Herndon Cemetery Location: About 1 mile north of Mount Tabor, Va., in a clump of woods to the west of Route #620. Augusta County This is a very old plot and is so overgrown with weeds, bushes, briars, etc. as to be nearly inaccessible. It is on the top of a ridge completely surrounded by woods. This was probably the original burying ground for the old North Mountain Meeting House and many of the graves are deeply sunken, stones fallen and inscriptions obliterated. The earliest date is 1742 and here are buried soldiers of the French and Indian Wars as well as the Revolutionary soldiers. A study of the names with the information given in the parenthesis might indicate that most of the people were related to each other by blood or marriage.
