Evan was born September 21, 1960 in Ogden, Utah, a son of H. Lisle and Luella May Johnson Parker. Evan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an LDS mission to London, England. He held various callings including: Elders Quorum President, member of the High Council, and was currently serving in the Young Men's Presidency. After serving his mission, he married his high school sweetheart Tammy Reid on November 20, 1981 in the Ogden LDS Temple. They were blessed with six beautiful children. He was an avid farmer for all of his life. He loved teaching the skills he acquired as a farmer to his students at Utah State University. He was awarded the Teacher of the Year in 1995, and he will be recognized this week as Advisor of the Year in the College of Agriculture at U.S.U. He always cherished spending time with his family. Among some of his favorite family activities were boating and camping. He loved people and always enjoyed helping anyone who needed it. He enjoyed his students and was always helping them as well. He is survived by his wife, Tammy; four sons, Skyler Evan (Tera), Pocatello, ID; Landon Parel, Tavan Holt and Chance Carlisle all from Hooper; two daughters, Sevana (Geoff) Hasty, Ramah, NM; Tiara, Logan; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, three brothers, Curtis, Alan and Dale Parker; three sisters, Beverly Bailey, Shanna Grow and Ada Foy. Evan was preceded in death by his father and father-in-law. E mail condolences to the family at lrm@lindquistmortuary.com Lynn Eric Smith Wednesday, September 28, 2005 OGDEN - Lynn Eric Smith, beloved husband, son, father, uncle, grandfather and friend passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at University of Utah Hospital at the age of 59. Eric was born on September 29, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Lynn Elbert and Mary Lorene Smith. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1963. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He served with the 3rd Special Forces Group, Airborne Division, as a combat engineer. Following a short marriage and divorce, he met Linda E. Howard, a widowed mother of two children, Brian and Debbie Howard. Linda and Eric were married on June 28th 1974 and added a third child of their own, Daniel Eric Smith, in 1978. Eric attended Central Missouri State University where he earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Arts education and went on to complete a masters degree in Industrial Safety. Eric worked as an industrial safety engineer for almost 25 years. He worked with Argonne National Laboratories in Chicago prior to moving to Utah in 1986 to work for Thiokol Corporation. He later started his own business and continued to work until his death. Eric was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was ordained to the office of Priest. Eric was a man of superior integrity and honesty and was known as a person of trust and dependability. He was respected and loved by all that knew him. Eric was a gentle and caring person who achieved great satisfaction in helping others. His passion was woodworking, building, and repair work. He also enjoyed wave running, and spending time with his grandson. He loved to teach and share his skills, knowledge and experience. Eric had a unique personality and sense of humor that will truly be missed. He is survived by his loving wife Linda, two sons Brian Howard and Daniel Eric Smith, and daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Brad Browning and their son Zachary; his brother David H. Smith, (CA) Jeni-Vee Smith, nieces Jenifer, Stephanie, and Kimberly Smith; sister Nancy Newland Smith (AZ) nieces Heather and Shannon, and their families; and two half sisters, Linda Brown and family, and Elaine Lenhart and family. He was born October 4, 1982, in Layton, Utah to Wayne Marshall and Jane McDermott McEntire. Ryan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he earned his Eagle Scout Award and served a full time mission in the Washington Seattle Mission. He always had a smile. He loved hunting, nature and life. Ryan is survived by his fiancee, Emily Kunz, daughter of Bart and Denice Kunz, Star Valley, Wyoming; his parents, Wayne and Jane, West Point; three brothers, Luke, Dan and Ron, all of West Point; two sisters, Sarah and Kate, both of West Point; and his grandmothers, Waldene McDermott, Syracuse; and Edna McEntire, Clearfield. He was born in Tremonton June 6, 1984 to Clark Burt and Ann- Marie Yates Huggins. Justin was reared and educating in Bear River City graduating from Bear River High School. He attended one year at College of Eastern Utah in Price. He served an honorable mission in the Florida Tampa LDS Mission returning June 30, 2005. He was a sophomore at USU in Logan. He worked with his father on the family farm in Bear River City. Justin lived and loved baseball. He was an Elder in the Bear River City First Ward. She was born January 27, 1920 in Long Beach, California, a daughter of David