken Porter. They spent quality time up East Canyon wetting worms. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing to his grandchildren, visiting the homebound in nursing homes and sharing his music with them. Growing plants in his greenhouse and beautifying his yard was his passion. Just this summer he planted over 500 geraniums and hundreds of marigolds and petunias which he grew from seed. He will also be remembered as a loving husband, father, a hard worker and good neighbor. LaMar was active in the Syracuse First Ward and the Meadows Ward, serving as a Scout Leader, High Priest and Home Teacher for many years. He served a mission with his wife, Arlene in the Vancouver-British Columbia Mission in Surrey. Special thanks to Dr. Richard Frame and his staff for their excellent care, love and compassion. Thanks also to Hospice workers, Brenda, Queenie, Jennifer and Amber. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, at 1:00 p.m. at the Meadows Ward, 720 S. 2500 W., Syracuse, UT. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery. Dean Francis Morrin Tuesday, September 6, 2005 OGDEN - Dean Francis Morrin, 87, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005 at Manor Care in Ogden. He was born September 9, 1917 in Ogden, Utah, to Maurice and Nettie Russell Morrin. Dean served in the Army during World War II. He graduated from Ogden High in 1935 and from Weber State College in 1938. He attended the University of Utah Law School. On May 17, 1941, Dean married Jane Shurtliff in Randolph, Utah. Dean served on the Board of Directors for Commercial Security Bank which is now Key Bank. He was a member of the Ogden City Civil Service Commission and the Associated General Contractors of America. He was the Director of the Ogden Weber Chamber of Commerce. He was Chairman of the Weber Economic Development Corporation and the Ogden Industrial Development Corporation. He served on the committee for the Eccles Conference Center, on the Board of Directors of the Ogden Country Club and Weber Club and helped establish Mission 2000. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities Degree from Weber State University. Dean and Jane received the Ogden Weber Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year Award. Dean was a general contractor and he built many buildings at Utah State University, University of Utah and Weber State University. He built schools for the Ogden City schools and Weber County schools including Weber High school. He built the Bank of Utah, Key Bank and many other buildings. He built dozen of bridges on the interstates in Nevada, Idaho, Montana and all of Northern Utah. He worked on Starvation Dam, Soldier Creek Dam and Naughton Dam in Wyoming. He built the fish hatchery in Orofino, Idaho. He was the general contractor for numerous waste water and water treatment plants. He converted all of the barracks into housing which became the city of Washington Terrace. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, bowling, spending time at the family cabin and traveling. He loved birthday and holiday gatherings. Dean is survived by his wife, Jane; a son, Richard Dean (Mikki) Morrin, Ogden; four daughters, Suzann (Vern) Carter, Bakersfield, CA; Kathy (Jerry) Opheikens, Ogden; Mary (Pat) Dabling, Ogden; Jill Morrin, Layton; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Janet Nichols and a son, James E. Morrin. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Jim Jensen, officiating. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of choice. Dolores Cortes Hamel Tuesday, September 6, 2005 WEST POINT - Dolores Mary Cortes Hamel, 70, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away September 4, 2005 after an extended illness. She was born September 29, 1934 to Mary Ellen Arambarri Smith and John Cortes in Bingham, Utah. Dolores married the love of her life, Fredie S. Hamel on November 17, 1952 in Ogden, Utah and were able to celebrate 50 years of marriage. From this union they had three children, Deborah (Dave) Johnson, Pamela (Robert) Checketts, and Fredie S. Hamel Jr., a special son who his mother is now with; five grandchildren, Marc, Courtney and Steven Rice; and Brandon and April Checketts. Dolores supported her husband Fredie when he joined the Marines in 1951. During his 30 years of proud military service, the family resided in numerous locations across the country until Dolores and Fredie retired in West Point, Utah. Dolores dearly loved and supported her husband, daughters and grandchildren. While residing in Albuquerque, she was employed as a kindergarten teacher and enjoyed being around all children. She had a special place in her heart for the children of St. Jude and those in her West Point neighborhood. Dolores enjoyed her hobbies, was known as a tease, and loved to have fun. She would make sure her children knew where she was sitting during school plays by waiving a white handkerchief. Dolores loved to play games with her family. To her grandchildren she will always be remembered as "granny." Dolores is survived by her two daughters and sons-in law; five grandchildren; one expecting great-grandchild; brothers, John Cortes and Ben (Paul) Smith, Jr.; and stepfather, Ben F. Smith, Sr.; four nieces; two nephews; five great nieces and nine greatnephews. Mom, "granny," we will always love you and miss you. