Herndon Cemetery Location: 4 miles north of Waynesboro, Va., on Route #12 or River Road, west side of road. Augusta County The church was organized in 1772 but the earliest date on a stone is 1796. There are several stones whose inscriptions are written in low German and some of these are becoming worn by the weather. Here the ancestors of the Koiner family are buried and the inscription is in both German and English. There do not appear to be any Revolutionary soldiers buried here. Some fallen stones have been reset but there are many wooden markers and river stones from which the inscriptions have disappeared. The plot is beautifully kept, is enclosed in a wire fence and has old shrubbery and trees.
