She was born July 24, 1975 a beautiful red haired baby to Larry Olesky and Marcia Walling. She married her high school sweetheart Dirk Barnes, and they later had a beautiful browneyed baby girl Makinzie. They were later divorced. She was a graduate from Roy High School where she was a Royalaire. Tara began dancing at the age of 4 where she instantly had an extraordinary way of portraying herself through facial expressions. She was a member of the Stars Drill Team for eight years, during which she held many titles, Miss Drill Utah, Miss Jazz Utah and Miss Cinderella Utah all before the age of 10. Tara also had a love for cars from car shows, racecars, to racing once herself burning rubber the whole way. Tara took great pride in all her professions, she approached each new challenge with a fresh creative outlook. She was a great mother, with a caring heart. Tara's pride and joy was her daughter Makinzie. She was preceded in death by her beloved nephew Tyler Dean Foulger, two grandfathers, Harry E. Moon and Joseph R. Olesky. She is survived by her daughter Makinzie; her parents, Larry (Kacy) Olesky and Marcia (Leon) Walling; one sister, Wendy (Doug) Underwood; one brother, Bevan (Kelly) Olesky; three stepsisters, Kami (Dave ) Roskelley, Kimber (Gary) Schuenman and Tandy (Paul) Wilson; three stepbrothers, Brad (Cindy) Howard, Kelly (Lisa) Walling and Johnny (Shauna) Walling; three grandmothers, Lillian (Robert) Estridge, Anna Moon and Hazel Walling, two nieces, Taylee Foulger and AubreElle Roskelley, two nephews, Jordan Gibson and Nathan Roskelley; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Tara's friends were a very important part of her life whom she loved dearly. A college fund has been set up for Makinzie at America First Credit Union under Makinzie Barnes Fund. Yates Wednesday, September 14, 2005 BRIGHAM CITY - Christena Engberson Yates, 91, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2005, in her home. She was born August 9, 1914, in Driggs, Idaho, a daughter of Alma and Eve Little Engberson. She married Joseph Lewis Yates on July 23, 1941, in the Logan LDS Temple. She lived in Driggs until the time of her marriage. After one year of marriage, she and her husband moved to Harper Ward, north of Brigham City, Utah, where they farmed and raised their children and numerous foster children. Christena is survived by 11 children: DeAnna Rae (J.R.) Johansen, who are currently serving as temple missionaries in Aba, Nigeria; Sandra (Daniel) Holdaway, Jolene (Ross) Davidson, Marguerite (Lynn) Wheeler, Joseph Dale (Barbara) Yates, Leland George (Janene) Yates, Alma James (Nicki) Yates, Christena Jo (Stephen) Reeder, David Harper (Vella) Yates, Jay Merlin (Lori) Yates and Sherry Ann (Bill) Steele; 66 grandchildren and 77 great-grandchildren. Forty of her children and grandchildren have served, or are currently serving, missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, August 2002, and by two daughters, Mary Eve and Susan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She graduated from high school in three years and was the top student in her class. She attended the University of Idaho, graduating in 1933. She taught elementary school in Driggs for eight years before her marriage. Christena was always a faithful, active Latter-day Saint. She served in many callings in the Church in Relief Society, Primary, M.I.A., Sunday School, and as a stake missionary. Her family was her greatest joy. She taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ through teaching and by example, and she has provided a legacy of faith, sacrifice, and love for her beloved posterity. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City North Stake Center, 620 N. 300 E., Brigham City. Interment will be in the Calls Fort Cemetery. Ada Weedop Gibbs Wednesday, September 14, 2005 KAYSVILLE - It was a good day to die. September 9, 2005, the sun was a brilliant yellow disc warming everyone it shone on. The azure sky prepared to take a beautiful spirit. Ada Weedop Gibbs laughed, sang, ran and for the first time in 20 years, saw the clouds. Ada was born in Lost River, Idaho on August 2, 1924 to goodly parents Henry and Nellie Weedop. Later they moved to Rupert, Idaho, where she graduated in 1942. Good fortune and World War II led her to work at Hill Field, where she met the only man she ever loved, Donald Joseph Gibbs. They were married November 8, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised five children: Ennis J. Gibbs, Woodland; Sherrill Wood, SLC; Shauna Blasingame, SLC; Brooks Gibbs, Alpine; and Valene Gibbs, Layton. She was preceded by her parents, brothers Owen and Ralph, and sister Ruth. She is survived by her husband and children, sisters Irene Call and Nadine Buttars, 13 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren. Ada had a zest for life burnished by the joy she found in her family. Family activities were a time for laughter and singing. She enjoyed painting, handiwork, candy making, games, boating, camping, teaching by example and oving the grandkids. During her life she contributed in so many ways. She was a hard worker, helping Don support the family with part-time jobs, full-time jobs, and the never-ending cherry picking. Eighty-one years later, the world is a better place because she tended her little corner of it. