From Covington, go 13 miles west on Route #60. The cemetery is on high bank on top of a hill on the north side of the road. Alleghany County OWNERS: 1845-John Crow grants and conveys to the Trustees of the Presbyterian Church on Dunlaps Creek: Solomon Soowton, Andrew Fudge, Robert Kean, John Cooper, John Holloway and their successors. DESCRIPTION: A public burial ground, it is enclosed with a wire fence and is in fair condition. There are many old graves without tombstones, and sunken. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This is the oldest cemetery (Public) on the waters of Dunlap’s Creek. The Crow’s who deeded the land to the Church, are buried near the town in a private burial ground. Some of the early settlers and pioneers of Alleghany County, are buried here. The James River-Sweet Springs Turnpike passed by the church. According to the deed, this is the only Presbyterian Church on Dunlaps Creek, the nearest church of this denomination being in Covington, Virginia. The Historic Crow Tavern is located about 1.5 miles up the highway at the junction of the Sweet Springs and White-Sulphur Turnpike. The father of George Hardy Jr. lived east of the cemetery and according to John Damron, is buried here. The cemetery is an old burial ground covering about one-half acre of land, and many old graves which are now sunken, are without markers and inscriptions.
