Born July 28, 1930 to Munson and Florence Vanderhoof in Wisconsin. After 20 years service with the Air Force he retired and moved to Roy, where he worked for 22 years at Hill AFB. Surviving is his wife, Ilse; three daughters, Carey Probasco of Anchorage, AK, Linda Sandoval of Roy and Heike (Clair) Weeding of Ogden; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated with no services. We love and miss you. Florez, 75, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2005, at his home. He was born March 25, 1930 in Southfork, Colorado, to Toribio and Lucita Valdez Florez. After growing up in Colorado he moved to Utah where he resided for nearly 50 years. On March 7, 1952 Gilbert married Eloise Leal in Sunset, Utah. She died January 21, 1990. Gilbert loved to fish and go on trips to Wendover. He enjoyed being a senior companion for Weber Human Services. He is survived by his sister, Mary F. Woodall; a son, William L. (Billy) Florez; a daughter, Mary Lou Florez "Lanier"; a step-son, Joe Apodaca; a niece, L. Brenda (Arthur Lee) Holston; a nephew, Leon Woodall; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several very close friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and his wife, Eloise. Lois Ilene Hight Rasmussen Sunday, September 11, 2005 KAYSVILLE - Lois Ilene Hight Rasmussen left this existence Friday, September 9, 2005, just two months after her 75th birthday. She was born June 24, 1930 to Wallace and Ethel Elliott Hight and grew up with her 3 brothers and 3 sisters in Farmington. She was a proud graduate of Davis High School, Class of 1948. In December of 1947, Lois was sealed to James R. Rasmussen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised their six children in Kaysville where she lived out the rest of her life. She and James loved to go camping with their family. In later years they bonded with their Uno group while playing cards, watching Jazz games and traveling the world. Lois, along with her best friend Betty Parsell, enjoyed owning Friends Catering. Lois had a real talent for music. We all have memories of her playing the piano and singing, or heading out in her crazy outfits to go perform her comedy routines. She was also the ward organist for many years. However, Lois real passion came from interacting with others. She thrived when regaling her friends and family with her anecdotes. She cherished the luncheons with her childhood friends. Lois loved her family, friends and ward family very much. Her parents, husband, sons Richard and Paul, along with her great-grandson Marcus, brothers Wally, John and sister Dawn hailed her arrival on the other side of the veil. Lois will be missed here on earth by her son Jim and his wife Linda, her daughters, Evelyn, Eileen and Chris, as well as her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also her siblings, Norma (Wallace) Allred, Virginia (Rex) Creer, Alan (Mona) Hight, Shirley Hight, Helen Hight and Walt Bain, and the rest of her extended family will grieve for Lois as well. Lorna Parks Benson Sunday, September 11, 2005 WASHINGTON TERRACE - Lorna Parks Benson, 81, passed away Friday, September 9, 2005 following a long, courageous battle with diabetes. She was born November 13, 1923 in Riverside, Idaho, the first child of Rulon R. and Martha VanOrden Parks. Lorna grew up in Riverside and graduated from Moreland High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Rex E. Benson on January 16, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and active in the Washington Terrace 5th Ward. She served well in many church positions: Stake Primary worker, Ward Relief Society President and as Teacher in several classes, including Gospel Doctrine. She graduated from the Ogden, Utah Institute of Religion. Lorna served in the Charlotte North Carolina Mission where she enjoyed her service and the many new friends she made there. She also worked for over six years in the Ogden Temple. She thoroughly enjoyed her service and associations in the holy temple and cultivated an unusual knowledge of the gospel there. Lorna was an excellent gardener and loved to work in her flower garden. Her roses were gorgeous and many people commented on how beautiful they were. Although Lorna had various occupations in her life, her first job was with her family. She received a certificate for putting her husband through college. She was active in politics and served many years as an election judge. She also worked at a nursing home where she cared for many patients. Being a very compassionate person, Lorna insisted on providing loving, long-term, geriatric care for three of her family members in her home. Surviving are her husband, Rex E. Benson, Washington Terrace; one son and seven daughters, Rulon (Linda) Benson, Roy; Pamela Stanger, Sunset; Lesa Benson, Washington