        <Joseph Johnson>  Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: 
        To all to whom these Presents shall come---Greeting: Know Ye, 
That in conformity with a survey made on the <twenty second> day of <May ~ > 
one thousand eight hundred and <fifty>-<two.>  by virtue of Land Office 
Treasury Warrant<s> No.<s> <19.930, & 19.788> 
there is granted by the said Commonwealth, unto <Nelson Thacker in his own 
<right one moiety and as assignee of Jefferson Sprouse the other moiety of> 

 a certain Tract or Parcel of Land, containing <Seventy acres, lying in 
<Alleghany County, on the ridges of Olivers Mountain, adjoining the land of 
<Archibald McCallister, formerly Wright B. Thomas and Watkins, and bounded as 
<follows, Viz: Beginning at three white oaks from one root, single white oak 
<and pine, on a hill side, corner to a survey of 58 acres made by Said W.B. 
<Thomas  now owned by said McCallister, and with a line of Watkins survey, now 
<said McCallister's land, N56°E 24 Poles crossing the hollow to two small 
<white oaks, & maple sapling near the branch ; 
<Thence N5°E 67 poles  crossing the ridge to a White oak near the hollow;  
<Thence N62°W  78 poles crossing the hollow, and up to the top of the ridge to 
<four pines and two red oaks, on or near a line of another survey of said 
<Thomas; 
<Thence West 38 poles along the south brow of the ridge, to four chestnut oaks 
<and pine on same ;_ 
<Thence S.15°.W. 96 poles crossing a hollow and ridge, to a Cucumber, Locust, 
<red oak, ash, hickory,  and ironwood at the branch on a line of said 
<McCallister's 58 acre survey above stated ; 
<and thence with the same S77°E 107 poles to the beginning, with its 
<appurtenances.> 

To Have And To Hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with its appurtenances, 
to the said <Nelson Thacker> and <his> heirs forever. 
     In Witness Whereof, the said <Joseph Johnson ~ > Esquire, Governor 
of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the 
Lesser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed, at Richmond, on the 
<first> day of <November> in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred 
and <fifty>-<three> and of the Commonwealth the <seventy eighth,~>
