To son, William Carr, one shilling three pence. I lend plantation where I now live to wife Susannah Carr during life, and 5 Negroes and increase, all stock, all household goods. At death of my wife estate to be equally divided among the following Children: Thomas Carr, Elizabeth Fitch, John Carr, Gideon Carr, Mary Carr, Micajah Carr Nancy Carr and Meekins Carr. I appoint Thomas Carr, John Carr and Micajah Carr executors. 19 Mar 1776 Affirmation by Christopher Clark Justice of Albemarle Will of Gideon Carr deceased 14 Apr 1783. James Marks. At Albemarle Court Feb 1794. The original copy of Gideon's will was destroyed when Tarleton's Calvary invaded Charlottesville, VA. seeking to capture Gov.Thomas Jefferson June 1781. Gideon's sons Thomas and Micajah Carr swear that the above copy was a true copy of Gideon Carr's will. Will of Gideon Carr June 1,1820 Albemarle County, Virginia I, Gideon Carr of Albemarle County, Virginia being perfect mind, infirm state of health, make my will. 1st pay just debts. 2nd. To Wife Ann (Sandridge) Carr, during her life or widowhood the house & tract of land where I now reside withhousehold & kitchen furniture she may deem necessary with two work horses, 3 milk cows, 10 sheep, & as many hogs & corn she thinks sufficient for support of herself and family 1 yr after my death ... balance to be sold & equally divided among my 9 children or there heirs, with deduction of any account Imay have against them. Should a misunderstanding arise the executors should choose a third party to make the decision & it shall be binding if they fail to comply they forfeit. I appoint my son John B Carr my executor.