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville Fairfield Chapel, 1085 N. 50 East. Judd Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Everett William Judd, born in Henefer, Utah on May 4, 1919, died on September 10, 2005 at Manor Care of Ogden. Everett, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend has lived in the Ogden area for most of his life. He was the son of Myrtle Stephens and Herschel Judd. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Reba and their three children Mike (Ann) Judd of Ogden, Anna Judd (Mike) Edwards of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Philip (Sharon) Judd of Ogden, as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Beth (Marv) Felt of Ogden and Glen Judd, of St. George. Preceding him in death were his sisters, Faye Woods Hoyal and Katharine Olsen Dillman and brother Douglas Judd. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the LDS Church, and retired from Hill Air Force Base. He was an avid golfer and had many other varied interests such as acting, inventor, church choir director, Boy Scout leader, and supportive grandfather. He will be very much missed. Robert P. Ekins Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Robert Parry Ekins, 66, died Thursday, September 8, 2005 at his home. Funeral Directors, Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary. Patti Carlson Brown Wednesday, September 14, 2005 Patti Carlson Browns' adventure in life started on August 15, 1950 and ended September 12, 2005. She was born in Ogden, Utah to Don A. and Donna Burrie Carlson. She lived in Ogden and attended school there until 1963. The family moved to Brigham City where she attended Box Elder High school, was active in cheerleading and graduated in 1968. Patti married David K. Brown and together they had two wonderful children, Tim and Jody. She had a successful 30 year career in the banking industry. She had worked for Zions Bank and at the time of her death she was a Vice-President of Private Banking at Bank of the West in Layton. She truly loved her job, the wonderful clients and the people she worked with. Although Patti was diagnosed with terminal cancer in June 2005, she was excited to have been here for the arrival of her third grandson, baby Kru. She enjoyed golfing, her home, taking care of her yard and her annual family trip to Bear Lake. Her greatest joy in life was being "Granny" to her three grandsons. The boys will miss her endless support, her smiling face and her presence at all of their games. Richard Peter Vellinga Wednesday, September 14, 2005 SYRACUSE - Our dearly beloved Richard Peter Vellinga passed peacefully from this life at his home on September 9, 2005 after a short battle with esophageal cancer. Richard was born the fifth of thirteen children to Clarence and Arlene Davis Vellinga on March 11, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. He attended Ogden Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1965 and Weber State College in 1972. He was a gifted student in math, science, and art. He spent his teenage summers working at Smith's Ranch in Ruby Valley, Nevada and carried many fond memories of his adventures there. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony throughout his life, manifested not only by his service in the Church, but even more by his loving attitude and constant service to all that he met. He was truly a man without guile and loved everyone unconditionally. He served a mission in Samoa from 1966-1968 and treasured his experiences there. On December 23, 1973 he married Guenn Adare Richardson in the Logan Temple. They had four children who became the center of his life. They lived in Corrine, Lakeshore and Santaquin. They were later divorced. On November 23, 1999 he married Elaine McDowell Ottley and also dearly loved her six children. Richard worked at Thiokol Corporation from 1974 to 1978 and then spent the rest of his life building and remodeling for others. He and his brothers formed Vellinga Brothers Construction and he later owned Vel-built Construction in Utah County and Richard Vellinga Enterprises in Davis County. Many friends and loved ones treasure the beautiful handiwork that he produced for them in the construction of their homes. He recently built a beautiful home for his wife and family, which has greatly blessed their lives. Richard's greatest possessions were his family including his wife and children, parents, brothers and sisters and many extended family members. He had a great reverence and love for all that God created. He was a man living in the world but not of the world. We will miss so much his big hugs and warm personality. He was a mighty oak in our lives. He was preceded in death by his parents and by an older brother, Johnny. