(This tract of land lies between Jackson River and Lick Mountain.) In 1848, Absolom Dressler conveys by deed to the Trustees of the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, Thomas Richardson; William R., Charles and Peter Dressler; James Oliver, and their successors a certain parcel of land of 125 poles on Jackson River near the school house on Big Run, being part of land said Dressler acquired by deed from George Hull, with all appertenances. (Deed Book 4, p. 712) DESCRIPTION: The Mount Pleasant Cemetery, is a public burial ground for the Mount Pleasant section. It covers about two-thirds of an acre; is enclosed by a board fence; and is practically filled up with graves, and more than half of them are without tombstones. The cemetery is kept up by the Dressler family, but it has grown up in vines, briars and brush However it was cut over in the spring. Mr. J.W. Dressler states that the first person buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, was Charlotte Oliver. The Olivers were among the first settlers in Bath County. John Oliver Sr., together with Anthony Mustoe, patented thousands of acres of land near Warm Springs. John Oliver reared a large family of about 14 children. The widow of one son now resides at Mallow, Virginia. One of the descendents moved to Washington State. The Richardson’s also were among the first comers to this Jackson River settlement; the old home is on the north side of the river and is now owned by W.G. and H. Chapman. The Robinsons buried in the cemetery here, lived on the south side of the river near Covington, which is now Clear Water Park. George Robinson, Gent. of the family named above was a member of the Commission, June 13, 1746, which established the Court of August County. (See Chalkley’s Abstracts of Augusta County.) Major William Robinson who is buried here, was a Lieut. in the Revolutionary War (Virginia Militia in Revolutionary War. by J.T. McAllister, p. 213.) The cemetery was situated in the Dressler neighborhood. Absolom Dressler, buried here, deeded the land to the trustees of Mt. Pleasant Church and lived nearby on the opposite side of the highway. The Huntersville Turnpike from out of Covington, passed by the cemetery on the east. Mr. J.W. Dressler states the skeletons of Indians have been plowed up in the fields of Absolom Dressler. Charlotte Oliver, wife of James Oliver, was the daughter of Charles Dressler, an early settler. The following tombs and inscriptions may be seen in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery: John H.
