Herndon Cemetery Location: This graveyard is located in a field about a quarter of a mile from the house on the land owned by Ormond Carson, which is 9 miles from Staunton, Va., on the Springhill road. Augusta County The graves have been so overgrown with aspen and boxwood that it is impossible to get close enough to secure all inscriptions. Over the earliest graves the boxwood has spread to a length and width of about twenty feet and grows down to within a few inches of the ground. There is also a veteran of the War Between the States buried here, who was accidentally killed after the war. The Ormond Carson Graveyard is a private family plot, originally belonging to Mr. Silas Jones, who held his land in a patent dated 1775. This plot contains the remains of members of his family, and of the Hamrick and Fishburne families. Henry Berry Died Sept. 8, 1801 Lydia A.
