ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Redman Graves ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Redman lone graves: 1937 June 29 Research made by Robert Stover Cemetery Location: Go 14 miles southwest of Covington, Route #60, Route #18, Route #619, Route #616, Route #618, turn south at Daniel Byers, go private road up towards Richpatch Mountain one mile. Alleghany County OWNERS: 1800-1878 Samuel & Harriet Byer to Samuel L. Redman 1878-1924 Samuel L. Redman to George L. Redman DESCRIPTION: Two lone graves of husband and wife, buried on their own land, some 500 yards or more to northwest of George Redman’s house on a ridge or knoll near a cherry tree. The ridge or hill is a foot hill of Richpatch Mountain. The graves are thrown out to pasture, no fence around them. A full view of Nichols Knob may be had, which is about 2 miles from the graves. The Simmons log schoolhouse stood down on the waters of Lick Run some one and one-half miles to northwest, about one mile to east is the Jamison-Simmons cemetery. The father and mother of Samuel G. Redman, William Redman and Polly Redman are buried in the Jamison-Simmons Cemetery. Samuel Byer and wife Harriet are also buried in the same cemetery. Mary Elizabeth Redman was a daughter of Samuel and Harriet Byer. No inscriptions or tombstones, only crude stone grave marker. Samuel L. Redman d. Mar. 12, 1926 age 80 yrs., born in Oct. Mary Elizabeth Redman d. Mar. 12, age 77 b.