Jesse and Gwendolyn Cook Boyce. On September 15, 1936, Mary married Emlet E. Streight in Randolph, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He died January 27, 1969. In June of 1969, she married James W. "Bill" Wilson in Afton, Wyoming. He died January 26, 1990. She had lived in Jackson and Kemmerer, Wyoming; Plain City, Roy, Ogden, Big Piney, Wyoming, and in Ogden. Mary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. She was dog groomer and raised and bred poodles. Mary was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed gardening, camping, her dogs and quilting. Surviving are one son and two daughters, Michael David Streight, Las Vegas, NV; Evangelyn I. Rees, and Tamara Y. Raymond, both of Ogden; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and seven great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Bohn Leland Streight, four brothers and three sisters. Hope Riding Porter Wednesday, September 28, 2005 LAYTON - Hope passed away September 23, 2005 at the McKay Dee Hospital after a short illness. She was born on June 27, 1959 and attended Clearfield schools. She married Merle Riding and they later divorced. She later married Todd Porter who preceded her in death. Surviving are her father; three sons, Blair, Tyler and Christian; two brothers, Vince (Sheila) Granado and Bobby Granado; also many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her mother, Cora Del Rio, her brother, Lester Del Rio and a sister, Madeline Romero also preceded her in death. Leatherow Wednesday, September 28, 2005 NORTH OGDEN - William Earl Leatherow, 84, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 18, 1921 in Canton, Ohio, a son of Virgil and Idella Lydle Leatherow. Bill married Barbara Garner on December 23, 1939 in Ogden. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1957. He came to Utah in 1938 with the CCC's. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was wounded in combat on Iwo Jimo and received a Purple Heart. Bill was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. He worked for the O.U.R. & D. Railroad for 39 years and served as the switchman Union Leader for 23 years. Bill was a skilled craftsman in woodworking. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. Surviving are his wife Barbara, two sons, Wayne E. (Sandy) Leatherow and Don E. (Miriam) Leatherow, all of North Ogden; one daughter, Gaylyne (James) Hurst, Roy; daughter-in-law, Glenna Leatherow, 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Daniel A. Dunning Wednesday, September 28, 2005 Our beloved son, brother, father and grandson, Daniel A. Dunning 23, joined his Father in Heaven on Saturday, September 24, 2005. He passed away in an auto accident. He was born January 22, 1982 in Ogden, Utah to Eric and Lauri Dunning. He lived in Evanston, Wyoming all of his life. He worked several different places. He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, and loved anything to do with trucks, 4 wheeling and snowmobiling. Stokes Wednesday, September 28, 2005 MALAD - Jimmy Loren Stokes, 65, of Malad and longtime Curlew Valley resident, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2005 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. He was born April 20, 1940 in Tremonton, Utah, a son of William LeRoy and Edith Mills Stokes. He was raised in Tremonton and attended Bear River Sigh School. He married Myrna Scott in the Logan LDS Temple and they were later divorced. Jimmy had worked at Thiokol and Utility Trailer Co. He was forced to retire early due to ill health (Mulitple Sclerosis). He was 45 years old. He is survived by his mother, LaVon S Jones; his siblings, Beverly Miller, Betty (Jim) Barney, James W Jones III and Don (Ria) Jones Bonnie Jones; his children Adam and Elana and his nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Jones Jr. He attended several schools in Northern Utah. He was a certified hunter safety instructor. He worked for Thiokol, Profit Foods and Weyer- Livsey Construction until he became disabled. He also worked in sales, security, and as a "roadie" for music groups. He liked to make people smile and laugh. His hobbies were rodeos, amateur and CB radio. He was a member of the Utah Box Elder Thiokol Amateur Radio Club. His CB handle was "Champion". He liked to volunteer in various community projects such as Peach Days and emergency simulations. He enjoyed hunting, martial arts, motorcycle riding and electronics. His favorite cartoon character was Snoopy. He will be interred in Malad City Cemetery on Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. Viewing at noon at Horsley Mortuary in Malad. Box 400, Garland, UT 84312 Fredrick (Fred) Berendse Wednesday, September 28, 2005 Fredrick (Fred) Berendse, 86, died peacefully on September 24, 2005 surrounded by his family at Fountain Springs Health Care, Rapid City, SD. Fred was born on August 19, 1919 in Heerlen Netherlands to Frederick and Antonio Berendse. He served in the Dutch Marines during WW