NORFOLK - John William Abbott, 76, of 2426 West Ave., retired from Norfolk & Western
Railway after 48 years, died Friday in his home after a short illness.

A native of Spout Springs, Va., he was a son of Joseph and Mrs. Mackey Abbott and
the husband of the late Mrs. Gertrude Abbott.

He was a member of New Calvary Baptist church.

Surviving are three sons, Edward M. Abbott and Francell M. Abbott of Norfolk and
Harold T. Abbott of Washington; three daughters, Miss Gertrude A. Abbott, Mrs.
Shirley A. Holloway and Mrs. Geraldine A. Sessoms of Norfolk; three brothers,
Charles Abbot and Walker H. Abbott of Lynchburg and Junius Abbott of
Charlottesville; four sisters, Mrs. Nancy J. Arnett, Mrs. Sarahetta A. Pryor and
Mrs. Otelia A. Coles of Charlottesville and Mrs. Ida D. Walton of Mt. Hope, W.Va.;
and 10 grandchildren.

The body was taken to Jones Funeral Home.

He is buried in Mouth Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Sprout Spring, Appomattox
County
