I recommend my body to the dust and my soul to almighty God from whence it ever received. Item. It is my last request and desire that my dear beloved wife Nancy Pollard and my three sons, viz., Caleb D. Pollard, George W. Pollard, and Robert C. Pollard be appointed my executors with full power to transact my estate and furthermore that the court shall not bail them nor demand of them security for their performance thereof. Item. I lend unto my dear beloved wife Nancy Pollard for the respect I have for her all of my estate both real and personal to have and to during her natural life and after her death to be equally award among all of my children viz, Joseph, Caleb D., Betsey D. late, Betsey D. Allen, Polly Roles, William, Nancy and George W. Pollard. For their only proper use and benefit after ... Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Pollard one featherbed and furniture or the value thereof in money. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Caleb D. Pollard one feather bed and furniture. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Robert C. Pollard one feather bed and furniture also the sum of twenty dollars to be paid unto him out of my estate. Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Polly Pollard for the due respect I have for her one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one ewe and lamb, --- it is my wish and request that she shall have a negro girl I have named Mary Ann Elizabeth for her only use and benefit ... After the payment of my debts I lend to my wife Martha all the residue of my estate both real and personal during her life in lieu of dowry and reasonable after her death I desire that ll that part of my estate which was originally my shall be equally divided between my two half sisters, Nancy Burton and Judith Burton or the survivor of them and in case both my half sisters should die before my wife I desire that the estate thus bequeathed to them may go to my near relatives agreeably to the present existing law of descents. Lastly I appoint Claiborne G. Whitworth my father in law executor of this my last will and testament. Given under my hand this 22nd day of 1801. Witnessed by James Henderson, John ----, Jordan Martin. At a county court the 22nd day of April 1802, this last will and testament was proved by the oaths of the witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Claiborne G. Whitworth the executor named who took the oath and entered into and acknowledged bond with George Pollard Security in the penalty of 2000 dollars with a condition according to law certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate ----. In the name of God Amen I James Southall being sick of body but of a disposing mind & memory doth constitute and make this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following that is to say I desire my body to be committed to the earth & my soul to god who gave it & as to my worldly goods that it hath pleased God to bestow on me I desire to give in manner following. Item I desire all my Just debts to be paid. Item I lend unto my beloved wife the plantation whereon I now live dureing [sic] her natural life & the feather Bed & furniture whereon I now lie & also I lend unto my wife the rest of my Estate until there is sixty five pounds raised from said Estate for my son James Southall & also sixty five pounds for my son Jefse Southall which sums of money the rest of my sons have already received. Item my will and desire is that after the above mentioned legacies are raised that a division take place equally among my children & that part of my Estate that shall fall to my daughter Ann Drake to be deposited in the hands of my Exors that shall be hereafter named to be given her as they shall ___ _____ stand u______ and if their [sic] should be any of her part remaining at her death my desire is that it be equally divided among her children. Item my will & desire is that my three grandchildren that is to say Elizabeth Crowder Rebecca Crowder & Mary Crowder have one equal childs part in the division of my Estate. Item my will & desire is that after my wifes death that my Land be sold _____ ___________ __________ credit and the money ariseing [sic] from the sale thereof to be equally divided among my children that I had by my last wife & the rest of the Estate at her death to be equally divided among all of my children and last of all I constitute and appoint my two sons Daniel Southall & Henry H Southall to execute this my last Will and Testament. In the name of God I Moses Morris of Amelia County being in good health and sound mind and memory as at other times and knowing the frailty of this mortal life and that it is appointed for all mankind once to die, Therefore I make this my lat will and testament giving and bequeathing in the manner and form as followeth: Item. I give to my son Zachariah Morris one bed and furniture which he has in possession and one twelfth part of my estate to him and his heirs forever. Item. I to my son Moses Morris one bed and furniture which he has in possession and one twelth part of my estate during his life and at his death I give it to his children to them and their heirs forever. Item. I leave to my son Isaac Morriss one feather bed and furniture and one twelfth part of my estate to him and the heirs of his body but if he should die without heirs full heir of his body his legacy to return to the surviving legatees. Item I give to my son Walter Morris six shillings to be paid to him by my executors. Item. I leave to my son William Morriss one feather bed furniture and one twelfth part of my estate to him and the heirs of his body, but if he should die without lawful heir of his body his legacy to return to the surviving legatees., Item. I give to my three grand children Rhoda Franklin Molly Claybrook and Sally Claybrook one twelfth part of my estate to be equally divided between them but if either of the children should die without an heir their parts to return to their surviving sisters. Item. I give to my three grand children William Wingo, Sally Wingoe and Molly Wingoeone twelfth part of my estate to be equally divided between them, but if either of three children should die without heirs their parts to return to the surviving brother or sister. Item. I give to my six Grandchildren Asenath Morris, Dubucy Morris, Nancy Morris, Jenny Morris, Luellen Morriss and Catril Morris one bed and furniture which their mother Betsy Morrisshas in possession and one twelfth part of my estate for their support to be equally divided between them, but if either of the six children should die without an heir their parts to return to the surviving sisters and brothers. Item. I leave to my grand daughter Susannah Burton one trunk, one feather bed and furniture which her father Samuel Burton has in possession and one twelfth part of my estate, all which I leave in the care and hands of my executors till she shall become of age or married, but if she should die without lawfull heir of legacy to return to the surviving legatees Item. I give to my daughter Mary H. Whitworth one feather bed and furniture which she has in possession and one twelfth part of my estate to her and her heirs of her body forever. Item. I give to my daughter Judith Mays one bed and furniture which she has in possession and one twelfth part of my estate to her and the heirs of her body forever. Item, I give to my daughter Jenny Hendrick one bed and furniture which she has in possession and one twelfth part of my estate to her and her heirs of her body forever. Item. I give to my daughter Oney Burton one bed and furniture which she has in possession and one twelfth part of my estate to her and the heirs of her body forever. And lastly I constitute and appoint my Brother Zachariah Morriss and Claibourne G. Whitworth executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have set my hand and fix to my seal this twelfth day of June, One thousand eight hundred and two. Witnesses: Allen Jeters, Thomas Booth, Rudophil Jeter, Isaac Morris. At a court held for Amelia County January 27 1803. This the last will and testament of Moses Morris deceased was unto court and by the oaths of three of three of the witnesses therto sworn to by --- Settlement of Moses Morriss Estate filed 8 August 1804 Estate William Morris Jr. with William Burton Admin. August 8th 1804. ... by cash in the hands of Zachariah Morriss exe'r of Moses Morris dec'd... In pursuance of a decree of the worshipfull court of Amelia we the undersigned have proceeded to examine state and settle the accts of William Burton adms of William Morriss dec'd and find a ballance in his hands ninety four pounds 18/4/ as stated above and have proceeded to divide the same in the following manner to wit, To Susannah Morris exer of Zachariah Morriss dec'd, Moses Morris, Isaac Morris, Mary H. Whitworth, Gar Mayes in right of his wife, Bernard Hendrick in right of his wife, William Burton in right of his wife allott to each of them the sum of nine shillings and to it bring the one tenth part of the whole estate amounting to the sum of ----. Also to Jesse Franklin in right of his wife, Molly Claybrook and Sally Claybrook we allott the sum of to be equally divided between them. Also to William Wingo, Sally Wingo, and Molly Wingo we allot the sum of to be equally divided between them. Also to Leena Dabucy Nancy Jamey (?) sewilling (?) and cuttred (?)