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 5865 South 1900 West. Frank Richard Evans Tuesday, September 6, 2005 "Together Forever" SOUTH OGDEN - Frank Richard Evans, 89, passed away August 29, 2005 at his home in South Ogden of natural causes. He was born February 10, 1916 in Randolph, Utah, the son of Oscar Jacob and Mary Adelaid Egan Evans. He was raised and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School. As a youth he worked in the fields in Randolph and delivered milk for local dairies. He made a career of working on the railroad, retiring in 1976 after more than 32 years of service. After his retirement, he worked at Smith & Edwards. It was here that he made many friends. He was dedicated to law enforcement and served as a reserve officer in the Ogden Police Department. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church and was a high priest in the Ogden 49th Ward. In 1956 he married Una Allred Jensen in Reno, Nevada. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. It broke his heart to lose his bride when she passed away in April 2005. He spent many happy years at his summer home on the Star Valley Ranch in Wyoming. He was very proud of his cabin. He also took pride in his home in South Ogden which was a joy for all to see. He will be missed as he was a doting father and grandfather. His music on the harmonica will also be missed as he could play any song by ear upon request. Surviving are his step-children, Lee Ann Atkinson (Eddie) deceased, Connie Bethel (Dale), Michael Jensen (Cis) and James Jensen (Chris). He is also survived by one daughter, Patricia and one sister, Eleanore Patterson and numerous nieces and nephews. Left behind are 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 2 greatgreat- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Una, his parents, five brothers and two sisters and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Sheron Lee Call Finley Tuesday, September 6, 2005 ROY - Sheron Finley was called home to her Heavenly Father after a long struggle with diabetes. She was living with her son in Washington Terrace. Sheron was 62 years old and born June 30, 1943, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents saw that she was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully all her life. She was married to Holger Duane Finley, January 29, 1965 in the Los Angeles Temple. In her later years she moved to Roy, Utah to be near her sister, Dorcus Call Reid.While working at the American River College Institute of Religion she became a second "mom" to many students and loved her own children with the same sweet caring spirit. Sheron was always willing to listen and give love to others and did so despite personal adversity. She is survived by her sister Dorcus Call Reid, her brother, Gary V. Call, and her five children, David (Crystal), Paul (Wendy), Michael (Christie), Steven (Wendy) Finley and Jennifer (Dan) Madsen. She was preceded in death by her father, Varial Call, her mother, Imogene Wood, and her eldest daughter Valinda Susanne Finley. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. June Burgess Gibbons Jamison Tuesday, September 6, 2005 OGDEN June Burgess Gibbons Jamison departed this earth on September 3, 2005 surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 4, 1917 in Hyde Park, Utah, a daughter of Samuel George and Iva Gheen Burgess. She married Louis Vaden Gibbons in Worland, Wyoming and from this union came five daughters and one son. Their marriage was later solemnized in the L.D.S. Temple. He preceded her in death. She then married Donald Jamison in Elko, Nevada. He preceded her in death. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and during her years she served in numerous callings in Young Womens and Relief Society. She owned and operated a dance studio where many of her students went on to successful careers in entertainment. In her early years she worked with the youth in dance, theater, music and recreation. She was active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and giving numerous book reviews throughout the valley for the Literary Club. She is survived by five daughters and one son, Sue G. (Gary) Bowden, Iva Lou (Charles) Burns, Cathy L. (Michael) Baird, Christine J. (Robert) Close, Mary F. (David) Lund, Stephen L. (Ilene) Gibbons. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and one sister, Georgeann Burgess. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Virginia Burgess Anderson, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson. The family would like to thank the staff at Emeritus Estates and Horizon Hospice for the kind loving care.
