Item lst My will and desire is that all my just debts be paid. Item 2nd I give devise and bequeath to my son John W. Coleman the house and appendences in which he now lives with three hundred acres of land to be surveyed thereto insuch manner and form as he may wish or desire to him and his heirs forever. Item 3rd I give devise and bequeath to my son William B. Coleman three hundred acres of land which I own in Dinwiddie County adjoining the land of Mrs.Lemasure, Dr. Edward W. Allen and others and all the appendences thereto to him and heirs forever. Item 4th I give devise and bequeath to my son Richard A Coleman all of my land lying in Nottoway County containing by survey two hundred and ninety-eight acres adjoining the land of Samuel Clay and others and all the appendences therein to him and his heis forever. Item 5th I leave unto my beloved wife Nancy Coleman all the balance of my real estate during her natural life and at her death, my will and desire is that the whole of it so loaned be sold, and the proceeds thereof be equally divided between six of my children namely John W. Coleman, William B. Coleman, Richard A. Coleman, Catherine A. Coleman, Martha A D Coleman, and Sarah W. Coleman, leaving with any executors the full discretionary right of leasing of it in such manner and form as they may descern most conducive to the interest of my estate. Item 6th I hereby appoint and constitute my three sons John W. Coleman, Wiliam B. Coleman, Richard A. Coleman as trustees to act for my daughter Harriet Clay and take possession at my death of the following property (to wit) one negro man named Daniel and one negro woman named Mary, and all her increase which I loan to her during her natural life and at her death the aboved named peoperty to go to her two children William H Clay and Sarah A E Clay when as they may or become of age but if the above named William H and Sarah A E Clay should die without a lawful heir then it is my will and desire that the above named property with its increase shall return and be equally divided among the surviving legatees to my estate. It is also my wish that the above named trustees shall faithfully manage the said trust for the benefit of my said daughter and the support and Education of her two children. Item 7th I give devise and bequeath to my son in law Robert L. Carter the sum of five dollars as his proportion of my Estate to be paid at my death by my executors. Item 8th I hereby appoint and constitute my sons John W. Coleman, William B. Coleman and Richard A. Coleman as trustees to act for my Grandaughter Lucy A E Carter the daughter of Robert L. Carter and Roberta A Carter formerly Coleman and that the above named trustees shall choose from my negroes likely young negro woman at my death and faithfully manage the same until the above named Lucy A. E. Carter shall become of lawful age or monies at which time she shall receive the above named paroperty with her increase and profits arising from the same, it is also my will that if the above named Lucy A. E. Carter should die before she arrives at lawful age or without a lawful heir, that the above property with its increase and profits be equally divided among the remaining legatees to my Estate. Item 9th I loan to my beloved wife Nancy Coleman all of the balance and residue of my Estate together with the whole of my household and kitchen furniture as also my Branch and Jenny to be kept together and managed for her comfortable support. The supposed maintenance of the education of my youngest children and at her death to be equally divided between six of my children named John W Coleman William B. Coleman Richard A Coleman, Catherine A Coleman, Martha A. D. Coleman and Sarah M Coleman. It is also my will and desire that one third part part of the wood land of each tract which I have given to each of my sons the parts lying most convenient to my home tract my wife shall have the benefit of during her natural life and after her death the same and third part of each tract to remove back to each of my sons. It is also my will and desire that my wife if she may see cause may let any one or all of my children have such property as she may think proper for the said child.Item 10th My will and desire is that should either of my children should die before they arrive to lawful age or without a lawful heir that his or her part shall be equally divided among the remaining legatees. I hereby appoinnt and constitute my beloved wife Nancy Coleman my sons John W. Coleman and my Brother in law Cabell D Pollard executors to this my only will and testament. In testimony himself thereunto set my hand and offered my seal this the twenty fourth day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty four. Witnesses Armistead Coleman Laban Pitchford Thomas Pitchford In Amelia County Court 23 March 1848 This the last will and testament of William Coleman which was this day proven in Court by the oaths of three subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded on motion of Nancy Coleman the Executor therein named who made oath as the law directs and together with Cabell Pollard William Pollard James H. Clay Richard A Coleman John Coleman have presently entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $30,000 conditional recording to law certificate of probate of said will as granted him his due forms.