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and his children, Adrian, Jessica, Richard Peter (Sumer), Mary Guenn Vellinga, and Angela, Darren (Tina), Ryan (Aisa), Emily (Dale) Barry, David, and Ashley Ottley, and his grandchildren, Madison, Ike, Jet, Jadyn, Richard Scott, David and Avery. He is also survived by brothers and sisters Clarence (Annette), Clifford (Kathy), Joyce (Richard) Lindsley, Roy (Linda), Michael (Pam), Lynn (Sandy), Karen (Craig) Shurtleff, Bruce (Val), Janette (Reid) Peterson, Mary (Don) Belnap, and Ross (Beth) Vellinga. Al Thackeray Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - A.J. Al Thackeray went to live with his Heavenly Father on September 12, 2005 after a valiant fight with cancer. Al was born November 27, 1924, Thanksgiving Day, in Ogden, UT to Leah Nelson and Alma Thackeray. He attended Ogden schools and Weber College. He married his life-long partner, Jean Palmer, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 27, 1946. Al retired from Hill Air Force Base on January 5, 1980 as a weapon system logistic officer. His family and grandchildren were the most important things in his life. His interests included traveling, bowling and spending time at their mountain property with family. He was a high priest in the LDS Church. Survived by his wife, Jean; son, Kevin (Susan) Thackeray; grandsons Travis (Kim) Lewis, one great granddaughter, Andrea Lewis; Clinton (Jessica) Thackeray, Nick (Sheryl) Thackeray, and Cory Thackeray; one brother Jay (Coy) Thackeray; one sister Barbara (Art) Headley, an aunt, Katherine Putnam, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda Lewis, two brothers and a sister. Al was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by all that knew him. Lonnie Lee Rasmussen Wednesday, September 14, 2005 PLYMOUTH - Lonnie Lee Rasmussen, 21, returned home to finish his mission Sunday, September 11, 2005 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 18, 1984 to Micheal Ray Rasmussen and Dalinda Doreen Lane in Ogden, Utah. He lived in Perry until he was 16 moving to Plymouth in 2000 to live with his older brother, Chris and his family. He is a 2002 graduate of Bear River High School and LDS Seminary after which he joined the Army Reserves and served in Belize. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served a mission in Houston, TX from July 2003-July 2005. He attended USU in Logan and was returning to Army Reserve Duty when the accident occurred. He worked as a hod carrier for his father and with his older brother. He enjoyed snowboarding, golf and basketball. Lonnie touched the lives of everyone he met and left a lasting impression on those he knew. Lonnie is survived by his parents, two brothers: Chris (Katie), Plymouth, and Logan, Brigham City; four sisters: Cari, Plymouth, Lisa, (Twin) (boyfriend, John) Ogden, Melinda, Brigham City and Kelsey, Perry; his grandmother: Leona Lane, Brigham City; one nephew: Treyson; two nieces: Kassi and Karli; and the love of his life: Amanda Munns, Garland. Kay Ellis Johnson Thomas Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Our beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, auntie and best friend, Kay Thomas, age 62, died Friday, September 9, 2005 at a local hospital from complications of Juvenile Diabetes. Kay was born February 21, 1943 in Richfield, Utah, to Harry Ellis and Gladys Carver Johnson. Her family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho and then to Ogden where she attended Ogden High and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. She also attended Weber State College in the cosmetology program. Kay married William Leo Thomas, Jr. on July 29, 1962 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. He died January 2, 1994. Following Bill's death, Kay returned to Ogden where she resided for the remainder of her life. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kay worked as a LPN in Phoenix, Arizona for a number of years. Kay was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Delight. She was an avid collector of dolls, Snoopy memorabilia, and clocks. Surviving are two daughters, Jackie Lynn (Eric) Cole, Colorado Springs, CO; Paula Kay (Phillip) Lindsey, Broomfield, CO; one son, William Ellis "Bud" Thomas, Thornton, CO; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson due in October. Also surviving are three sisters, Jacquelyn (Tom) Davidson, Monterey, WA; Caril (Gene) Staten, Layton; Julie (David) Beard, Brigham City; and a special aunt, Julia Carver, Salt Lake City. Cindy Campbell Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Cindy Coon Campbell, 47, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Ogden