I Ralph Jopling of the County of Amherst being sound in memory and remembrance but weak in body do make and ordain my last will and testament in manner and form following. Viz: First I bequeath my soul into the hand of God who gave it me hoping that through the Meritorious death and sufferings of my great redeemer to receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and my body to the grave to be buried at the direction of my executors hereafter nominated as for my worldly goods which the almighty has been pleased to endow me with, I give and bequeath in manner and form following. Viz. first I give my land in Burke County in North Carolina to my two sons Ralph and James Jopling, to be equally divided betwixt them, also I give them three negroes Nell, Sin and Wile, in the same manner as my land before mentioned. I give to my daughter Sarah Jopling one girl named Brittanna, I give to my daughter Jane Jopling one girl named Moll, I give to my daughter Ann Jopling one girl named Beck. I give to my son Thomas Jopling one boy namedc Joe, I give to my son William Jopling one boy named Squire, I give to my son Daniel Jopling one boy named Ned, I give to my son John Jopling one boy named Fran. I give to my son Ben Jop0ling one boy named George. I give to my daughter Catharine Thurmond one young wench named Rachel which last four mentioned they are already possessed with. I give to my daughter Mary Thomas (deceased) her three children Michael, Ralph, and Betsy, sixty pounds to be paid to them on their marriage or coming to age that is to say twenty pounds to each to be paid to them by my executors, hereafter nominated, the remainder of my estate after my debts are paid, and the legacys within mentioned, I leave to be equally divided amongst all of my children above mentioned, and my daughter Mary (deceased) her three children, Ralph, Michael and Betsy Thomas, to come in as one legatee and my will is that if either of my children should die without issue their parts to be equally divided amonst these survivours, I give to my daughter Jane Jopling six pounds cash to make her legacy equal to the other's and my will is that my estate be kept together till the debts are paid, and my will is that my wife Catharine Jopling keep possession of the land and premises during her natural life, after her death to be sold with my Mountain Tract and the money to be equally divided as above mentioned and I leave Thomas Farrar, Richard Farrar, and my son James Jopling, and my wife Catharine Jopling my executors, to execute this my last will and testament as witness my hand and seal this the date above mentioned. At a court held for Amherst County the fifth day of Sept. 1791. This last will and Testament of Ralph Jopling deceased was this day presented in court by Richard Farrar, the executor therein named, and proved by the oath of Sherod Griffin, John Snider, and James Trail.
