Thomas Jones' Declaration, September 24th, 1832: Age 77; enlisted in 1776 under Capt. James Franklin in the Tenth Regiment of the Virginia Line under Col. Edward Stevens, Lieut. Clough Shelton, Second Lieut. James Dillard, Ensign William Powell. Afterwards the Tenth was changed to the Sixth under Col. Samuel Hawes; Clough Shelton was Captain, James Dillard was First Lieutenant; was in the battles of Strawberry Hill, Brandywine and Germantown. William Davis' Declaration, July, 1838: Age 77; was from Amherst; entered under Capt. Pamplin as substitute for John Tinsley; again as substitute for _____ Tinsley under Capt. George Lemon's Declaration, August 18th, 1832: Enlisted under Lieut. Adam Wallace in the Seventh Virginia Regiment of Col. Daingerfield or Col. Buckner; at Buford's defeat was wounded and made prisoner. Jacob Lemon testifies that he saw George march out of Staunton under Capt. Adam Wallace. John Duke's Declaration, November 16th, 1824: Aged 69 on the 23d of January next; enlisted in 1776 under Capt. Charles Craig, First Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line of Col. Edward Hand; was made Sergeant by Capt. Samuel Craig; in 1778 he joined a company of artificers at York, Pa., commanded by Col. Isaac Melcher. Will-you-be Blackard's Declaration, October 8th, 1832: Aged 74 on August 12th, 1832; enlisted in 1776 under Capt. John Hogan and served in the Fourth North Carolina Regiment, Col. Henry Dixon, Major Thomas Donaho, Capt. Jacob Turner, who was killed at Germantown; Capt. William Saunders; was in the battle when Fordyce was defeated; General Lincoln was wounded at the battle of Stone; declarant was taken prisoner and exchanged and transferred to the Sixth North Carolina Regiment; Col. Henry Dixon, Col. Robert Mayben, Major Donaho, Capt. Edward Yarbrough. Richard Rains' Declaration, August 17th, 1832: Aged 76 on September 18th, 1831; enlisted in 1775 in Culpeper under Capt. Gabriel Jones; served under Capt. John Kemp who succeeded Jones, who died shortly after declarant enlisted; Col. Gibson's Regiment; Peter Stubblefield was First Lieutenant; Robert Fitzhugh, or Purtue, was Second Lieutenant; Thirteenth Virginia Regiment, Brigade of Gen. Scott; Major Hamilton was one of the officers; his discharge was signed by General Russell who commanded in place of Gen. Scott, who was absent. David Flora's Declaration, June 19th, 1819: Age 60; enlisted in Bucks County, Penna., in 1781, in the First Pennsylvania Regiment of Col. Mouser, Capt. Baker's Company; again under Col. Butler, Capt. Dunn's Company. John Sizer's Declaration, September 6th, 1832: Born in Baltimore County, Maryland, in 1759; moved in 1770 to Prince William County. In 1777 volunteered in the Company of Capt. (afterwards Major) Ewell. On his return in 1777 he moved to Rockingham County and volunteered in the Company of Capt. Daniel Harrison, and at Fredericksburg was put under the command of Capt. Adam Wallace of Rockbridge. Again enlisted in the Company of Capt. Baverley Roy, Col. Heath's Regiment, and in Charleston, South Carolina, was transferred to the Company of Capt. Parker. His Company was taken prisoner and exchanged, together with Col. Heath, Lieut.-Col. Wallace and Major Stevenson, all of Virginia, at Jamestown. Col. Parker, commanding the Half Moon Battery at Charleston, was killed. In 1781 he drove cattle to Yorktown; he was present at the surrender. Fiatt Wyson's Declaration, September 6th, 1832: Was born in York County, Pennsylvania; removed to Shepherdstown, Virginia, and was drafted in the Company of Capt. Morrow, Capt. Josiah Swearingen, Lieut. Isaac Islow; joined the Army under General McIntosh and marched to Muskingum; saw Col. Richard Campbell who was killed at Eutaw Springs; afterwards he moved to Fincastle. In 1781 he was drafted and marched under Capt. Joseph Looney, Lieutenant Tosh, Ensign William McClenachan to Yorktown and was present at the surrender. 