II. He married Elizabeth (Beth) Margarethe Roest on September 11, 1948 in Baarn Netherlands. Together with two young sons they immigrated to the United States in March, 1950. They settled in Ogden, Utah, where Fred worked as a painter and later co-owned a paint contracting business. They moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in June, 1972 where Fred successfully owned and operated Fred Berendse & Sons Painting Company. He was an avid bowler, loved sports and enjoyed fishing. Fred was a member of the Cathedral of Perpetual Help where he enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, who died Oct. 12, 1986 after 38 years of marriage and one sister, Antonio Koster (Netherlands). Survivors include three sons and two daughters, George (Sheran) Hartog (Ogden, UT); Fred (Linda) Berendse Jr. (Rapid City); Tony (Vickie) Berendse (Rapid City); Margaret (Francis) Lawler (Ogden) and Sandy (Kirk) Dulany (Rapid City); two sisters, Corry Van Veen (Netherlands and Marie Berendse (Netherlands); 17 grandchildren and 27 greatgrandchildren. Olive, the youngest of nine children, was born July 27, 1914 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to William John and Margaret Annie Richardson Kirk. She attended the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden as a residential student from 1922 to 1936. In September of 1936 she married William Clem Sevy and moved to Panguitch, Utah. They had two children, Betty Jean and William Clem Sevy, Jr. They were later divorced. On November 23, 1946, she married Marvin Hales Stanley in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. They had two children, Linda Lee and Richard Franklin Stanley Olive's greatest attribute was her unconditional love for her family. She always expressed her thankfulness for anything that was done for her. Though she was born deaf and later became blind, she never saw herself as anything but blessed. Her graciousness and sweet spirit endeared her to all who knew her leaving a long lasting impression on them. Olive was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints Ogden Deaf Branch. Surviving are her children, Betty (John) Hall, Hooper; William (Pat) Sevy, South Ogden; Linda (Wayne) Williams, North Ogden; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was born May 7, 1935 in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Brott. She married Jack Neuendorf on June 14, 1953 in Indiana. They later divorced. She then married Duane Jensen on August 4, 1975 in Mt. Vernon, Washington. Duane passed away May 10, 2002. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School. She was a longtime resident and lived in Bremerton, WA and moved to Utah in 2002. She use to be very active with square dancing and belong to the Hi- Steppers in Washington. She enjoyed sewing and made a lot of outfits for the Hi-Steppers. Surviving are her children: Eduard (Teresa) Neuendorf, Clearfield; Dan Neuendorf, Mt. Vernon, WA; John Neuendorf, Belfair, WA; Robert Neuendorf, Colfax, IA; Victoria (Ron) Lanfountain, FL; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Carol Parker Jones Wednesday, September 28, 2005 HOOPER - Carol LaVern Parker Jones passed away at her home Sunday, September 25, 2005 of liver cancer. She was born July 26, 1934, to Vern C. and Reta Rigby Parker. Carol attended Hooper School through Jr. High, graduating from Weber High School and Seminary. She received an Associate degree from Weber College and Henager Business College. Carol married Darwin Jones on July 26, 1967 in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1971, much joy was added to their lives with the addition of a beautiful baby girl, Ann. Carol loved music and enjoyed singing with her six sisters, the Parker Sisters. Before she became a mother Carol was employed at Western Auto, First Security Bank and part time at the Country Club Theater. Later in life she worked at IRS and for Davis County School Lunch Program. Always an active member of the LDS church, Carol held many positions including President of the YWMIA, Jr. Sunday School Chorister, Primary Secretary, President of the Ward Choir, worker of Family History extractions and Church Magazine Representative. She was a faithful Visiting Teacher for much of her adult life. For 17 years she served as Hooper First Ward Librarian. Carol spent much of her life in volunteer service early, working on the State Bookmobile. She was an active member of the Hooper Farm Bureau and served faithfully with the Hooper Horse Show and Tomato Days. Later years have found her serving and really enjoying the Hooper Senior Citizens group. Carol is survived by her husband Darwin, daughter Ann (Sean) Jones and her two grandchildren that she adored, Jacob and Shyann; Sisters Catherine Garner, Florence Allen, Marion Allen and LaRae (Tom) Ewing, all of Hooper. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Genevieve Johnston and Dona Paice Taylor; and her Father and Mother-in-law Edsel and Valeda Jones.
