Herndon Cemetery Location: About 11 miles southwest of Staunton, Va., at the Junction of Routes #700 and #694 Augusta County It is the graveyard for the church and is owned by it. The plot is beautifully kept and stones which have fallen have been propped up and cared for. There are a few broken stones, several that have had the inscriptions obliterated by weather and a few river stones, but the graveyard is beautiful, full of lovely old trees, flowers and fine monuments. Many of the stones have very well done carvings and the cutting is well done. The earliest burial is dated 1839, there are several Civil War veterans here, some killed in action and here also is a stone of a young girl who had eleven given names. There appears to be nothing of historical interest except the names of old settlers, but some interest stories can be imagined from inscriptions and relations of dates.
