VA Amherst County Will Book 19 Page 370 In the name of God, Amen! I Lewis Mays of the County of Amherst and state of Virginia, being of sound mind and disposing memorys and being mindful of the uncertainty of life and the necessity of making some disposition of my estate in anticipation of my death, do hereby ordain and make this, my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all Wills or codicils heretofore made by me -- Item -- First I desire that all my just debts and necessary funeral expenses shall be paid -- Item -- Second I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph R. Mays my two-horse wagon and the necessary harness for the same and my two (2) horses; and my Milch cow -- The same to be by him received and applied to his own exclusive use and benefit -- Item: Third I give and bequeath unto my two sons Joseph R and Washington Mays in fee simple to be equally divided among them in such manner and at such time as they may see proper the tract of twenty-six (26) acres of land purchased by me of Benjamin Watts by deed of record in the County of Amherst; all my Household and Kitchen furniture, and all my plantation tools, except such as are hereunto before disposed of including also all the residue of my Estate which may be in my possession and control at the time of my death. Item: Fourth I hereby nominate and appoint my son JR Mays the Executor of this my last Will and Testament requesting no security be required of him as such -- Given under my hand and seal this 11th day of June 1873.
