VA Amherst County Will Book 16, 1860-1864, p. 365 The Last Will and Testament of Rowlet Gill of the County of Amherst & State of Virginia. I Rowlett Gill Considering the uncertainty of the Mortal life and being if Sound mind and memory do made and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. That I give and bequeath unto my brother Curtis Gill my mare named Bet And I also give and bequeath to my brother Curtis Gill one bed & Clothing and also give & bequeath to my brother Curtis Gill and my Sister Hannah Gill the residue of my estate after paying all of my Just debts and liabilities to be equally divided between them. I do hereby appoint Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament Curtis Gill hereby revoking all former Will by me made. In witness where I have hereunto set my hand and Seal the the [sic] 26th day of January 1863. Rowlet (X) Gill Seal The above instrument Consisting of one Sheet was now here Subscribed by Rowlet Gill the testator in the presence of each of us And was at the Same time declared by him to be his last Will and Testament and we at his request sign our names thereto as attesting Witnesses M. B. Woodson residing in the County of Amherst Samuel D. Christian residing in the County of Amherst At a Court held for Amherst County on the 15th day of June 1863 A paper purporting to be the last Will & testament of Rowlet Gill decd was produced in Court & proved by the oath of M. B. Woodson A Subscribing Witness thereto and Continued for further proof And at a Court held for Amherst County on Monday the 21st day of September 1863 A paper purporting to be the last Will & testament of Rowlet Gill was further proved by the Oath of Saml D. Christian Another Subscribing Witness thereto & was ordered to be recorded And on the motion of Curtis Gill the executor therein named who made oath thereto according to law & together with Abraham Martin his Security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $1,000 - Conditioned According to law which is ordered to be recorded.
