GEORGE - Ardis Jeppsen Piers, our beautiful mother, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 18, 2005. She was born on January 2, 1924, in Roy, Utah to educators Norman Nels and Josie Delores Jeppsen. She spent most of her childhood in Mantua, Utah. She graduated from Box Elder High School and received her associate degree from Weber State College in 1945. She was married to prominent Ogden Architect John L. Piers on March 3, 1945, who was at that time serving in the United States Navy. After his release from the service, they lived in Los Angeles California, where he finished his education at the University of Southern California and they started a family. Returning to Ogden, Utah in 1952, she was an active member in the Ogden Junior League, the Drama Club of Ogden, and the Ogden Golf and Country Club. She worked in the architectural office for all of the years that her husband practiced in Ogden, Utah. Along with many of their Ogden friends, they made St. George/Bloomington their second home. They moved there permanently in 1987. They loved to play golf together and enjoyed the friendships that they made in their retirement. She was a member of the Bloomington Country Club and the Third Ward of the LDS Church. They celebrated their fifty-second wedding anniversary prior to his death in 1997. Ardis is survived by two daughters, Susan Piers Taylor of San Juan Capistrano, CA, and Mary Rae Hunter of Durham, NC. She has five grandchildren, J.B. Taylor, Ashley Taylor Park, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Gretchen Hunter MacIver, John Piers Hunter, and Taylor Gwyn Hunter of Durham, NC. She has two great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her sisters Karma Dixon, Gloria Dyches, Clarice Williams, and Arnell Jeanselme. She is also survived by her brother Jay N. Jeppsen. Ardis Piers loved her family and her friends above all else. She had and independent spirit as well as an avid interest in current events, politics, and finance. From the time that she was a young girl, until she passed away, she was the essence of style and grace. Her smile is unforgettable. There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Dr. in St. George, on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. The grave will be dedicated by her grandson, James Bradley Taylor, Jr. Merle Otis Fisher Thursday, September 22, 2005 Together Again LAYTON - Merle Otis Fisher, born June 2, 1941 in Greeley, Colorado, passed away September 21, 2005, after a courageous fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Fisher; his children, Todd, Dawn, Lyle, Amy, James and Mary; his step-children, Frank, Mary Lou, Mindy, Holly, Chris, James and Bill; 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Merle served active duty in the Air Force for four years as an aircraft repairman. He retired from civil service after 38 years at Hill Air force Base. He enjoyed hunting and had a passion for cars, especially rebuilding his '67 Chevy trucks. He was a proud member of the NRA. Merle joined the LDS Church as a young man. He and Mary prepared themselves faithfully to serve a mission in Berlin, Germany, and did so valiantly. Merle believed in and always lived the gospel to its fullest. The testimony and example that he set for his children will live through them for eternity. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Layton Creekside Stake Center, 1480 W. Phillips, Kaysville, UT. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery. Merle will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Hayden Claine Hawkins Thursday, September 22, 2005 CLINTON - On September 16, 2005 Our sweet little Hayden returned back to Heavenly Father. He left his parents Claine and Julianne Hawkins, two sisters Kamryn and Taylor of Clinton; grandparents Clyde and Lorraine Hawkins of Mapleton; Steven and Karan Clawson of Orem. Maxine Stewart Robbins Thursday, September 22, 2005 LAYTON - Maxine Stewart Robbins, 89, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Peach Tree Place in West Haven. Maxine was born March 27, 1916 in Manila, Utah to Erza Wall and Charlotte Francom Stewart. She married Loren Robbins January 28, 1935 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away December 25, 1998. Maxine lived in Payson, Hawthorne, CA and Layton for the last 61 years. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, serving in many callings, mostly involving music. She was very talented playing the piano and organ and leading many church choirs. She worked at Layton Cold Storage for 7 years and Kowley Drug for 22 years. She also taught piano lessons for many years. She loved spending time with her family and always thought of others. Surviving are two children, Roland (Afton) Robbins and Jeanene (Duane ) Child; seven grandchildren, Curtis (Teri) Child, Kristin (Ron) Elinkowski, Eric (Michele) Child, Travis (Courtney) Child, Laurie (Craig) Cruz, Quin (Kathy) Robbins, and Shellie (Howard) Vanfleet; 19 greatgrandchildren, and three greatgreat- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Park Street LDS Chapel, 275 Park, Layton, with Bishop David McClurg, officiating. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road, and from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Jeri Code Holbrook Jones Thursday, September 22, 2005 OGDEN - Our beloved mother, grandma and sister, Jeri, died at the age of 63, Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at home surrounded by the people she cherished, following a valiant battle with colon cancer. She was born April 2, 1942 in Ogden, a daughter of John Robert and Dorothy Frances Linton Code. She grew up in Sunset and Roy, and later lived in Bountiful, Riverdale, Liberty and Ogden. Jeri loved music, dancing, the theater, traveling, gardening and decorating. Jeri's most precious moments were spent with her family and friends. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints her entire life. She served in many callings, her favorite being Music Director. Jeri was the owner/operator of Jerico Enterprises. On March 4, 1963, Jeri married Joseph B. Holbrook in the Logan LDS Temple. He died April 17, 1969. She married Richard Larry Jones in July of 1988. They later divorced. Surviving are her children, Stephen Michael Holbrook, Ogden; Joey Lyn (Ed) Clayson, Tooele; Troy Holbrook, Ogden; Heather (Kerry) Doutre, Riverdale; five grandchildren and one on the way. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters, Robert Michael Code, Roy; John Robert (Sherri) Code, Gilbert, AZ; Peggy (Michael) Knowles, Clinton; Sharon (Dale) Sansom, Farmington; Melody (Douglas) Vandenberg, Layton. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Bountiful Memorial Park.