Regional Medical Center, from complications of Lupus. She was born November 19, 1957 in Salt Lake City to Evan Legrande and Janice Petersen Coon. She married Stephen Hugh Campbell on September 7, 1979 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Cindy was a member of the Mound Fort Ward, she loved to serve the Young Women of the church. She loved being the mom to her children and all of their friends. She was always supportive and loyal to her children. She enjoyed cross-stitch and embroidery. She served as a volunteer at Lynn Elementary School for many years. Cindy will be remembered as a cheerful, positive, loving wife and mother. Surviving are her husband, Stephen H. Campbell of Ogden; two sons and one daughter, Michael Stephen (Selene) Campbell, Jonathan David (Meagan) Campbell, and Kathryn Michelle Campbell, all of Ogden; and Sabrina Aldrin, who was like a daughter; one grandson, Colin; and her parents, Evan and Janice Coon of Erda, Utah. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Glade (LaDean) Coon; Shelly (Alan) Johnson; Joan (Kelly) Painter; Joe (Krystal) Coon; Paula (Red) Lee; Terri (Bryant) Pehrson; and her loving dog, Leipshin. Pelusi Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Albert James Pelusi, 76, returned peacefully to his Heavenly Father with his loved ones at his side, on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at his home in Ogden, Utah. Albert was born in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, to Domenico Giuseppe and Theresa Marie Dinolfi Pelusi. He graduated from Bridgeport High School Class of 1948. Albert was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Alaska during the Korean War. After his service with the Army, he came to Salt Lake City where he found the love of his life, Melba Jean Sipple. Returning to Pennsylvania, they were married on September 17, 1955, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bridgeport. Their vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked at Burrow's Office Machines and GE Electric as a draftsman. He later returned to Utah where he retired from Hill Air Force Base in November of 1991. Albert loved the game of tennis and beat anyone he played. He loved fishing and archery hunting and making his own arrows. He was also an avid golfer, racquetball player and skier, working as a volunteer ski patrolman at Powder Mountain Ski Resort for 15 years. Albert and Melba loved to squaredance and were with the Hill Toppers, Ace of Clubs and Quarter Promenades. They raised five children and included them in everything they loved. The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Porter Family Practice, and a very special thanks to Dr. Stephen Scharmann, who was a long term care provider and friend, as well as Harmony Hospice for the tender care during his final days. Albert is survived by his wife of 50 years and his children, Dawn (Earnest) Martin, Michelene (Lynn) Horspool, Steven Pelusi, Stacy (Troy) Christensen, Christopher (Sherri) Pelusi, 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Michael James, his parents, brother Ralph and sister-inlaw Rose, sister Rose Marie, and his in-laws Charles Henry and Mural Sipple. Ervona L. Wheeler Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Ervona Louise Wheeler, 89, died Sunday, September 11, 2005 at her home in Ogden. She was born September 2, 1916 in Garden City, Utah a daughter of William E. and Lucile Negus Payne. On August 27, 1936, Ervona married Arnold Shannon Wheeler in Logan. Arnold preceded her in death on December 17, 1971. She married Robert Malinoski on April 25, 1986 in Ogden. He died January 15, 2003. She was raised and educated in Garden City, graduating from North Rich High School. She moved to Trenton, Utah in 1936 and to Ogden in 1942. Ervona was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the MIA program. She enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping, gardening and traveling. She also loved to dance. Ervona volunteered for Senior Citizens. Surviving are three sons and one daughter, Garth A. Wheeler, Ogden; Earl L. Wheeler, Idaho Falls, ID; Darwin J. Wheeler, Ogden; Sharol L. Burnam, Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Marvin L. Payne and Robert M. Payne, both of Ogden. Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, one sister Flora, and two brothers, Ross and Earl. Donehoo Sr. and Zelda (Margeret) Bruner in Marion Ohio on September 11th 1947. He is preceded in death by his mother Zelda Donehoo and sister Sheryl Donehoo. He is survived by his father, Don C. Donehoo Sr., Wife Heather Donehoo, Son Cole Donehoo, Daughters Angie Wingert (Buz), Tracey Langston (Jeremy), Brother's Mike Donehoo (Amy), Pat Donehoo (Lori), Grandsons Quin, Cameron and Ian. Parents in law David and Dorothy Anderson, Nieces and Nephews. Don attended Weber High School and Weber State University. He served with the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. He was employed at Bountiful Lincoln Mercury and has had a successful career over many years in the automobile industry. Don loved taking rides on his motorcycle, boating and traveling to new places. Don lived with enthusiasm and always saw the positive in every situation. