WILLIAM HENRY FITZHUGH, born in Arlington, Va., May 31, 1837. Appointed lieutenant in United States army in 1857, and served in Utah campaign. Joined Confederate forces in 1861, and made brigadier-general October, 1862. Captured and exchanged. Promoted to major-general of cavalry April, 1864. Led his division from the Rapidan to Appomattox, and performed brilliant service. Elected to Congress in 1888 as a Democrat. Died in 1891.