501 John Alverman's Declaration, September 7th, 1832: Born in Culpeper in 1757; volunteered under Capt. Henry Hill of Culpeper; Col. James Taylor in command of the Albemarle Barracks. Again was drafted under Capt. Slaughter, Col. Barbour's Regiment; joined Wayne's Army. Again, in 1781, was drafted under Capt. Ambrose Bohannon. Henry Cartmill's Declaration, September 7th, 1832: Born in Chester County, Penna., in 1754; his father removed to Augusta when declarant was an infant. In 1761 he removed to James River in the present County of Botetourt. In 1779 he was commissioned Ensign of Militia; marched against the Indians under Capt. James Smith to Noly Chucky, a branch of Holstein. On the road he was joined by the Company of Capt. James Barrett from Roanoke. They found 400 men at Noly Chucky under General William Campbell. In 1780 he was commissioned Lieutenant of Militia and marched under Capt. James Smith to Yorktown. In 1779 he marched under Capt. Hugh Logan as Ensign to the relief of Fort Donnelly. On the road Capt. Hall met them and they returned. John Tate's Declaration, September 7th, 1832: Born in Augusta August 6th, 1761. In 1777 he volunteered under Capt. Pat Buckhannon and Capt. Thomas Smith on an expedition against the Tories assembled near Peaked Mountain. The leaders were captured and lodged in jail. In 1779 he marched under Capt. James Tate, Pat Buckhannon and Francis Long to the relief of Donnelly's Fort. In 1780 his father moved to Botetourt. In January, 1781, Capts. Mays, John Cartmill, Mathew Wilson, Holstein and Boller were ordered into service. Declarant volunteered in Capt. Mays' Company under Maj. Thomas Rowland; joined Gen.. Green at Allamance; battle was fought at Reedy Fork of Haw River, and next day Capt. May and all the officers and men of his Company, except declarant and thirteen others, left the battlefield and came home. On the day after the fight Capt. James Tate and Capt. Smith, from Augusta County, arrived with their Companies. In July or August he volunteered in Capt. David Mays' Company and was present at the surrender. His discharge was signed by Wallace Estill, a Lieutenant of his Company. Henry Cartmill and John Hewitt served with him. Jacob Butt's Declaration, February 13th, 1832: Age 78; entered in the Company of Capt. Thomas Bowyer, Regiment of Col. Archibald Campbell, Virginia State Line; was in the battle of Guilford Court House. John Camper's Declaration, August 14th, 1832: Born in Fauquier in 1749; was drafted in Shenandoah in 1781 under Capt. Nevill; marched to Fort McIntosh in the Regiment of Col. Richard Campbell; was again drafted under Capt. Jacob Wrinker and Gen. Stephens. Jacob Lemon's Declaration, August 14th, 1832: Age 70; enlisted in 1780 in Augusta County in Capt. John Tate's Company; served in the Southern Army in the Regiment of Col. Howard of Maryland; was at the battle of the Cowpens. In May, 1781, he was drafted in the Company of Capt. John Dickey from Augusta and marched to Williamsburg where was Col. Hugart; was in the battle of Jamestown. In 1782 he was again drafted under Col. John Moffett, of Augusta, to guard Tiger's Valley against the Indians; marched in the Company of Capt. McKitrick. John Hewit's Declaration, September 5th, 1833: Born in Augusta (now Botetourt) November 14th, 1763; volunteered September 8th, 1780, under 602 Capt. James Robinson; his and the Company of Capt. Alexander Handley marched to the Southern States under Major David Campbell; joined Gen. Morgan two days after the battle of Cowpens and took the place of the Militia of Augusta and Rockbridge, who acted so bravely and were about to be discharged; Capt. Handley and John Alien were taken prisoners, Col. Williams commanded. Again in Capt. James Smith's Company he marched from Pattonsburg and was under Major Patrick Lockhart at Yorktown and Col. Samuel Lewis, Lieut. Cartmel, Col. William Anderson, John Tate. Superior Court, Eastern District of Florida, December 10th, 1832.-- Lewis Wilford's Declaration: Age about 80; enlisted in North Carolina under Hardy Murphy, Recruiting Officer, in 1776, and served in the Second Regiment of the North Carolina Line under these officers: Captain Ben.
