Herndon Cemetery Location: West of the Springdale Church, on Rt #639, .5 mile from Rt. #340, and about 4 miles southwest of Waynesboro, Va. Augusta County This is a community plot, rather small and kept in excellent condition, though the base of some of the oldest stones are sinking below the sod so that the last part of the inscription on two of them are hidden. One Civil War soldier is buried here. One of the first settlers of this section lies buried here, with other members of his family. The inscription above his grave has been worn away but the name was Emanuel Kindig. He owned much of the surrounding land and some of the houses he built still stand on it.
