Pate Cemetery Location: .3 mile south of Cismont, Va., on Route #231; thence 1.9 miles southwest on Route #22; thence .3 mile west on private road. Albemarle County This is a part of the Nicholas Meriwether Grant of 17,652 acres in the Year 1730 by George II and signed by William Gooch, then Governor of the Colony, the original of which is still preserved by the family. “Clover Fields” was first settled by Col. Nicholas Meriwether III, who was noted for his bravery and decision in time of danger. He was one of the four soldiers belonging to the Virginia Regiment who bore the wounded General Braddock from the field after his defeat near Pittsburg. One of the most interesting spots at “Clover Field” is the old family burying ground in one corner of the garden. Here can be read on the old tombstones most of the old Meriwethers, who have lived and died here. Charles J. Meriwether Born Sept. 16, 1797 Died Dec. 17, 1881 Wm. D.
