The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ************************************************************************ DEED OF TRUST SAMUEL MEADOR TO RICHARD LIGON AND PLEASANT SEAY AMELIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA AUGUST COURT 1824 DEED BOOK NUMBER 27 This indenture made and entered into this 23rd day of March 1820 four (sic) between Samuel Meador of the first part, Richard Ligon of the second part and Pleasant Seay of the third part. Witnesseth that the said Samuel Meador in order to secure the said Seay for a certain sum of money which he the said Seay stands bound as security for the said Meador to Nathaniel Mottley for upwards of seventy dollars on which bond suit has been brought in the county of Amelia and for the further consideration of one dollar to him the said Meador in hand paid by Richard Ligon the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged has bargained and sold to him the said Ligon one certain tract of land lying and being in the county of Amelia containing twenty acres be it more or less and bounded by the lands of William Wood Senior and Catharine Wright to him the said Ligon and his heirs forever. Nevertheless if the said Meador shall keep harmless the said Seay touching the said debt and cost then and in that case this instrument to be void and of no effect but if the said debt should be levied on the said Pleasant Seays property to satisfy the same then the said Ligon is to proceed to sell the said tract of land before described to the highest bidder for the best price that can be obtained advertising the sale at several public places in the neighborhood for ten days and out of the sale satisfy and pay the said debt and costs also the costs attending this transaction and the balance to pay to the said Meador. Sally Meador hereby binds herself her heirs and to joint ratify and confirms the said sale made by her said husband Samuel Meador to the said Richard Ligon for the purpose herein set forth. This deed of trust from Samuel Meador and Sally his wife to Richard Ligon trustee for the benefit of Pleasant Seay was proven by the oaths of two witnesses thereto subscribed and continued for further proof. And in Amelia County Court August 26th 1824. The said deed of trust was fully proven by the oath of one other witness thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded. Teste: J. T. WRIGHT AMELIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA JULY COURT 1824 DEED BOOK NUMBER 27 PAGE 105 Know all men by these presents that I William Wright of Madison county and state of Alabama do by these presents constitute and appoint George H. Wright of the county of Amelia and state of Virginia my true and lawful attorney to sell for me and in my name my share of a tract of land lying in the county of Amelia on which my father Reuben Wright lived my share being one ninth part of said tract of land the said tract of land his adjoining to Edward Green and William Green and contents unknown to me, and I do by these presents authorize and empower the said William Wright to make a fee simple title to said land to do all things appertaining to said land as I myself could do were I personally present. Parker Jr. g.c.parker@prodigy.net DEED SAMUEL WRIGHT TO GEORGE WRIGHT AMELIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA DECEMBER COURT 1824 DEED BOOK NUMBER 27 PAGE 179 Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Wright of Amelia county having received the portion of lands, which I am entitled to as one of the distributes of my father Thomas Wright deceased have for and in consideration of the sum of sixty two dollars and twenty four cents to me in hand paid by George Wright sold and convey and by these presents doth transfer sell release and convey to the said George right all interest claim or demand whatever I now have or may hereafter have to any part or portion of the estate of my deceased father Thomas (except the land above mentioned) hereby vesting and transferring absolutely to said George full power and authority to receive all and every part or parts interest claim or demand whatever which I may be entitled in any way to receive from my said father's estate and that he the said George Wright shall forever hereafter have and enjoy the same free from all claims or demands whatever of me the said Samuel Wright or any person or persons claiming by or under me the said Samuel. Parker Jr. g.c.parker@prodigy.net DEED SAMUEL MEADOR TO WILLIAM WOOD AMELIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA SEPTEMBER COURT 1825 DEED BOOK NUMBER 27 This indenture made this 9th day of May one thousand eight hundred and twenty five between Samuel Meador and Sally his wife of the one part and William Wood Senior of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Samuel Meador and Sally his wife in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty dollars lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said William Wood Senior at or before the insealing and delivery of these presents (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged). Have bargained and sold and by these presents do and each of them doth bargain and sell unto the said William Wood Senior his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the county of Amelia and bounded on the east south and west by the lands of the said William Wood Senior and on the north by the land of Catharine Wright and containing twenty acres it being part of the tract formally Thomas Wrights with all its appurtenances, revisions and reversions remainder and remainders yearly and other rents issues and profits thereof and every part and parcel thereof. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land herein before mentioned or intended to be bargained and sold and every part and parcel thereof with all its appurtenances unto the said William Wood Senior his heirs and assigns forever and the said Samuel Meador and Sally his wife for themselves and their heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances before mentioned unto the said William Wood Senior his heirs and assigns free from the claim or claims of them the said Samuel Meador and Sally his wife or either of them, their or either of their heirs and of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall will and do warrant and forever defend by these presents in writing whereof the said Samuel Meador and Sally his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. We Rodophil Jeter and Edward Greene justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Samuel Meador a party to a certain deed bearing the date on the ninth day of May eighteen hundred and twenty five and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the clerk of the county court of Amelia in order that the said deed may be recorded. We Rodophil Jeter and Edward Greene justices of the peace for county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Sally Meador the wife of Samuel Meador parties to a certain deed bearing date the ninth day of May eighteen hundred and twenty five and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being examined by us privately and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Sally Meador acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and the she wishes not to retract it.
