ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Wilcher Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Welcher graveyard: 1937 July 6 Research made by Robert Stover Cemetery Location: Go 3 miles southwest of Low Moor, Virginia, Route #616, on south side of road. Alleghany County OWNERS: 1781-1853 George Stull Sr. & George Stull Jr. 1853-1882 William D. Wilcher and wife Martha 1882-1891 Wilcher to C.E. Stull DESCRIPTION: The burial ground, mostly private is situated on north side of Johnson’s Mountain (on sloping ground) some 200 yards to south of Route #615 and dwelling house of C.E. Stull; there are 25 or more graves, although only about 6 are now visible. There is no tombstone or inscription to mark the graves of the oldest ones buried; there being tombstones to the more recent graves. The graveyard is grown up in brush or briers, no fence around it and not being kept up. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: William Thomas Hasting came to Alleghany County from Fincastle, Virginia.
