ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA - BISHOP / BROWN INDENTURE - 1829 This Indenture made and entered into this 7th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty eight between James M. Bishop and Polly his wife of the County of Albemarle and state of Virginia of the one part and Robertson Brown of the County of Culpeper and state of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James M. Bishop and Polly his wife for and in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars paid in hand to the said James M. Bishop by the said Robertson Brown the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, they the said James M. Bishop and Polly his wife have given granted bargained and by these presents do give grant bargain and sell unto the said Robertson Brown his heirs and assignees forever all their right title and interest as grandson and legalee of Jonathan Bishop deceased of the County of Culpeper in his estate. To have and to hold said legacy in said estate of Jonathan Bishop deceased unto him the said Robertson Brown his heirs and assignees forever and the said James M. Bishop and Polly his wife for themselves and their heirs do hereby warrant and forever defend a good and lawful right to him the said Robertson Brown to the aforesaid legacy against the claim of themselves and their heirs and against the claims of all and every person or persons whatever will warrant and ever defend by these presents. In Testimony whereof the said James M. Bishop and Polly his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and date above written. Witnesses Jas. M. Jones and Opie Noms, we Justices of the Peace in the County of Albemarle and the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Mary [sic] Bishop the wife of James M. Bishop parties to a certain Deed bearing the date of the 7th day of June 1828 and hereunto a__?__ personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the Deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Mary Bishop acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared the she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and that wished not to retract it. Bishop and Polly his wife to Robertson Brown was partly proved in said office by the oaths of Benjamin and J. W. G. Wharton two of the witnesses thereto, and on the 16th day of November 1829 this said Indenture was fully proved by the oath of Adam Huffman and admitted to record. Teste J. W.
