Samuel Cobbs Clk [Submitter note: James Hamlett and wife Obedience (surname unknown)lived this early in Amelia Co., Va. The origins of James Hamlett are obscure. There were Hamletts in Henrico and Chesterfield Cos. just east of Amelia; and further back, in James City and Charles City. James Hamlett lived on this land on Sandy River, which fell into Prince Edward Co. in 1754, for many years; he bought land in Lunenburg Co. in 1760, and in Charlotte Co. in 1771. I believe he lived in Charlotte Co., but left a will in Lunenburg Co. in 1803. There were Hamletts in Pr. Edward, Campbell, Pittsylvania and Halifax counties, all of whom are probably related, but no one I know has yet succeeded in tying them together. I'm descended from James Hamlett's daughter Hannah, who married John Collier in Pr. Edward Co. in 1765. They lived in Charlotte Co. until 1795, and moved to Bourbon and Nicholas Cos. in Kentucky].
