Will of Lawrence Campbell, 1813 Amherst County Will Book __, Page___ (transcribed from copy provided by Clerk of Court without indication of Will Book or Page No.) In the name of God, Amen. I, Lawrence Campbell of the County of Amherst and State of Virginia being weak of body but of sound mind and memory and knowing that it is appropriate for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills and bequests - and as touching such worldly Estate as it hath please God to bless me I dispose of after the following manner, Item it is my will and desire that all my just Debts be first paid, and to enable my Executors herein named to affect that object they are hereby authorized to sell and convey such part of my Estate real or personal as shall be most agreeable to my beloved wife Henriaritta Campbell all the residue of my Estate of whatever description after the payment of debts as above mentioned, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Hennaritta Campbell during her natural life, - Item after the death of my beloved wife my will my desire is that all my Estate of every description be sold by my Executors hereafter named and that out the money arising from the sale of my Estate they first pay to my daughter, Nancy Malony or her heirs the sum of forty pounds to make her equal to my other Children. I give to the Widow and Representatives of my son James Campbell decd.: one dollar and no more having already done for them all that I intend. Item the balance of the money arising from the sale of my Estate or in any way due to my I divide in the following manner to my son Francis Campbell one eighth part to him and his heirs forever, to my son Lawrence Campbell one eighth part to him and his heirs forever, to my son Catlett Campbell one eighth part to him and his heirs forever - to my Daughter Mary Ann Burk one eighth part to her and the heirs of her body she first paying to my Estate the sum of Forty pounds which I paid to Joseph Burk; to my Daughter Judith Maginnis (?) one eighth part to her and the heirs of her body. - to my Daughter Nancy Maloney one eighth part to and the heirs of her body - to my Daughter Salley Turner one eighth part to her and the Heirs of her body, she first paying to my Estate one hundred pounds which I am bound to pay for her husband James L. Turner which includes a Debt due to David and Jas. Garland to my son Francis Campbell and my friend Jeremiah Franklin in trust for the use and support of my daughter Pamela Waugh one eight part to be used and applied subject to the (their?) orders and directions - Item I give and bequeath to my Granddaughter Eliza Waugh a negro girl slave named Celia and in case she should died without issue then to her brothers to equally divided between them - Item it is my will and desire that my Executor bring against my Children nor Grand Children no other claims or demands that what is herein mentioned for any transactions previous to this time, and lastly I appoint my son Francis Campbell, and my friend Jeremiah Franklin Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I whereof I have set my hand and fixed my seal this 8th day of January 1813. Signed Sealed and ack'd before us Lawrence Campbell (seal) David S. Garland Jeremiah Franklin Henry Franklin At a court held for Amherst County 17th October 1814 this last Will and Testament of Lawrence Campbell decd. was proved by Jeremiah Franklin a subscribing witness thereto and ordered to lie for further proof. And at a Court held for the aforesaid County the 18th December 1815 This will was further proved by David S. Garland and Henry Franklin two witnesses thereof and ordered to be recorded. Francis Campbell one of the E'ors named in said Will personally appeared in Court and qualified thereto and entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $5000 conditioned as the law directs with David S. Garland his security, Certified as granted him for obtaining probate thereof in due form. Submitted by James H.