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He loved to win no matter what the game was. Don touched many lives and none of us will ever be the same without him. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 15, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates. Barker Wednesday, September 14, 2005 OGDEN - Ruth Sheffield Barker, 84, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Manor Care Nursing Center. She was born October 22, 1920 in Brigham City, Utah, the daughter of Charles Nephi and Lula Hudson Sheffield. Ruth married LaMar W. Barker on December 19, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had two children, Paul Wayne and Brad Clifford. Ruth worked as a beautician until she joined LaMar in Fort Knox, Kentucky, where she continued working during World War II. Ruth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including Primary Teacher, First Counselor, Second Counselor and Secretary in the Primary over a period of years. She and LaMar served as Dance Directors for several years. She also taught in the Young Womens. She enjoyed golfing, painting, ceramics and especially reading. The family wishes to thank Virginia and the staff at Manor Care for the kind and considerate care they gave to Ruth. Surviving are her husband of Ogden; two sons, Paul W. (Nancy) Barker, Dearborn Heights, MI; Brad C. (Ann) Barker, Pleasant Grove, UT; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were here parents, two brothers and one sister. She was the only daughter of Thomas Angus and Gladys Richins, born January 21, 1920. A private family graveside service was held yesterday. Lorna Parks Benson Wednesday, September 14, 2005 WASHINGTON TERRACE -Lorna Parks Benson, 81, passed away Friday, September 9, 2005 following a long, courageous battle with diabetes. She was born November 13, 1923 in Riverside, Idaho, the first child of Rulon R. and Martha VanOrden Parks. Lorna grew up in Riverside and graduated from Moreland High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Rex E. Benson on January 16, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and active in the Washington Terrace 5th Ward. She served well in many church positions: Stake Primary worker, Ward Relief Society President and as Teacher in several classes, including Gospel Doctrine. She graduated from the Ogden, Utah Institute of Religion. Lorna served in the Charlotte North Carolina Mission where she enjoyed her service and the many new friends she made there. She also worked for over six years in the Ogden Temple. She thoroughly enjoyed her service and associations in the holy temple and cultivated an unusual knowledge of the gospel there. Lorna was an excellent gardener and loved to work in her flower garden. Her roses were gorgeous and many people commented on how beautiful they were. Although Lorna had various occupations in her life, her first job was with her family. She received a certificate for putting her husband through college. She was active in politics and served many years as an election judge. She also worked at a nursing home where she cared for many patients. Being a very compassionate person, Lorna insisted on providing loving, long-term, geriatric care for three of her family members in her home. Surviving are her husband, Rex E. Benson, Washington Terrace; one son and seven daughters, Rulon (Linda) Benson, Roy; Pamela Stanger, Sunset; Lesa Benson, Washington Terrace; Yvonne Jones, Saratoga Springs, Utah; Phyllis (Robert) Williamson, Roy; Marie (Robb) Judkins, West Haven; Celia (Dennis) Horne, Clearfield; Stephanie (Patrick) Ring, Salt Lake City; 24 grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth (Gail) Parks, Ammon, Idaho; Raymond (Paula) Parks, Moreland, Idaho; and two sisters, Verla Sasser, Pingry, Idaho; Delores (Marvin) Pitman, Pocatello, Idaho. Lorna was preceded in death by: her father and mother, Rulon and Martha Parks, a son, Alva Henry Benson and three brothers, Dean, Clifford and Marvin Parks. Lorna was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. We will certainly miss her. The family wishes to thank Bentley McEntire, M.D., Tyler Dixon, M.D., and the many other doctors and nurses at McKay-Dee Hospital who were caring and helpful in taking care of Lorna during her stay at the hospital. We also wish to thank Dr. Jason Bruse and Dr. Ross Kelson for their kind attention they gave Lorna while under their care. We also wish to thank the team of helpful individuals who came from Applegate Home Care and Hospice to help take good care of her early on. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU.
