Witnesseth that the said Thomas Oglesby for and in consideration of twenty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Hugh Morris at and before signing and delivering of these presents, the receipt the said Thomas Oglesby doth hereby acknowledge, and thereof and of every part thereof doth fully and clearly exonerate and discharge the said Hugh Morris and his heirs forever and, by these presents, hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enscoffed and confirmed and, by these presents, doth sell, grant, bargain, alien, enscoff, and confirm unto the said Hugh Morris and his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the Parish of St. Ann and County of Albemarle and on the south side of Hardware River and bounded as followeth according to Letters Patent bearing date at Williamsburg the twelfth day of January, one thousand seven hundred and forty-six [12 Jan. 1746], containing two hundred acres more or less. Viz., beginning at George Damarill's corner pine running thence on his line south seventy degrees east, eight poles to a hickory on the south side of the river; thence up the same by the meanders in a right line one hundred twenty-eight poles to the above said Hugh Morris' corner white oak on the river thence on his line west one hundred and forty poles to two pines; thence on new lines south at fifty-four a branch at one hundred and sixty-six another in all one hundred and eighty poles to re-enter in George Damerill's line; thence on the same north fifty-five poles to the first station, and all the estate, right, title, interest, trust, property claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Thomas Oglesby into the premises the reversions and reversions remainder and remainder yearly and other profits of ______ to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and all and singular the premises with the appurtenances unto the said Hugh Morris and his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thomas Oglesby doth covenant with the said Hugh Morris that he the said Thomas Oglesby, his heirs, Executors, administrators, the above sold land and premises with all and every the appurtenances unto the said Hugh Morris and his heirs and assigns against the claim and demand of him the said Thomas Oglesby, his heirs, administrators, Executors, or assigns and against the claim and demand of all other person or persons whatsoever shall and will by these presents warrant and forever defend and the said Thomas Oglesby for himself and his heirs, Executors, administrators doth covenant and agree to and with the said Hugh Morris and his heirs and assigns that the said Thomas Oglesby at the time of ensealing and delivery of these presents is and stands seized of an indefensible estate of inheritance in fee simple in the said land and promises that he hath full power and authority to sell and convey the same unto the said Hugh Morris, his heirs and assigns shall and forever hereafter peacably and quietly have, hold, use, occupy, and enjoy the same and every part and parcel thereof. For witness the said, Thomas Oglesby, hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. Signed & delivered his in presence of: Thomas (X) Oglesby mark Wm. Cabell, Jun., Adrian Anglin, John Bryant Memorandum, that on the XIV day of February in the year of our Lord, MDCCXLIX, livery and seizin of the within sold land and premises was had and taken by the within said, Thomas Oglesby, and by him given and delivered to the within named Hugh Morris according to the tenor, form, and effect of the within written deed. In presence of us: his Thomas (X) Oglesby Adrian Anglin, mark John Bryant, Sen. ______ Ballon Rec'd the XIV day of February, 1749, of Hugh Morris, the sum of Twenty pounds current money of Virginia, being in full for the consideration money for the within mentioned land and premises I say received of me. his Thomas (X) Oglesby mark At a Court held for Albemarle County the 14th day of February, 1749, this indenture, memorandum of livery of seizin and receipt were acknowledged by Thomas Oglesby, one of the parties thereto, and ordered to be recorded. Mary, the wife of Thomas, being first privately examined as the law directs, voluntarily relinquishes her right of dower to the estate conveyed by the said indenture. Test. John Nicholas, Clerk