Terrace; Yvonne Jones, Saratoga Springs, Utah; Phyllis (Robert) Williamson, Roy; Marie (Robb) Judkins, West Haven; Celia (Dennis) Horne, Clearfield; Stephanie (Patrick) Ring, Salt Lake City; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth (Gail) Parks, Ammon, Idaho; Raymond (Paula) Parks, Moreland, Idaho; and two sisters, Verla Sasser, Pingry, Idaho; Delores (Marvin) Pitman, Pocatello, Idaho. Lorna was preceded in death by: her father and mother, Rulon and Martha Parks, a son, Alva Henry Benson and three brothers, Dean, Clifford and Marvin Parks. Lorna was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. We will certainly miss her. The family wishes to thank Bentley McEntire, M.D., Tyler Dixon, M.D., and the many other doctors and nurses at McKay- Dee Hospital who were caring and helpful in taking care of Lorna during her stay at the hospital. We also wish to thank Dr. Jason Bruse and Dr. Ross Kelson for their kind attention they gave Lorna while under their care. Gary L. McPhie Sunday, September 11, 2005 CASPER, WYOMING - Gary Lee McPhie, 62, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005, in Casper. He was born July 8, 1943, to Edward George and Janet Margaret Firmage McPhie. Gary attended school in Rock Springs and Pinedale, Wyoming. In 1982 he married Norine Dickemore in Farr West, Utah. Gary worked in the bakery business for 42 years and he was known as the "Sweetheart Man" on his delivery route. Gary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. He is survived by his wife, Norine, Casper; two daughters, Lorey Bingham, Ogden; Kay Call, Ogden; one son, Gary McPhie, Jr., Casper; and three grandchildren. Friends and family may call on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Reva Nelson Sunday, September 11, 2005 Reva Ann Weddle Nelson died peacefully in her sleep August 29, 2005 at Valley Vista Care Center, St. Maries, Idaho. Born February 26, 1915, Pueblo, Colorado to Grace and Clarence Weddle, survived by sister, Viola Jose, Pinole, California; and brother Robert Weddle, whereabouts unknown. The family moved to Salt Lake City where she graduated from West High. She married Henry Everett Nelson, (who passed away in 1996) October 31, 1936; they relocated to Ogden, Utah, where he joined his brother in a family business called Nelson Brothers Grocery. They raised two children: John and Margaret Ann. Reva maintained a meticulous home and garden, taught Sunday School at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd for 22 years, volunteered for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, was an election judge for over 40 years. Reva inherited her love of gardening from her father and her cooking and sewing skills from her mother; she has passed this legacy on. Her quiet expressions of love will be missed by her family: John and wife Kathi Nelson, Margaret and husband Billy Hollingsworth, grandchildren: Kirk Nelson, Brian Nelson, Kristine Collier, Dominique Nelson, Annlise Nelson; great-grandchildren: Ian Nelson, Kyle Nelson, Riley Nelson, Madeleine Nelson, Natalie Collier. Nishiguchi, 76, passed away on September 7, 2005. Frank was born on July 23, 1929, to George Jitsuzo and Ai Watanabe Nishiguchi in Riverside, UT, the youngest of seven children. He married Fumiko Ishii on Valentines Day in 1954. He was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all. His life exemplified integrity, sincerity, vision and personal commitment. Frank was always dedicated to improving the lives of others and the community. Some of the positions he held were: Pres., Utah Farm Bureau; County Commissioner: GM, Bear River Water Conservancy Dist, Co-Founder and Dir.; Bear River Valley Hospital, Board Member; American Farm Bureau. Frank was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints serving in various church positions -- Stake Sunday School President, High Councilor, High Priest. He is survived by his wife Fumi; children, Kay (Bryan) Thomas, Peggy (John) Davis and Ben (Janine) Nishiguchi, eight grandchildren, siblings Ruby Sato and Ralph Nishiguchi. Parley Elwin Allred Sunday, September 11, 2005 LOGAN, Utah - Parley Elwin Allred, of Logan, Utah passed away on Sept. 7, 2005 at The Sunshine Terrace. Elwin was born August 26, 1912, in Paris, Idaho to Parley Leon and Pearl Fackrell Allred. He had an older sister, Belva Allred Hart, and a younger brother, Leon Dale Allred. He married Donna Stephens, of Preston, on June 26, 1936 in Provo, Utah. They were divorced the spring of 1943. He married Grace Benson Crookston on Dec. 6, 1947 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Elwin was educated in Preston, Idaho where he graduated from Preston High School. While in High School he organized and was the leader of "The Elcodian" dance band and played for many dances in the South Eastern Idaho area. Elwin served his country during the second world war in the 1O4th Timberwolf Infantry Division and fought across Europe. His unit liberated several concentration camps, including the death camp at Nordhausen. