The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Albemarle Virginia Deed Book 20 Pg 178 (Transfer of Slaves) HUMPHREY to ________HUMPHREY Know all persons whom it may concern that I David Humphrey son of the County of Albemarle and state of Virginia having allowed and allotted a certain negro woman named Mary and her five children for the children of my son Isaiah Humphrey dec'd, to wit Washington Humphrey aged 14 years last March, David Humphrey aged 12 years last February, William Humphrey aged 10 years last February, Lewis Duke Humphrey aged 8 years last February and Permelia Humphrey aged six years last February and Andrew Jackson Humphrey aged 2 years last April and it being now suggested by the widow of my said son Isaiah Humphrey who has had possession of said negroes that they are expensive and that she is not able to keep them and her children. I have therefor thought it best to give my son David possession of said negros hereby giving him a title to the said negroes to wit, Mary and her five children to wit Allen, Wilson, ?Aybsy?, Jorden and ?Melvernia? subject to the following reservation that they the said negroes shall be in all respects subject to make good to my said son Isaiah's children the sum of twelve hundred dollars in equal proportions to each of them as they come of age or there guardians to be chosen or appointed to be paid by my said David Humphrey , to said son children _______two hundred dollars each or should they want any provision ___ to support upon to be made known by their mother, Mary Humphrey, my said son David Humphrey is to furnish it which is to go in equal proportions out of each share of two hundred dollars ?there? ___ until then shall my son said be vested with a full and complete title to said negros.
