Johnson: 1937 Mar. 24 Research made by R. E. Hannum Cemetery Location: 4 miles north of Keene, Va., on Route #712, .4 mile west of highway. Albemarle County The plans for “Edgemont” were designed by Thomas Jefferson in 1806, being founded upon the Villa Rotunda design of Palladic. These plans and designs are in the Jefferson Collection at the University of Virginia. The cemetery is said to have been well kept but honeysuckle, poison ivy, grape vines, etc., have completely over-run it. The cemetery and garden walks were lined with English box. It is said that there is a rook wall around the lot but even this is now hidden from view by the growth of vines, which has pulled down a marble shaft and completely covered marble slabs. Some of the inscriptions in the cemetery are: James Powell Cooke Born at Malvern Hills on James River Died January 13, 1829 James Powell Cooke, Jr. Died January 20, 1812 Sarah W. Taylor Wife of Charles Cooke Died November 26, 1834