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, being wounded in action, and received the Bronze Star for valor. He and his wife Grace organized the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club and spent many years square dancing and performed in competitions. Elwin and Grace spent many years traveling to his army reunions. He has written many articles of his experiences for publication in the 1O4th Timberwolf News. Elwin lived in Logan and was employed by both The Herald Journal Newspaper and The Herald Printing Company for 42 years until his retirement. Elwin is a devoted Republican and has served on many committees within the Republican Party and was actively involved in the affairs of the Logan City and Cache County Councils. He was known throughout the state for his many letters to the editor. He was also instrumental in organizing and collecting funds from each town in the county to replace the deteriorated War Memorial on the Court House comer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister (Belva), a brother (Dale) and his beloved wife Grace. He is survived by one son, Ronald (Sharon) Crookston, Logan, four granddaughters, Teresa (Michael) Larsen, Salt Lake City, Utah, Coreen (Kris) Larsen, Logan, Utah, Allison (Derrick) Longson, Highland, Utah, Jennifer (Paul) Schofield, Sandy, Utah. He is the grandfather of 14 great -grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:00 pm in the Allen- Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan. Lillian Florence Karpenko Sunday, September 11, 2005 Lillian Florence Karpenko, 95, passed away on September 8, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born June 9, 1910, the daughter of Hans and Milla Anderson in Glenfield, North Dakota. She was reared and educated in North Dakota. Lillian received her teaching certificate and taught school in a one room school in Carrington. Lillian lived primarily in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Austin, Texas. She lived out her last years in Roy and Bountiful, Utah Lillian's greatest reward in life was raising her three children. She loved homemaking, arts and crafts, dancing, singing and playing cards. Golf was one of her favorite games and she never let us forget she got a hole-in-one. Lillian was an active member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Lillian is survived by two sons, William Overn Karpenko II of Valparaiso, Indiana and Ronald E. Karpenko of West Point, Utah; daughter, Lois Karpenko of Tiburon, California; sister, Ruby Pewe of McHenry, North Dakota; five grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2005 at Lindquists Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Ahrensbach, 70, died September 8, 2005 at his home. He was born October 16, 1934 in Hyrum, Utah, a son of Berneice and Pete Ahrensbach. He married Mary L. Christian. They were later divorced. He had lived in Brigham City, Clearfield, and Ogden. He was employed at Hercules and Hill Air Force Base. He had also been in the U.S. Army Reserve. Dad loved camping, fishing, wood-working and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan May, and grandson, Daniel Ahrensbach. Surviving are three sons and three daughters; Michael L. Ahrensbach, Robert K. Ahrensbach, Roy, Steven C. (Lisa) Ahrensbach, Ogden, Carol M. (Todd) Granquist, Bountiful, Sharon A. Ahrensbach, Ogden, Joann B. (Ben) Swanson, Boise, ID, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and sister Lila Kearsey, Oklahoma. Virginia Clyde Wohlgemuth Sunday, September 11, 2005 BRIGHAM CITY - Virginia Clyde Wohlgemuth, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at her home in Brigham City of natural causes. She was born on November 3, 1921 in Springville, Utah, a daughter of Grover and Grace Starr Clyde. She married Wilford A. Wohlgemuth on November 14, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Elder Spencer W. Kimball. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2001. