All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ==================================================================== 1772 WILL David Greenhill WP 9/27/1772 Amelia Co WB 2 p 59-62 In the name of God Amen the Twenty first day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred & seventy two, I, David Greenhill, being sick and weak but of perfect mind & memory do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament. Imprimus I lend to my loving wife Catherine during her natural life ye dwelling house I now live in - with the Plantation this side the Creek & all the other out houses thereon, likewise the Land that I bought of the Hinton's where Thomas Wilkinson is now Overseer, with five feather beds & furniture for the use of my family, with all the Stocks of Cattle, Hogs, Sheep, on both the Plantations, & four Work Horses & one Riding Horse. Item I lend to my loving wife during her natural life Peter a negro Man, the Cook wench Judie, Jacob, Charlie, Lett, Beck, Chloe, Rose, Phill & his wife Liller/Tiller, and at the Death of my said Wife they and their Increase to be equally Divided betwixt my Children hereafter named or the survivors of them: Joseph Greenhill, William Greenhill, Samuel Greenhill, Philip Whitehead Greenhill, Sarah Greenhill, Lucy Greenhill & Martha Greenhill to them and their heirs forever- Item my desire is that my Mother may have the same privilege in my Dwelling house as when I was alive, & the room that is call'd her Room as long as she lives, to her own use, & two feather beds & furniture as long as she lives, & if she allows her negro's to work on my Plantation as usual that she be maintained out of my Estate at the discretion of my Executors. Item I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Greenhill on Christmas in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and seventy three all my Tract of Land on Meherrin in Brunswick containing Seven hundred and eighty three Acres more or less to him and his heirs and assigns forever, with twenty head of Neat Cattle, the Mare & Colt that is call'd his, and the four workhorses belonging to the B? Plantation, & at the receiving the said Plantation that he be allowed as much Corn off the plantation as will serve him ? ? ? ? one year. Item I give and bequeath my son William Greenhill when he shall arrive to the Age of Twenty one years & at the death of my Mother, all my Land lying on the South side of the lower Cellar Creek where Solomon Wiles now lives, & Dublins to him and his heirs & assigns forever, and likewise Twenty head of Neat Cattle -- & two good Work Horses & the Colt that is call'd his. Item I give and bequeath to my son Samuel Greenhill at the Death of my loving Wife all that Tract of Land whereon Thomas Wilkerson is Overseer, known by the name of Hinton's Tract, to him his heirs & assigns forever, and at the Death of his Mother Twenty head of Neat Cattle & two Work Horses. Item I give and bequeath to my son Philip Whitehead Greenhill at the Death of his Mother the Tract of Land I now live on containing Two hundred and ninety seven Acres more or less with the Mill adjoining to him and his heirs & assigns forever, and at the Death of his said Mother, twenty head of neat Cattle and two Work Horses. Item I give and bequeath to my son (sic) Paschal Greenhill, Joseph Greenhill, William Greenhill, Samuel Greenhill, & Philip Whitehead Greenhill all that Estate that descended to me at the Death of my Unkle Joseph Greenhill, both in Great Britain and Rode Island, to be equally divided between them to them and their heirs and assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath to my Son in Law Nelson Jones (daughter Lettice's husband) over and above the nine I have already given him a Negro Boy about seven years old at the discretion of my Executors, to him & his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath to my Son in Law Thomas Williams (daughter Cath- erine's husband) over and above the Eight I have already given him, two Negro fellows at the discretion of my Executors or any two of them, to him and his heirs & assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath to my son Paschal Greenhill in Trust for the use of my Son in law, John Leigh & my Daughter Elizabeth Leigh & their Children all that Estate that ??? Leigh and I bought of the said John Leigh, and at the Death of the said John Leigh and Elizabeth his wife, to be equally divided between their Children forever, but in case the said John Leigh should be consenting, I do hereby empower the said Paschal Greenhill, my son, to sell all or any part of the said Lands in Trust to pay of (sic) the old debts due from the said Estate. Item After my Debts are paid I give and bequeath all the residue of my Estate & that of my Father's Estate now in the hands of my Mother, that is not already given, to be equally divided between my seven Children following, viz Joseph Greenhill, William Greenhill, Samuel Greenhill, Philip Whitehead Greenhill, Sarah Greenhill, Lucy Greenhill and Martha Greenhill in manner following, that is that the said Estate be kept together until the first of my said seven Children arrives to the age of Twenty one years or Marries, & then the said Estate to be divided in seven Lots, equally at the discretion of my Executors, & the Children of Age or Married to take one seventh part by drawing it by Lot, and the other lots to be put together in order to support the rest of the Children, & when the next of the said Children is Twenty one years old or Married, to divide again by the afores'd method, always making as many Lots as there are Children that have not received their part, & so to continue till the last of the said Children is of age or Married, & the said Lots to the said Children I give and bequeath to them and their heirs forever. Item my will and desire is that my said seven children be maintained out of my Estate as usual when I was alive till they receive their part of my Estate allotted them by this Will. Item I hereby constitute and appoint my sons Paschall Greenhill & Joseph Greenhill and my Son in Law Thomas Williams Executors of this my last Will & Testament whom I do authorize by the consent of my loving Wife to sell all or any part of my Land hereby given, and the Money arising therefrom to be laid out in Land for the advantage of the Particular Legatee whose land was sold, and I hereby revoke and disannul all other Wills heretofore made by me this day and year written. And on Motion of the said Executors, who entered into Bond as the law directs, Certificate for obtaining a probate in due form was granted them. Test John Pride D.C.
