ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – King-Fisher Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, King-Fisher cemetery: 1937 Sept. 15 Research made by L. Blanche Bess Cemetery Location: 19 miles southwest of Covington, Routes #60, #18, and #610. It is located off Route #610 about 200 yards back of Mr. King’s House. Alleghany County Owners: This is a private cemetery held in trust by each successive owner. We have been unable to learn of any trustees. The “trust” has not been kept sacred by the present owner; the plot has been allowed to grow up in brush until it is almost impossible to locate the burial ground. Description: There are a number of graves discernable, many of them unmarked, while some of them are marked by a head and foot stone of native mountain stone. Some bear the name and date but many inscriptions have been erased by the hand of time. Historical Significance: Some of the very early settlers are buried here, but we were unable to read the dates out on the mountain stones. The following two inscriptions are the only legible ones in this cemetery. These two are: George Persinger Died June 8th 1889 Amy Bell Crowder Sep. 10, 1886 We were told by an elderly lady who accompanied us on our recent visit, that some of the very early settlers were buried at this place. Some of the old Fridley family, the Kings, Heplers, Tuckers, and Persingers, were laid to rest here. At that time the plot was nicely kept. The location is good, being upon a hill high enough to be dry and to be seen from the highway if the under growth was cut away. The burial ground which is very well known, is no longer used. Some very fine people are buried here and their memory should be honored by cleaning this place. At some time not far distant some one has hauled logs through the cemetery, moving from their places several head stones. This is a private burial ground, the site designated in the deed, and each successive owner receives it as a “trust”.
