Born Oct 1, 1915, in Batesville, he was the son of the late Harry Wilson Baber and Lucy Viola Craig Baber. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Helen Baber. Surviving are three sons, Jimmy Baber, Walter W. "Buddy" Baber and Roger Baber, all of Crozet; five brothers, Irvin R. Baber of Crozet, Early Massie Baber of Batesville, Bufort E. Baber of Logan, Tenn., Clyde H. Baber of Spring Lake, N.C., and James S. Baber of Charlottesville; three sisters, Rosa "Sis" Herron of Chesapeake, Doris C. Gentry of Scottsville and Jean Hamilton of Chesapeake; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Baber was a retired mechanic, a member of Crozet United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of Crozet Fire Department. He was a life member of White Hall Hunt Club, a member of Crozet Sportsmen Club, a member of Crozet Masonic Lodge #194 and a member of the Scottish Rite in Lynchburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II. The family suggests donations be made to a favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Anderson Funeral Home Chapel of Crozet. Funeral services will be a 11 a.m. Saturday in Crozet United Methodist Church with interment in Holly Memorial Gardens. The Rev. David Collyer and the Rev. Mike Childress will officiate. Anderson Funeral Home of Crozet is in charge of arrangements.
