Will & Estate of John Booth, 1793-1796 - Amelia Co. VA In the name of god, amen, I, John Booth of Amelia County, being weak in body but of a sound disposing mind and memory, do make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following: First: I leave to my beloved wife, Elizabeth Booth, the lands and plantations whereon I now live, together with five negroes to wit: Harry, Charles, Aggie, Pat and Alba, two horse, Wanton and Silvertail, my house hold and kitchen furntiture, except such as I shall hereafter mention, with my stocks of cattle, hoggs, and sheep during her life, and after her death, to be Equally divided Between my four children thereafter mentioned as they shall come of age or marry viz: John Booth, Thomas Booth, Mary Booth and Elizabeth Booth to them and their heirs forever. It is my desire that my land should be sold and the money arising therefore to be equally divided as above. Item: I give to my son, John Booth, one negro boy named Cyrus, one roam horse and one feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son, Thomas Booth, one negro Boy named Dick and feather Bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter Mary Booth, one Negro girl named Suckey, one Bed and furntiure to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter, Elizabeth Booth, one negro girl named Lucy, one Bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever. It is my will and desire that if either of the Negroes separately mentioned should die before they possess them, the value of such Negroes be be made up out of the rest of my negroes, not yet mentioned. All the residue of my estate, not before mentioned, to Equally divided among my four children above mentioned to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I do appoint my Friends, Frances Anderson and Jacob Roberts and my son, John Booth, executors to this my last will and Testament and that there be no Appraisement of my estate. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fifteenth day of July 1793. The last will and Testament of John Booth, deceased, was exhibited into court and proved by the oaths of James Vaughan, William Burton and Francis Vaughan, the witnesses Thereto subscribed, sworn to by Jacob Roberts, one of the executors, therein named, and ordered to be Recorded and on the motion of the said executor, who together with Richard Ogelby and Mathew Robertson, his securities, entered into and Acknowledged Bond in the penalty of 200 lbs as the law directs. Beneficiary is granted the said Jacob to obtain probate thereof in due form, Reserving liberty in the other executors to join in probate when they shall think fit.