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, serving as Relief Society President, Visiting Teacher Supervisor and in the Name Extraction Program for 20 years. Virginia was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Professional Credit Women International and the Sewing Club. She grew up in Chicago and Milwaukee and following her marriage she raised her family in Milwaukee and Brigham City. She worked for the FBI in Milwaukee and Fidelity Finance Service in Brigham City. Virginia enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and made an afghan for every grandchild. She enjoyed traveling and playing games with her family. Surviving are four children, Lee (Marti) Wohlgemuth, Uintah; Aleen (Frank) Nighswonger, North Salt Lake; Nedra (Ronald) Francom, Honeyville; Clyde (Sandy) Wohlgemuth, Brigham City; 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Cecil) Talbot, Oak Harbor, Washington and Jane Hamil, Marietta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford, and one sister, Mary Hyde. Joseph Lough Sunday, September 11, 2005 Joseph Lough of Vacaville, California, died peacefully following a long illness on September 3, 2005. Born in Widnes, England, on October 17, 1922. On September 1, 1945 he married Bridget Anne Glavin. They and their daughter Joan immigrated to the United States in 1952 where they joined his sister, Mary Weston, in Ogden, Utah. Children Janet, Julie Anne, Theresa and Thomas Michael were born in Utah. In 1975 Joe was transferred to Colorado, and subsequently moved to California. His childrens unions extended the family; he loved and welcomed Steve Bell, Jean Bell, and children Kevin, Jeff and Megan; Todd Gracyk and child Joe Gracyk; Rick Parkinson and children Kelsey and Lindsay; Doug Cox and children Zachary and Nigel; and Pearl del Rosario. His daughter, Joan, preceded him in death in 1985 and his wife, Anne, in 1987. In 1988 he married Patricia Maxine Hawley (/nee/ Kennedy). Ada Weedop Gibbs Sunday, September 11, 2005 KAYSVILLE - It was a good day to die. September 9, 2005, the sun was a brilliant yellow disc warming everyone it shone on. The azure sky prepared to take a beautiful spirit. Ada Weedop Gibbs laughed, sang, ran and for the first time in 20 years, saw the clouds. Ada was born in Lost River, Idaho on August 2, 1924 to goodly parents Henry and Nellie Weedop. Later they moved to Rupert, Idaho, where she graduated in 1942. Good fortune and World War II led her to work at Hill Field, where she met the only man she ever loved, Donald Joseph Gibbs. They were married November 8, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised five children: Ennis J. Gibbs, Woodland; Sherrill Wood, SLC; Shauna Blasingame, SLC; Brooks Gibbs, Alpine; and Valene Gibbs, Layton. She was preceded by her parents, brothers Owen and Ralph, and sister Ruth. She is survived by her husband and children, sisters Irene Call and Nadine Buttars, 13 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren. Ada had a zest for life burnished by the joy she found in her family. Family activities were a time for laughter and singing. She enjoyed painting, handiwork, candy making, games, boating, camping, teaching by example and loving the grandkids. During her life she contributed in so many ways. She was a hard worker, helping Don support the family with part-time jobs, full-time jobs, and the never-ending cherry picking. Eighty-one years later, the world is a better place because she tended her little corner of it. Albert Hunyar Sunday, September 11, 2005 SUNSET - Albert Hunyar, 84, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2005 at his home. He was born September 20, 1920 in Potiski Sveti Nikola, Yugoslavia, the son of John and Regina Rossman Hunyar. He married Ruth Evelyn Wrede, on March 11, 1944 in Buckley Field, Colorado; she passed away June 26, 2003. Albert was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp. He is a member of the Sunset 5th LDS Ward. He played the accordian, and together he and his wife entertained at many senior citizen centers. For 30 years Albert worked as an electric engineer for General Electric. He is survived by a daughter, Judy (Jerry) Pirlet of Sunset; two grandchildren, Michael Stephen and Terry Albert Kennedy and a great-grandson, Dillon Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his wife and a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Dorette Kennedy. Cremation under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Roy. Sadie Zina Jepperson Hess-Merrill Sunday, September 11, 2005 1910-2005 Sadie Zina Jepperson, Hess-Merrell born December 10, 1910 in Bear River UT quietly crossed over on September 9, 2005 in Salt Lake City. Sadie was born ninth of 13 children, all preceding her in death. Also preceding her in death were the two loves of her live, LeRoi Hess, 1955 and Elliott Merrell, 1990. Also Margo Merrell (Cameron) 1981, daughter; Jenifer Leigh Hess 2002, grandchild. Survived by her children, Karen and Gene Roper (Sandy), Richard and Lori Hess (Salt Lake), John and Rosalyn Merrell (Washington D.C.), Carolyn and Bruce Summerhays (Farmington), Bruce and Lynne Merrell (Provo), Marcia and The Honorable Donald Eyre (Nephi) and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Mother, a very special lady, always of strong will, a true survivor, a loving and caring person to all that had the privilege of knowing her.
