APPOMATTOX COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Kelso Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, The old Kelso burying ground cemetery: 1937 Feb. 10 Research made by E. Lewis Paulette Cemetery Location: 1 mile north of Pamplin, Virginia, on Route #600. Burying ground on right hand side of road, about 300 yards from road. Appomattox County OWNERS: Descendants of Kelso family. DESCRIPTION: This is a very small graveyard. A five foot rock wall all around same except for a three foot opening for a gate. A few large oaks remain and lilacs. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Mr. and Mrs. Kelso’s graves are under ground vaults. The sides being of granite extending about 18 inches above the ground, level with a wide slab on top. These graves being in bad condition, the sides are now partly down. It is said by old residents that Mr. Kelso was buried with coffin standing up, that he might be in a standing position, this was his request.
